I consider all these answers correct.

Shirley Bassey

Eartha Kitt

Debbie Harry

Diana Ross

Etta James

This question was inspired by watching Shirley Bassey, who song recently on TV in an audience with Shirley Bassey at the age of 69.

Shirlay Bassey correct :D

Tina Turner also correct :D

Winifred Atwell (b1914), last hit 1959 unless you know otherwise

Gracie Fields (b1898) charted in 1959 with Little Donkey  so that counts!

Vera Lynn (b1917) was only 40 when she had her latest hit.

Are we counting those females who were sampled on dance singles (but uncredited) e.g.:

Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane, who was sampled on Boogie Pimps - Somebody To Love at the age of 64.

Rosemary Clooney - sampled on Shaft's 2 hits; turned 72 whilst Mambo Italiano was in the charts.

You've also missed the greatest British female singer of all time - the late great Dusty Springfield.

She was born Mary O'Brien in 1939 and had two hit singles from her last studio album A Very Fine Love in 1995.

I was also going to mention "our Cilla" (Black) but she was 50 when she last had a chart hit.

You've got my brain working now.........

Petula Clark (born 15 Nov 1932) her last hit was Downtown88 at the age of 56!

I'm sure there is more....

I've been on Wikipedia - I can confirm a few more

Nina Simone (born 21 Feb 1933) last UK hit - Feeling Good (July 1994).

Two artists who have duet-ted with Celine Dion:

Barbra Streisand (born 24 Apr 1942) - had a big hit with the Celine duet Tell Him in 1997 - last hit in October 1999.

Carole King (born 09 Feb 1942) - duet-ted with Celine Dion on The Reason (Dec 1997).

You also have Carly Simon (born 25 Jun 1945) featured on the Janet Jackson hit Son Of A Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You) in Dec 01.

.....And the Queen Of Soul - Aretha Franklin (born 25 Mar 1942) last hit single in 1998.

"Now then, now then, that's lots of bonus points to me, Rattle Rattle, Jewelry Jewelry" (puts cigar in mouth before running a marathon!!!)

Not counting uncredited artists as I'd have no way of checking them.
