Welcome to Tony's Top 50 Tracks of the decayed.

Over the next while I shall be running down my favourite 40 tracks from the years 2010 to 2014.

Stuff from this year has been avoided as it hasn't had time to mature in my tastes yet.

As always predictions are welcome.

Questions to get social media in a tizzy about the upcoming chart.

How many Marina songs will make the chart?

Will old favourites Tori Amos and Manic Street Preachers appear?

Will he actually commit the social suicide of having Black Eyed Peas - Rock that Body in the chart?

Any million sellers in the list?

Will anyone even comment?

I will supply more details relating to years/genre/official number 1s/etc over the weekend.

Till then, my children - as you were.

No need to comment if you don't feel like it, Sword of Justice :)

From the picture I can recognise only 2 singers + Is it Pet Shop Boys under word "The" ?

At last there is Marina for me, most possible even with my second favourite song from her.

My top 3 :

1. Bubblegum Bitch

2. ??? (believe in top 40)

3. Seventeen

I try to comment, but it will be very hard, based on my zero knowledge of current mainstream (and especially indie) music.

It's not the Pet Shop Boys. :(

I did in 2007. I haven't heard much since Don't Tell Me That It's Over.

I spot James Blake and Crystal Castles. Yay!

I expect a high entry for “Starships” and apart from that song quite a crossover as we have quite similar tastes in music. For reference my Top 100 (which I counted down in September/October 2013) is here - I probably won't do another one until December 2019 tho. :P

Excited!

Interested to see Nicki in your banner, whether that's just a trick to get people to pay attention or not, as I wouldn't expect her here. I'll try and keep an eye on this!

Didn't heard "Froot". Is it a good album in compare with "Family Jewels" and "Electra Heart" ?

My opinion is that it is not quite as good as The Family Jewels but much better than Electra Heart.

Just had a look through your list Doctor, and while we have many artists in common, I've gone for different tracks. Plus, you reminded me of one that I had no considered so I have to re-jig my list now :(

Ooh, which track did you overlook?

About 10 artists in my chart appear in yours, Doctor. As I said, I have some re-jigging to do.

Radiohead - Codex

2011

In their tradition of releasing poignant ballads based mostly on piano and Thom Yourke's wounded choirboy vocals (see also Pyramid Song, Sail to the Moon) - Codex was easily the stand out track on King of Limbs for me. And better than anything on In Rainbows (an unpopular opinion).

This would make you want to slit your wrists in the most beautiful way possible.

An album full of these, please.

Regina Spektor - All the Rowboats

2012

I've never been a fan of Regina's - despite all the right ingredients being used. This didn't change much when I heard All the Rowboats but it at last gave me a song that I could like.

The gothic drama and insistent piano playing and nimble flourishes are straight from early 90s Tori territory - also known as the best possible sound for a piano player to have.

Ballad of a Politician is also good from the album.

Crystal Castles ft. Robert Smith - Not In Love

2010

So glad they chose Robert Smith to the vocals here. It makes the song much more accessible. The fact that the original by Platinum Blonde could easily have been vintage The Cure makes it possibly an obvious choice. It's such a great tune in an indie club.

Not the last of CC in his chart.

Sia feat. The Weeknd & Diplo - Elastic Heart

2013

It needs to be noted that the version with The Weeknd is an appreciably better rendition. He does amazing things with his voice, and with a song from Sia at the top of her game he has solid gold to work with.

I can't really cope with a whole album of Sia but she writes distinctively unusual songs. Long me she continue.
