March 24, 201510 yr If they're gonna move it to Friday's, at least broadcast it during Scott's show from 1-4 That would make even less sense since even the kids won't be around? #retarded
March 24, 201510 yr 1-4 would be a ridiculous time for the chart, especially on a weekday  4-6 is just fine really.
March 24, 201510 yr They really aren't trying to hide the fact that they want 15 year olds listening and no one else by giving it that time slot. Even though I kind of like the idea, this is what I thought when they said the Top 10 would air on CBBC. Also, similar to why Mr Aly said, since Radio 1 can now choose what they play on the chart show, it means they can avoid playing older artists who may enter in the lower regions of the Top 40 - I can't imagine they'd have played Madonna's 'Living for Love' for instance if this new idea had already been put into practice. I do agree that all new entries should be played, as well as any other current tracks. The good thing about a condensed chart is that it does mean songs spending months on end in the chart probably won't get played. Also, I do agree that it would be interesting if new releases had 2 days of sales before climbing in the second. Only problem is that some tracks could miss out on achieving higher peaks - as seen with many Friday releases in recent times. True, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but it is always annoying for the fans.
March 24, 201510 yr If they're gonna move it to Friday's, at least broadcast it during Scott's show from 1-4 that would be a really silly move considering a lot of the chart show's target audience is at school/uni/work during that time. 4 - 5:45 is the best we're going to get (don't forget it won't actually be a 2 hour show because of Newsbeat) whilst keeping the show on the day the chart is most relevant
March 24, 201510 yr 1-4 would be a ridiculous time for the chart, especially on a weekday  4-6 is just fine really. Definitely. I don't think it particularly matters that some kids won't get home right in time because they're sure to not miss the Top 10 and the #1 as no-one's at 6pm unless through choice!
March 24, 201510 yr Oh no, this is really bad for me, I usually get out of high school either at 3:05pm or 4pm, and the bus ride takes 25 to 35 minutes. I'll probably never be able to listen to the chart in full.
March 24, 201510 yr If they're gonna move it to Friday's, at least broadcast it during Scott's show from 1-4 I don't think they can because the countdown might not be ready till after 3pm. Final data would come in after midnight Thursday, then it has to be sorted and checked. Data errors missing data form shops and download sites all need to be sorted out. Streaming data, plus adjustments of various types, means that it's not possible. Radio One would also need time to "produce" the show. Times of records, what to play, phone calls to artists and the rest of the show needs to be sorted out. They simply don't make up the show as they go along. If it could have been broadcast earlier in the day then I think it would have been, by now. I do think they could have broadcast it Saturday between 9am and 12pm, though. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the chart show is moved from Friday back to Sunday, or even to Saturday, as I suggest, because I'm certain it will flop at that time and be wiped out by Hit 40 UK.
March 24, 201510 yr Maybe they could do a repeat of the show on their site or something... Because not everyone is going to be able to listen to the chart show a time, we all have our priorities -_-

(although that doesn't help when you want to listen to it live and you're not available at the time)
March 24, 201510 yr I might get used to the idea of a chart show on Fridays, it just feels normal practice to listen to the chart show on a Sunday, and its been a traditional Sunday experience, but at its current time, it is a bit of a problem, dance anthems in the past was on Sundays after 7pm after the chart show with Dave Pearce, shifting it to 6 to 8 is hardly a big deal.

Dance Anthems only goes on for one hour :P It is then followed by Annie Mac at 7pm Although I don't get why the Saturday 4 - 7 Dance Anthems slot isn't enough, a 2 hour chart show could potentially be better if R1 cut out the deadwood
March 24, 201510 yr Seeing as the show is 4-6 and they won't have time to play all the songs, at least skip the songs which have been around for ages ie. "Stay With Me", "Thinking Out Loud", "Chandelier"
March 24, 201510 yr Have they also forgotten about the video chart? In the summer, home video releases will still be Monday's which means that films which chart in the video chart will have 4 days of sales (Mon-Thurs) instead of 6 (Mon-Sat)
March 24, 201510 yr Dance Anthems only goes on for one hour :P It is then followed by Annie Mac at 7pm I don't normally listen to Radio 1 on a Friday evening anyhow, so I'm not really bothered. I also have to get my head round to some minor changes, like the Friday Chart Predictions thread topic  And the Sales thread going up on a Friday evening, talk about out of whack

March 24, 201510 yr I'm a bit more concerned that by trimming it down to 2 hours it'll give them an excuse to not play some of the newer/fresher stuff in the chart that they've banished from their playlist and keep playing the overplayed/stale stuff (ala All Of Me/Stay With Me) as they believe that's what their captive audience will want to hear. That could just be the cynic in me though, but it wouldn't surprise me. I think it's quite the opposite actually. They know the 3 hour show is boring precisely of these stale songs, that's part of the reason they've cut it to 2. This is exactly what I expect them to do, sadly. I don't see why they can't use Greg's entire slot from 4 - 7, to get the entire chart in? Because Dance Anthems is very popular - people like to listen to dance music when the working week ends. I say this is a good move for Greg James to do the chart show now it makes sense why they let him sit in for Clara when she was ill to see if he could do it and he did it well. I am so happy for him. Does anyone know what they will do with the old slot? One of the articles says CBBC are going to be involved with a replacement for Sunday afternoon. Which is a bit odd, unless this is all part of CBBC trying to reach out to mid-teens.
March 24, 201510 yr (although that doesn't help when you want to listen to it live and you're not available at the time) Yeah that was really the point :(
March 24, 201510 yr I think the CBBC link is really good actually, it's getting young people involved in the chart! Shocked there's been so much negativity towards it.
March 24, 201510 yr Saying the timeslot is stupid "because everyone is at work" is kinda silly when you consider Greg's show currently gets 4x the number of listeners as the Sunday chart show. And remember they are supposed to target young people who are less likely to do a 9-5 anyway. And even those who do can tune in at 5 and catch the last hour. If you finish at 6, catch up on iPlayer. Yeah they could put it on a Saturday, but then what about people with Saturday jobs... or just better things to do than spending 3 hours listening to the same songs every week? I think they've got the timeslot spot on.

They did it well last time, and someone who was involved in CD:UK is working on the show. Edited March 24, 201510 yr by AcerBen
