Yeah I'd quite like Australia in again just as long as they were treated like a normal country and no more "Good evening Europe AND GOOD MORNING AUSTRALIA". :heehee:

I think Australia would be trusted to come up with strong entries so that'd be why I'd be very happy to keep them - the more countries the better, although introducing China as rumoured would probably be a step too far as they don't have the same Eurovision history as Australia have.

I am strongly in favour of Australia staying and would have no issue with them going through the semi process but

"Good evening Europe AND GOOD MORNING AUSTRALIA". :heehee:

This must stay!!!

(otherwise they're being excluded )

The reason I'd exclude China but include Australia is because empire. Australia is utterly rammed with expats from Europe because of the white Australia policy, the £10 Poms and all the prisoners we exported there. So they have developed as an European country, just not a geographically European country (which Isreal and Cyprus aren't)

SVT are also considering moving the start time to 20:00 CET (7pm UK time).

Would make sense in the case it won't be finishing at midnight however could mean less viewers for the BBC as it would be a total clash with BGT.

Interesting...they overran so much last time that it was near 1am in Sweden by the time it finished. Surprised the BBC plus the French, German and Spanish broadcasters don't muscle in and try and stop them doing this.

Sweden really do NEED to introduce something new each time they host, don't they?

Either way, I think it's great! The majority of Europe is +1 and +2 hours from the UK (the eastern parts of Russia and Azerbaijan excluded, of course) so after 60 years we will finally stop serving the oh-so-important Britain's needs.

With the new chart dates too, Eurovision songs will have maximum impact, rather than racking up 2,000 sales on Saturday night which lead to a No.184 debut, these sales will now help them to get maximum impact on the debut week.

Shame streaming will pretty much ensure no Eurovision song ever goes top ten in the UK again though, oh well...

You say that but Mans did decently on streaming! The songs get promotion on a huge Saturday night programme so it's not at a complete loss for streaming I wouldn't have thought. Besides, anything really popular like we've had with Euphoria and kind of Calm After The Storm might sell enough in the current climate to cancel out the need for massive streaming.

Steaming really didn't kill all that much this year like we expected although it is obviously rapidly growing.

Yeah I've been thinking for a few years now that it would make sense for Europe as a whole to start the show an hour earlier as it isn't fair on Eastern Europe to have the show finishing in the early hours of the morning, but I can imagine all of the Big 5 (except Germany perhaps) will try and block it. Especially Spain whose TV prime-time apparently doesn't being until 10pm!

It's something I'd like to see but I'm not sure SVT will get it past the Big 5. :(

Apparently SVT are hosting on a budget similar to Malmo too, but I presume this doesn't include the $50 million renovation of Globen that I feel like I read about somewhere that was already planned but now brought forward to be finished before Eurovision.

I don't get why they would still prefer the show to start at 9PM rather than 8PM though.

I would love it if the show actually started at 9PM here next year :(

so glad i live in a European part of Russia tho. It's hard out here for a (siberian eurovision fan) bitch :(

I hope they get rid of the canned crowd noise during the live shows, it was so irritating and sounded so fake.
maybe like still keep it for russian performances to drown the sound of boos but yeah~

Bosnia & Herzegovina have preliminarily applied again before today's preliminary deadline, but I expect they will have pulled out by the official deadline next month.
And Bulgaria too. Though I'm not hopeful. But even if they both disappoint us again it looks like a good year for turnout.
Indeed, presuming the worst then at the very least we should be past the 40 countries mark (Australia out, Ukraine and Turkey in takes us to 41 assuming no further changes). Plus I gather the general mood of SVT has been to try and make the whole thing cheaper so hopefully that'll bring some of the less well off countries like Bosnia and Bulgaria back.
I have sorted out accommodation and flights for Sweden, here is hoping I can get tickets for the final.

Montenegro's participation is uncertain as they are appealing their jury vote disqualification with a verdict coming in the next few days. I guess that means they have at least applied preliminarily, so hopefully they don't pull out!

Oh and I feel pretty certain we won't end up seeing Turkey entering, it's all gone very quiet from them whereas we have Ukraine making announcements all over the place.

So we could end up with 40 with a straight swap of Ukraine for Australia. I worry about this Montenegro issue, but I don't think any other 2014 participants are going to leave us at this stage. So we should have 39 at the very least!

Now now Ryan, lets not get started on the the 2016 'Ryan says things that end up being proven wrong and look silly on reading back' before 2015 is even 3 quarters full.
