I think it is pretty much guaranteed to do that- I calculate that she started with about 30K pre-orders which should be more than enough to make up for her lack of streaming.

Incidentally if "Love Me Like You Do" is big enough it could replicate Mark Ronson's run at #1 and make it a 'new 1992' that you are wishing against. :D

It's hard to know for sure as we haven't seen Ellie's streaming performance yet as they stupidly didn't let her develop early on there but since it's been held back she might find it hard to replicate UFs 8 week dominance on iTunes. Songs held back usually are unable to consistently hold up on sales compared to early release singles which if big enough sell immediately and for longer whereas held back songs build up demand through pre orders and have massive first week sales but more diminishing returns thereafter. Which is why I argue for early releases because people would rather buy a song as they hear it rather than buy a preorder which they will only be able to listen to in 2-7/8 weeks down the line.

That said it would be lovely to see Ellie sell well and be no1 for 3/4 weeks.

And since when have I ever stated preference to boybands?

I didn't claim you *had* - I was just using them as an example of artists who rarely write their own songs.

I like singers who write their own songs, I just think that the two examples I gave were successful but not particularly good in my opinion.

Fair enough.

Wisely brought forward by the record company due to high demand.

That was the original plan, but I guess her record company saw how popular it is on Buzzjack, so decided to release early...

I see Ellie's lead is now 40% over Ronson on LPB - she'll certainly need all she can get, given Ronson's high streaming.

Pretty impressive lead for Ellie already UF down to 59% already although this time next weeks %s will be more interesting to see its overall run. UF prob would be set to 'sell' around 70k this week.

1992 was brilliant year for #1's some great #1's Shakespear's Sister  Tasmin Archer, SNAP!, Shamen, Charles & Eddie.

I wouldn't mind another year like 1992, after last year, even if its just a nice round number of 16 to 20 No.1's

She will but unless her sales collapse the preorders which should be at least 30k will make that up THIS WEEK.

Indeed half of last years No1s were terrible and will be forgotten. Some got there on 60-70k sales ahead if much more consistent sellers which then dropped thereafter.

Ellie is a sure fire number 1 of course but I wonder how she is gonna do on Streaming. Is it up on Spotify?
I don't think the #1 turnover will be as slow as 1992 (I hope it doesn't get like that), but so far we're on course to have less #1s than last year which is good. Ellie Goulding will probably spend 3-4 weeks at #1 which will reflect its popularity well.

Yes and it will probably be a big streaming hit here considering it's top 10 worldwide.

Wow! Phenomenal start for Ellie!

I like the song so I'm happy for her. How many number 1 will it get her?

Really annoyed about Kodaline, I'm sure there was a single pre-order when I looked a few weeks ago! Almost everyone who wants the single will be getting it as part of the album now, probably won't even make top 75! :(
Outlines top 10 now. :cheer:

I can see it staying longer if she wins the female Brit award, at the end of the month, she could at least do 6 weeks, and with the publicity of the film throughout February. The timing of the single drop fits perfectly. :D ker-ching

Yeh that's true the film will be huge and help her sales too.

Ellie Goulding will not win best female at the Brit Awards.

She's not nominated :P
