Alphabeat's big chart hit 'Fascination' is quite overrated but 'The Spell' is better. It starts the top 50 off. Also we lose 3 FSR Rontvian entries here, leaving just 2 in the top 40. These include the brilliant 'All My Life' which won the first contest I entered. Also the winner of the first contest ever :jameela: appears here, just outside the top 40 for 'And Then We Kiss', which is an inspired entry by Britney Spears' standards.

 

Also 2NE1 land here with the song that stopped me having an entry in this thing, which I would be annoyed about except 'I Am The Best' is a seriously good song.

Sadness Is a Blessing deserved higher!

The beautiful 'Colours' starts off the top 40 followed by another beautiful song, although more upbeat, yes Persephonia's actual winner falls out before his Rejects winner, but where will Angel Haze finish?

 

Some chart hits drop out here alongside Icelandic band Sigur Ros and the last of the BJ Fest songs.

39th is higher than I expected for 'Cry For Freedom'! Happy enough with that as I did see a few people being silly spoons hating on it as I mentioned earlier ~ I am amazed at Angel Haze beating it though?! Haha. Not complaining at having a top 30 though.

 

Surprised but pleased to see Sigur Rós this high too <3

Colours is one of the worst winners since I've been competing.

The amazing A. G. Cook 'Beautiful' finishes in 27th, too low really but at least it didn't completely flop here. It is joined by Rejects winners 'Adorn' and 'New York'. The former is a sick urban jam which somehow didn't qualify first time around and the latter a swag anthem. Both deserving of top 40 places anyway.

 

Agnes Obel 'Riverside' somehow gets as high as #23 despite being really boring and forgettable but we have dance anthems 'I Loved You', 'Meet Me In A House Of Love' and the already mentioned 'Beautiful' to make up for it. Also the iconic 'Shark In The Water' which was a minor chart smash

I'm really really surprised Colours got that high. I was always under the impression it was regarded as one of our weakest winners, and it is pretty basic for one of them.

 

Chucking out all the FSR Rontvia winners bar RAMelia this early is a bit off too, the Sheelahs admittedly haven't aged well but I was really hoping/expecting Beautiful Small Machines to at least be challenging RAMelia for the best one.

 

And Riverside is an utter beauty, shade off Dan :angry: Admittedly those dance jams you mentioned after it are actually all rather great so I'll let you off the second part of that sentence.

 

Actually wait, Derniere Danse out already? :o I had that down as a winning contender. :( 3

'Riverside' is excellent, it doesn't really sound like a BJSC winner at all though!

FSR Rontvia make the top 20 then, and with their best winning entry too, 'RAMelia' is just amazingly emotional, their current trance entry just doesn't do it like this one. Some more great winners drop out too, including 2 Aeroche entries which means they have none in the top 10. Also the complete banger that is 'Look Up (Original Mix)' which was looking likely to go top 5 until some people ruined its score. Also 'Youth' shockingly doesn't go top 10 despite being really popular.

Starting the top 10 is FARC, the song was their comeback after many years, and it gave the country their first win. 'Artifice' is really good anyway but I didn't think it was one of the favourites. Trifoski are one place ahead with the clearly more popular of their winners (and the better of them imo) 'Given The Chance' which led a seriously good top 7 in its contest (linked below) so of course it was going to do well here.

Back when very cheap songs could get sent to BJSC 'Hollywood' won the contest. Ke$ha and Lady Gaga finished top 10 in the same contest, yeah thankfully we have a good veto system now. Nonetheless it is a good song, not the best from Marina for me though. Then one of the most iconic dance songs of all time which easily won the 90s Dance spin off and now finishes in the top 10 here on the basis of being near-impossible to hate really

How did it finish so high? :( I thought we'd have chucked it out long before now.

 

The other 3 winners that are top 10 so far are pretty brilliant though.

The highest charting non-main contest winner finishes at #6. Poor Kylienips have never won a main contest but 'Love, etc.' did win the rejects contest (how it never even qualified I don't know). A great song anyway and arguably the last big song they did before sliding into irrelevance (although looking at its chart run, it wasn't actually as big as I thought).

 

Agnes starts the top 5 with the amazing 'Release Me' which was always a strong contender to win as just about everyone seems to love this.
