Well, after MishCatt did pretty well last contest, the pressure is on to actually keep that momentum instead of squandering it like we have ever contest since the last time we got back to back hits. What we ended up sending was… pretty unexpected. HARD FEELINGS’ last entry went over our heads, but this retro inspired bop took the country by the reigns and has now been selected for the contest. It’s less safe than what we had prepared; was it worth it?

Aaaaand it ended up not being worth it. I completely misjudged the situation here; managed to qualify but barely, and this crashed and burned while three of my potentials went on to be sizable hits, two of them doing much better than any entry I've sent the past year! :drama: Kinda makes me regret this entry ngl, but glad to say I made the leap nonetheless, even if bruised and battered.

Back to something safe for a comeback next edition I guess :(

Meanwhile WorldVision ended up being a stronger result! Ended up with an entire EP to choose from and went with my... second fave (the ultimate fave I'm saving for the big contest soon). To be honest, the last two WorldVision entries were a tough act to follow up and I wasn't sure I did Israel right with them having such a huge EDM hub but glad to see this do so well (even if it was only a top 5 by technicality)!

Time for Cor Lupus to once again answer the old adage of “do they have any longevity? or are they stuck making comebacks and then fading into obscurity?” The last few results seem to suggest the latter, but hopefully this song manages to break that. The French language is already a bad sign considering how well that went last time, but can the production and vibes similar to a Sofi Tukker track bring some hope up? We’ll see where the chips fall.

This time three years ago getting a medal position in a spin-off seemed like a pipe dream and never did I think I’d get that in a Masquerade edition, but yet here we are. Thanks so much for supporting this track the way you did (and the way Canada never did dddddd) and here’s to that success coming to the main contest soon!

Fake us was represented by Taahino, who went with our Pride spin-off artist, top 40 artist Rina Sawayama, with her single “Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)”, an unexpected turn of events but gladly they NAILED IT and came top 5!

another ok result, mid-20's are the place of "I guess they qualified but you're gonna forget about them three days after results" but we also got beat by a potential we passed up on AGAIN, this is the 4th contest in a row where we've passed up on a megasmash and we're gonna end up regretting this entry too :(

Next contest will probably involve a national final, internal selection has been so out of touch with decisions so might as well just leave it to the public *shrugs*

Love In Space is a decent song that resembles synthwave if not one. I'm not sure if it's strong enough to qualify. Supernova ticks all the boxes I think as a strong memorable entry for the pop bloc so if you don't want to pass up on a banger, then this is the one. I love Drag Me Out's energy here. It's surely not as iconic as the terribly robbed Crazy so I'm not sure about the chances of this one though. It's still something I want to give points to. sad disco is surprisingly a lot more pop than I expected coming from mxmtoon. I found this quite bland so that might be a good entry for the pop bloc song that I think is probably going to qualify but not do very well in the final. Thinking About You is not something we see in BJSC often, or at least not from what I recall. This sounds fresh and the instrumentation sounds quite sophisticated. The main problem for me is the lack of an impactful chorus, which I think may get lost in the semi but I think this should still qualify.

Shifting back into a more dance territory this time with Masquerade potential IRAIDA with her latest track, “Supernova”. Definitely continuing with this space concept for now with Obi-Wan and Lightyear coming soon to streaming and theaters respectively. Should be another fun ride this round.

Aight, now's as good of a time as ever to go back to foreign language pop :P It feels wrong but also looked so right.

Getting an AQ has led us to consider sending another non-English song, and this time we've opted to return to Finland! Many may remember BESS from her UMK stint this year with the outstanding "Ram Pam Pam", and this track is a slight continuation of that. Same sound, same grit, same amount of melodrama. Can Scandipop give us another huge smash?

Yeah... this was an absolute disaster. Honestly I don't think I'm gonna be sending any more non-English entries for a while. Doesn't seem like y'all want this anyway. It was nice to try something that wasn't the usual Cor Lupus fare but that ship has sailed for sure.

Next contest: Indie pop seems to be my main potential for now, but I also have a couple EDM-centric ones. Not that I expect them to be hits anyway.
