That was Valentine's Day. Probably the most iconic Halloween episode was in 2002 where the Slater house exploded and Trevor and Tom died.

 

Tonight's episode didn't really need to be an hour-long. All the jump scares etc. were pointless and Gavin's reveal as Sharon's dad didn't really impact considering we've known for ages, although they did try at least with "hello, princess". It really shows that dragging storylines too long results in anti-climaxes - it was guessed that Kathy would return in the lives, we knew about Les' cross-dressing, we knew Max would get the blame for Lucy's murder and a whole bunch of other stuff I've forgotten because the intended impact didn't happen. Still, the aftermath should be decent.
