Thank you so much Bray! I'm glad to see our musical paths crossing once again. I'm also glad that it could be a re-discovery for you, it is the best thing when you are reminded of songs you'd forgotten about!

Fingers crossed! The Dubtrack session was promising at least! I guess those Scottish vocals will stand out big time. Though your (iconic) entry is one of the most standout of them all *.* thank u for the kind words x

~BJSC EOY - TOP 100~

30

Alex Metric & Jacques Lu Cont ft. Malin - 'Safe With You'

Aquafina | BJSC 77

It was commonplace for Aquafina and success to go hand in hand in the summer. Fresh off their win with Sigala’s ‘Easy Love’ came ANOTHER winner. This was the much stronger winner in my (minority) opinion, however. There were cries of ‘cheapness’ for what was apparently a small BuzzJack favourite a couple of years prior, but for me this was completely a discovery. It may seem a bit odd for this to be so high when I ‘only’ gave it 6 points, but it has grown on me immensely since and would challenge for double those points now. ‘Safe With You’ is just a stunner of a package. The striking visuals match up so well to the heartfelt lyrics, with paired ice skating being so intimate and requiring immense levels of trust just like the relationship being talked about. The lyrics themselves melt me inside as it paints a picture of someone so willingly committed and caring. The vocals behind them are so beautiful and sincere also. On top of this, the production also adds to the uplifting nature of it all with it building up just right. This continues to rise up in my affections with every listen.

Son Lux - 'You Don't Know Me'

Tartford | BJSC 79

Tartford have just suddenly leaped out of nowhere! I wasn’t really too fond of a lot of their entries this year (especially screechy lady Maria Hazell) but the past two contests have seen them making a big impression on me. We’ve already seen the hauntingly beautiful Cigarettes After Sex make an appearance but this was my other huge Tartford favourite this year! Indeed this seemed to be the case for others too as it is their most successful entry to date. Rightly so! Anyway, I briefly tread the waters of Son Lux with the stunningly atmospheric ‘Lost It To Trying’ that I even wanted to send myself (dammit Skall) so I had high hopes seeing this on the list. Thankfully it didn’t disappoint in the slightest! I love how eerie this is, the vocals sound like they come from such an old soul and I really like that element of it. The defiant repeating of the title coupled with a fantastic guest appearance from Tatiana Maslany going slightly insane make for a really exciting if slightly creepy finish. The production is also magnificent and further ramps up the exhilarating feel of it all. Bravo Tartford on bringing this to the competition, it stood out for miles. We awarded this 13 points, giving the nation their first medal position from us.

Kasper Bjørke ft. Sísy Ey - 'Apart'

Altyr Muunilinst | BJSC 75

Ahh, our good old honeymoon phase with Altyr. This was the period where a few of their entries were huge favourites, with Shamir already featuring and another one still to come. After listening to their potentials a couple of months in a row it became apparent to me that we shared one particular musical appreciation - synth pop. This is the exact type I love! It’s slightly dark, mysterious and heartbreaking both production-wise, lyrically and in particular vocally. The one thing that ALWAYS gets me about this song is the rawness of the elongated “please forgive me”. Indeed the rest of it feels so sincere too and that chorus is one that gets stuck in my head for days. The production alongside is beautiful too, I’ve always had a penchant for that synthy type of sound. A great retro-sounding entry from Altyr! It was originally my favourite of the contest, grabbing 12 of my semi points, but was knocked down a bit by two growers - so in the end it picked up still an impressive 13 points.

SPELLES - 'Wild Heart'

Flynnonda | BJSC 80

Producing this countdown has made us realise how much we like our fellow BJSC 74 debutants Flynnonda! They were touching distance away with Lux Lisbon, Tame Impala have already appeared and now we get to the most recent song they’ve unleashed on us. I had the pleasure of hearing this as a potential and was floored by how good it was, so naturally I was thrilled to see that they did go ahead in sending it. I was a bit worried it wouldn’t qualify with a bit of a mixed reception but it indeed did and I couldn’t have been happier for them. This is just so up my street. Let’s start with the glorious instrumentation - strings are my kryptonite and when meshed with the piano it creates such a hauntingly beautiful sound. I really love the vocalist as well, she has a really deep feel to her voice and I really appreciate the Dido-esque quirks to it in places. It sounds a bit like a lost Lana Del Rey track, which is definitely a good thing. While we thought that this may challenge for our 18 like ‘Apart’ as well, that didn’t quite happen but it still earned a brilliant 13 points from us.

Neeraj Shridhar & Tulsi Kumar - 'Love Mera Hit Hit'

Singerpurear | BJSC 74

This song is perhaps one of my favourite associations with my debut contest. I was aware of Singerpurear’s DNQ history due to being immersed in BJSC talk before I’d actually joined so I had no idea what to expect from them. However, my first impression couldn’t have been any better! The hype was soon real for this, with me and Bray in particular pleading with the masses to support this. Therefore when it ACTUALLY qualified, meaning their DNQ streak was no more, it was a complete moment and a half. I think I was actually more pleased for Singepurear getting this qualifier than my own first entry qualifying! This sums up everything we love about the nation - the fact that they just swan in owning their oddball nature and stand out from the crowd just about every month. This Bollywood banger is so infectious and such a joy to listen to. I have no idea how you’d even think of finding something like this but it’s absolutely genius. ‘Love Mera Hit Hit’ was a firm favourite in our debut as it received 13 points. However it has now surpassed 15 pointer SYKES in our affections, so a moral silver medal to you Singerpurear. It was revealed that at one point we were Singerpurear’s biggest fans of the year - indeed they still have another song to come.

25

Audrey Napoleon - 'Dope A La Mode'

Persephonia | BJSC 76

Here we have another song from our favourite country of the year, Persephonia! Just like the previous nation in this countdown, Persephonia are also very good at unleashing an eclectic flair to spice up the variety of the contest a bit. They once again brought a different dimension both sonically and visually. As you can probably guess we were obviously fans of the video. It may have been rudely taken down from YouTube but it will forever live on through good ol’ Vimeo. The vid is a bit of a mix between racy and gory, resulting in a bit of madness that very much suits the song. Of course the song itself is an absolute banger! It may be mostly comprised of instrumental but this production is just huge and can easily carry itself. The small portions of vocals are a great touch too though of course. The entire experience is so thrilling! I wish I sat on stuff as good as this or tiny deaths, the nation always have a trick up their sleeve if need be and we were very glad to see it pay off! ‘Dope A La Mode’ received 13 points as they continued to wow us.

24

Jessica 6 ft. Thodoris Triantafillou & CJ Jeff - 'Down Low'

D'yermak'er | BJSC 77

Persephonia and D’yermak’er both doing well in this countdown. Hehe. Time for D’yermak’er to shine now with their one defining entry for me this year. I had a clear top two in my head for this contest but this suddenly catapulted itself into my top three after just one listen! Indeed it was so instant and has not waned in my affections at all since. ‘Down Low’ is such a sexy song, though I guess it would be with the subject matter being rather ~naughty~. It’s the way it’s told though that really captivates me, the vocals are so sultry and mesmerising. The production is also sensational, the entire thing is just right up my street. I wish this had done better in the contest as I thought it sounded like a smash, silly BJSC listeners. A very worthwhile discovery that I still listen to all the time though. This grabbed a bronze medal from us for D’yermak’er, meaning it didn’t take us too long to point them for the first time.

23

PVRIS - 'St. Patrick'

Hushkanukia | BJSC 73

I’m not sure if Hushkanukia were expecting any more of their songs to appear here but if so then they may have thought wrong! ‘St Patrick’ was entered two contests before I joined and emerged as the winner of that contest. Nation Taahino who did not yet exist may have lost out on this win, but it was good news for Hushkanukia as it pulled them out of their DNQ streak to greatness! I absolutely adore this song but was a little shocked at the time to find out that it had won! I guess this really has been the year for rock to shine in BJSC. The lyrics are just so poignant, in particular I really like the “you give me something to think about…”/“you’re a miracle”. I read that it was about lead singer Lynn Gunn’s girlfriend lifting her out of a tough time and really liked this idea, having that special person who can instantly make you happier. Aside from the lyrics, the massive rock production really is amazing too. This is a fantastic anthem and one I would’ve pointed very highly had I participated in the competition at the time.

22

Meg Myers - 'Sorry'

Kylienips | BJSC 75

Well speaking of rock songs that won the contest, here is another one! This was another huge BJSC *moment* this year, for the fact that Kylienips had finally won after entering every contest to date and also seeing so much support for this, giving it a strong lead. ‘Sorry’ really impacted me from the word go, before the whole hype train for it suddenly emerged. This was the first I’d heard of Meg and it was an almighty first impression as I was really impressed by her vocals, the breathy way she ends sentences in particular being so effective. This really packs a punch when that EXPLOSION of a chorus hits! I love that this genre has had such recognition this year as we’ve had some real gems coming from it. We gave Kylienips a silver medal for this one whilst they gave us a gold for ONUKA, so much mutual appreciation that month.

21

Mirror Talk - '1/M/T'

Quintessa | BJSC 80

Just missing out on top 20 glory but still doing pretty damn well (and being the number of an iconic Adele album tbh) is Quintessa! They needn’t worry though as they still have one more entry that IS top 20. Like Tartford a bit earlier here is another country that has suddenly leaped in my affections in the past two contests! I thought I had my top two for this contest on lock but then all of a sudden I was listening to the final for the first time while multi-tasking and suddenly I had to know what this fantastic song was that was playing as it had commanded my attention so much! What I love about this is that it’s so gloriously 80s, the production especially! THAT CHORUS though. What an absolute moment when it comes around each time! This entry got a silver medal from us, the second in a row for Quintessa! Which is very fitting following our two gold medals from them for AK & LYNX ft. Veela and jj (recently revealed as their favourite entry of the year!).

(p.s. thanks for getting 'Virtual Paradise' through to the next round of TBO! We were also happy to see all of our remaining entries scoring at least 10 points.)

Yay for Audrey sneaking into the top 25 there! 3 of the best winners of the year there as well, as well as of course the moral winner that was 'Love Mera Hit Hit' *.*

Congrats on reaching the TBO semis with AK/LYNX/Veela  I thought both that and ONUKA had a decent shot at it but at least you didn't leave empty-handed.

Alex Metric *.* Son Lux *.* Audrey Napoleon *.* PVRIS *.* Meg Myres *.* and Mirror Talk *.* all very good love all of them.

Also love the Spelles addition

Was not expecting another song to appear :o thrilled you loved St Patrick! :cheer:

YAY! Wasn't sure if anything of mine would make it here but I forgot you liked this. Glad to hear it's right up your street, was quite a left-field entry for me so I think it attracted a fair few first time voters :heehee:

A lot of love for 'Love Mera Hit Hit' too, v desi swag n hiipe~~ (also 'Apart' and 'St. Patrick')

Neeraj Shridhar & Tulsi Kumar - 'Love Mera Hit Hit'

Singerpurear | BJSC 74

Yay Jade! I still can't thank you and Bre enough for the support on Love Mera  Very unexpected qualifier, but very happy bout it!

My secret is no secret  - in the early days I used to pick old flop faves or current dance chart acts that caught my attention, trying to make each entry a bit different from previous ones. Then I decided to go for stuff that was new to me too and started randomly youtubing using odd words to see where I ended up. It's like a long chain of "you might like these" songs for each one that looked interesting that I click on, I just keep going till I find one that makes me go "oh wow! I'm buying THAT immediately!" :cheer:

Plus I love Bollywood and various Asian music anyway, kinda grew up around it in cultural Melting Pot Singapore

You may remember a while back that I said I was going to post something special after I'd finished my EOY, but I decided that I'm just going to upload it now before the year's out! (My EOY will be finished very soon, apologies about that.) But YES anyway, I am a bit of a dork who loves creating random things - whether that be drawings or videos. So back in September I was just mucking about on iMovie with this and thought it'd be a bit of fun to create a video montage of all my entries to send Jadakissnia's first year of BJSC out in style! I hope you enjoy, it was very fun to put together! (Apols for the writing of Glasvegas' vid being different, the text I used for all the other ones would not co-operate for that)

Also in other news - thank you so much to everyone who voted for Glasvegas' 'A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss)' in the BJSC Christmas spinoff! It finished in a fantastic 5th place, giving us our third spinoff top 5 and fourth top 10! It was a shame I wasn't able to follow it live but I really do appreciate all the points! Thank you to Persephonia and Terra Avium in particular who both gave 18s.

We hope all other nations have had a fab Christmas! EOY to be continued soon...

Sonia y Selena - 'Yo Quiero Bailar'

Here we have the first Jadakissnian entry of 2016! We have somewhat taken the 'new year new me' approach by ditching our rather synthy 'vague' sound for now and entering the year with this fun Spanish banger. Sonia y Selena took this song to 9th place in the Spanish Eurovision National Final in 2001, which is rather ridiculous as it is a bop of immense proportions that obviously should have won. I had known and loved this song for years due to actually hearing this in Spain during many annual holidays there, but never had it considered for the contest. After the suggestion by two fellow nations to enter it, it suddenly felt so right to kick off the year in this way. So so so feel good - we hope you semi 2 people enjoy and vote for this!

EOY will be finished some time this century

*.* Slays me so hard.

Seriously though this is a massive bop, what's wrong with you 2001 Spanish Eurovision voters ~ Spain is actually by far my favourite country for Eurovision entries anyway, even their rejects are way better than most other countries' songs :kink:

 slay me with yo taste <3

Tell me about it ;_; I could *maybe* accept it coming 2nd or 3rd... but 9th?! what is this madness. :o Spain are indeed amazing in general Eurovision-wise *.* Perhaps should delve into more of their rejects hehe x

I'm always in favour of a Spanish Bop, the latin rhythms just make me wanna dance and it's a style that I'm comfortable giving it a go to - obviously after a couple of drinks on holiday in a video club, when I appear to myself to be dancing like a cool demon  The more drink the madder I dance. I quite fancy SIA's Cheap Thrills right now, actually, very latin :o
