Quite a few polls out this weekend, all pretty much saying the same thing - dead heat between Conservative and Labour:

 

YouGov (9/10 Apr) CON 40%(-2), LAB 40%(-1), LDEM 9%(+2).

Opinium (10 Apr) CON 40%(-2), LAB 40%(nc), LDEM 7%(+1)

ComRes CON 40%, LAB 41%, LDEM 7%

Survation CON 40%(+2), LAB 40%(-5), LDEM 9%(nc)

 

Note Survation is the one that got closest to the actual result at the 2017 GE and usually gives Labour a large lead (and therefore is pasted over social media everywhere), so it is interesting that this poll is now more or less showing figures of 40/40.

You do realise that, no matter who commissions a poll, they can't tell they responders who to choose?

Yes. They are useless for predicting. But that is not what the establishment care about. They want us to think there is no chance. that the Tories are.more popular than they are, for a bandwagon effect, to demoralise, and make the party of the landed gentry SEEM more legitimate for people to vote for it

Thank you for confirming the last sentence of my previous post.

 

For all, the Tories faults, most of them do not conform to the mental image you have of them. People vote for the Tories because they believe their own financial interests will be best protected by them. Obviously that's not true for everyone, but it is true for enough people to get them elected more often than not.

In fairness if you look through political history any progressive changes through the last 3 centuries have always been by progressive parties of the left during that time. The tories are simply chameleons.

I would describe the Liberals of the 19th & early 20th C 'Progressive' only in relative terms - it took the rise of the Labour party to really light a fire under them.
