'Scope' losing out to 'Gravel To Tempo' will forever be offensive. (Yay for the 3 that made it through although a bit gutted to see Sonia & Selena just missing out and FM-84 not even getting close when those are my 2 faves from you this year :'( dammit at most of Arcade Summer's fanbase not voting xx)

It is pretty damn baffling that an entry that came 39th beat out an entry that came 3rd! But I guess expect the unexpected eh. Tell me about it @ Sonia & Selena, that was probably the most confident I was feeling about one of my low top 10 entries 'cause of it being pop. Sooo close </3 And ikr at 'Arcade Summer' :'( just 2/5 of the people that gave it an 18 voting! Cannot really sniff at 3 qualifiers anyway <3 Pleased we both have something to represent us in the semis! x

We are first-time TBO finalists!

Last night it was announced that we have a song reaching the TBO final for the first time! 'WVFFLIFE (CHVRN Remix)' by BLVCK CEILING was the song to do it for us. It came 6th in its original contest so we had our doubts but it triumphed in the end! It shall now battle it out with 29 other songs that have been deemed the best finalists of the year.

Our best result of the year came from HAELOS with 'Earth Not Above' in BJSC 90, positioning 2nd. But it didn't quite advance to the TBO final, coming in a heartbreakingly close 16th place! Our other semi-finalist 'Toccata' by OVERWERK was a far way off, placing in 29th.

Thanks to all who voted for us! <3 Please continue to support this wondrous witchy song in the final.

New format this year so that I don't burn out too quickly like last year  This was excruciatingly hard to order and there are lots of faves that have missed out due to having way more than 100 faves. Boo. This was so much easier to order last year when I had only entered 7/10 of the contests! Anyway, without further ado...

100. SKIES - 'Drone' (Ultraviolenceland)
99. K3 - '10.000 Luchtballonnen' (Yehesi)
98. Sofi de la Torre - 'Colorblind Cruisin' (New Lexico)
97. Ital Tek - 'Cobra' (FKA FKA FKA π)
96. Thomas Bergerson - 'Children Of The Sun (feat. Merethe Soltvedt)' (Avalonia)
95. Ana Mena - 'No Soy Como Tú Crees' (Ultraviolenceland)
94. Ariel Pink - 'Not Enough Violence' (FKA FKA FKA π)
93. Vesala - 'Tequila' (Pupok)
92. TheFatRat - 'Monody (feat. Laura Brehm)' (South Danaelanda)
91. Atella x Frøder - 'Closer To Life' (Altyr Muunilinst)

We start off the countdown with Ultraviolenceland! I did not vote for 'Drone' at the time of its contest but it soon grew on me immediately after the contest. Annoying, but at least it just about scraped into my favourites of the year! It was something a bit different for Ultraviolenceland and ultimately the elongated vocals of the chorus sealed the deal for me. Next up, K3 was another one that I did not vote for at the time of its contest! It kinda went over my head and I didn't get the poppy mass appeal of it during BJSC 83. But its euphoric charm wormed its way into my brain soon enough and now it has cemented itself as a BJSC guilty pleasure! Yehesi's allies Pupok also make it into this section with a song that was ultimately a grower as well. The haunting Finnish pop song 'Tequila' hit me in the end and now I can't believe I didn't vote for it at the time. A lot of Pupok's more 'serious' offerings are so on point.

Well, it didn't take very long for some Spanish impact! Ultraviolenceland have a second appearance already with the utterly joyous 'No Soy Como Tú Crees' by Ana Mena! She has been dubbed as the 'Spanish Meghan Trainor' and I see why with the doo-wop production. I seem to not be able to resist Español most of the time, and even the English part is really charming. Next, while 'Colorblind Cruisin' courtesy of New Lexico is in English, Sofi de la Torre originates from Spain as well (if you hadn't already guessed by that name *.*). This song is just awesome in English though, the quick-fire delivery of the chorus really works and the lyrics are pretty fun.

FKA FKA FKA π were a country who really brought it this year! They have a double appearance here and still have multiple appearances to come. Firstly, we have 'Cobra' which was a really interesting song - not your average instrumental whatsoever. I feel like I have been way more into instrumentals this year so this went down a treat and stood out massively. The nation also got the opportunity of an AQ this year and delivered on it just perfectly. They went with the pretty out-there and incredible 'Not Enough Violence'! A barmy but brilliant journey of a song. This was a smart selection for an AQ as it seems like the kind of thing that would have usually DNQed.

Avalonia got their biggest hit to date with 'Children Of The Sun', an absolutely epic direction in sound for them. South Danaelanda also scored a big hit off the bat this year with the addictive 'Monody'! It's full of energy but then gorgeously grinds to a halt to deliver those stunning vocals. I gave this just a couple of points at the time but it would be way more now. Rounding off this section is Altyr Muunilinst! Last year I stanned a few of their entries quite hard so it was a bit worrying that I was not voting for anything they were sending this year. Had they lost their magic touch with me? Well, thankfully not quite as they received Jadakissnian points at the very last opportunity this year! 'Closer To Life' is so entrancing in its delicacy and is continuing to grow on me further even now!

Keeping an eye on how many of these are also in my top 100 :D I think I matched like 52 with Chez lmao, can we beat that ~

(shall enjoy following this and reading more paragraphs yay xx I'm sure you shall actually finish it this time x)

Haha! Well we have been pretty n sync with a lot of our voting this year :o So I can easily see a lotttt of overlap. C'mon at least 53 ;)

(thank you!! <3 super hyped for yours to start as well *.* lmao yes, this format does seem far more manageable so hopefully no flopping with it this year haha x)

4 of those made my 100 and ariel pink and k9 were just outside, so a good bit of overlap already

90. Pixel Fix - 'You Settle Me' (Cor Lupus)
89. Celtic Woman - 'Tír na nÓg (feat. Oonagh)' (New Lexico)
88. MY - 'White Water' (Ramrynia)
87. Catey Shaw - 'The Ransom (Tommy Walker Remix)' (The Actual Republic of Bellamia)
86. Cobi - 'Don't You Cry For Me' (Mulgracia)
85. Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - 'Dance The Way I Feel' (Medhelnia)
84. Color Guard - 'In Your Bones' (Persephonia)
83. Morgxn - 'Love You With The Lights On (Monsieur Adi Remix)' (FARC)
82. Claudia Kane - 'Einstein' (Pupok)
81. Monarchy - 'Dance Like Hell' (Mulgracia)

This section begins with the first appearance from our fellow BJSC 74 debutant friends Cor Lupus! They got their first win in 2016 with The Naked And Famous' 'Higher', but it was their more underrated songs this year that we were drawn to. 'You Settle Me' unfortunately DNQed and then JUST missed out on justice in Rejects to further rub salt into the wound. Shame on you all because the production and chorus are divine. Next up after that, we have the second and final appearance from New Lexico! Unlike Cor Lupus, it was the big hitters from this nation that tickled our fancy. 'Tír na nÓg' was a big foreign pop standout moment in the contest much like K3 was a couple of editions earlier. The unique celtic fun (and added strings!!) just sold it to me from first listen and it's a proper earworm. Simply magical, it's like being in a fantasy land for a few minutes.

I didn't quite get the appeal of most Ramrynia entries this year (though I'm hardly their target audience) BUT 'White Water' was the big anomaly of the bunch! As 89 was the Jadaphonia contest, all entries had the advantage of being spammed loads by me while I was making the recaps. And the recap segment for this was so damn good and really highlighted that powerful chorus! The vocals are stellar and said HUGE chorus forces you to command all attention towards it. Also in this section, we have The Actual Republic of Bellamia's best entry this year from that very same contest! The Tommy Walker Remix heightens the original of 'The Ransom' SO much - that drop really makes it for me and brings it to life. This deserved to do way better than it did in the contest!

'Don't You Cry For Me' is the first of two Mulgracia entries in this section, coming in at 86. An enormous round of applause to the nation who have shed their 'generidance' tag and have entered some pretty interesting stuff in 2016. The Cobi song is like a mix of Hozier and Mulgracia's former winner Rationale - with the combination of deep, rich vocals and thought-provoking subject matter. The video for this was quite the shocker the first time I viewed it! But in a good way as it's extremely powerful and really heightened the song. Their other song here is 'Dance Like Hell' at 81! I originally listened to it months before it was sent as a potential (when that was allowed!) and loved it immediately, so I was extremely pleased when they finally did unleash it. The song is so addictive with its loopy chorus and high-energy production! Another James entry that is not too dissimilar in sound to another act ~ this time Hot Chip. Also, FARC have landed in this section with a bit of a pastiche too! This time that of Years & Years. The vocals of 'Love You With The Lights On (Monsieur Adi Remix)' are very similar to those of Olly Alexander, and the general mid-tempo vibe of the song sounds like something they could release too. But this is obviously no bad thing as the song is just fabulous! I've listened to a couple of other remixes of it on Spotify and this was definitely the best of the bunch, so bravo on that choice FARC.

Next up we have no stranger to our votes, Persephonia! It may come as a surprise that this isn't their only entry in the countdown :kink: 'In Your Bones' has a pretty anthemic chorus and the production is just lush. It should have cracked the top 10, especially when the Parade Of Lights song that edition was not too dissimilar in formula. Perhaps it was a bit overshadowed by that. But nevertheless it's a great, easily accessible little song with a singalong chorus and pretty cool video alongside. Persephonian former potential/18 pointer 'Dance The Way I Feel' finishes right next to them in this section. Medhelnia were so close to the win with this song, but instead were beaten by Crystal Waters. So apparently a formula for success these days is turning back time and looking in the archives. I knew of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool due to the unfortunate circumstances that resulted in the demise of the group, but I had never sought out any of their songs before. So a big gracias to Medhelnia for bringing the wonderful synths and chanty chorus into my life.

I was pretty hyped for 'Einstein' based on the fact that it was described as like 'a gothic Lana Del Rey song'. Thankfully, it completely delivered on that hype and was one of Pupok's best entries of the year! The song is really quite mesmerising as Claudia has a standout voice that really makes you pay attention to all the words she enunciates in a haunting fashion. The scientific references in the song (Einstein/frequency/black hole etc.) really helped it to stand out too. The production is also top notch and it's a total highlight of the song when it switches up a bit towards the end!

Still so bitter, not making it to the rejects semis is like people saying I deserved to DNQ

"The Ransom" seems to be more of a hit towards me than anyone, judging by how many points I gave it. It gave me AlunaGeorge's current era vibes.

Gah you were SO CLOSE and everything :( Though hey, at least 'Stockholm' made it! I expected it to be the other way round so that was a nice surprise at least <3

Glad to see another big fan of 'The Ransom' in you! Severely underrated when I also thought it was going to be a hit. </3

I feel like you might actually like 'In Your Bones' more than I do myself now tbh :kink: Not sure I'd have ranked it as high as #84 among my own EOY lmao. I think you're right about it being overshadowed by 'Feeling Electric'. Hoorayy for my first appearance anyway! x Much love for Pixel Fix and OELSP in particular from this section
