According to Wales Online and The Daily Telegraph, Amazon have entered the bidding to obtain the 6 Nations TV Rights. Apparently, they would like a hybrid TV deal where they show all of the games, but some may go exclusively behind a paywall and others may end up being simulcast alongside a FTA broadcaster. The tender process for the deal which also includes the Autumn Internationals has reopened after being put on hold last year due to COVID-19.

Channel 4 is close to agreeing a deal for the rights to highlights of the British and Irish Lions’ tour of South Africa, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The deal would mean that Channel 4 will compile and broadcast a highlights package from each match on the tour, with Sky continuing to air the live games.

If the broadcaster is successful in gaining the rights, it will be the first time since 1993 that the Lions rugby union team has been on free-to-air TV in the UK. ITV aired the tour of New Zealand that year, with Sky Sports holding all rights to Lions tours since 1997.

The Premier League has agreed to roll over its existing television deal with broadcasters for a further three years.

The new deal with Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC Sport will run from 2022 to 2025.

The current £4.7bn deal, agreed in 2018, represented a 10% drop in value.

The Government has approved the deal "in principle" with an "exclusion order" under the competition act, which allows the league to renew without its normal tender process.

"In light of the damaging impact of the Covid-19 pandemic throughout the English football pyramid, the Premier League was able to demonstrate to Government exceptional and compelling reasons for the Exclusion Order," the league said.

Clubs had been concerned that there could be another fall in value if the usual open-market auction started as planned next month.

The value of rights for domestic leagues in Europe also appears to have peaked.

The four-year deal will run from 2022 to the end of the 2025 edition of the tournament, which has been free-to-air since 2003.

The BBC will broadcast all Scotland and Wales home Six Nations matches and the women's tournament. ITV will show all England, Ireland, Italy and France home games.

There will also be coverage of the men's under-20s championship on the BBC.

"For the millions of Six Nations fans across the UK, the championships remaining free-to-air is wonderful news," BBC director of sport Barbara Slater said.

"We look forward to delivering live action from both the men's and women's as well as the men's under-20s championships to the widest possible audience over the next four seasons."
