Labour MP Naz Shah has been suspended from the Labour Party on suspicion of not liking the Jews very much. She is the current MP for Bradford West, whose previous representative, George Galloway, declared Bradford an "Israel free zone" once he was elected, so if you're intended to celebrate Passover, Bradford's probably not the place for you.

As I understand it, her apparent support for relocating Israel to somewhere in the USA was accompanied by a smiley face. That would suggest to me that she was not being entirely serious. Similarly, my suggestion many years ago that the `Palestinians should be given the land currently occupied by Israel and that the Falkland Islands should become the Jewish state was not meant as a serious proposition.

She also, in an unrelated post, shared a meme that compared Israel to Hitler, sans smiley. Given that Hitler wasn't a big fan of Jews, it's not a very nice comparison to make.
Yeh silly thing for a PPS to say - John McDonnell has been front and centre of getting rid of these antisemetic voices in the party!

And Ken Livingstone joins the list of suspended Labour Party members after saying that Hitler "supported Zionism before he went mad and ended up killing six million Jews." I daresay quite a few Labour members won't mind seeing Ken standing aside for a while.
Just when the Tories are on their knees, continually losing face, of course Labour come along and shoot themselves in the foot  You can't make this up, utterly baffling.

So, let's get this anti-semitism story right. One of the leading candidates in the London mayoral election has spent a large part of the campaign making sure that voters know about his principal rival's religion. Of course, we're not talking about the Labour candidate constantly going on about his rival being Jewish. As far as I know, he's never mentioned it. OTOH, Zac Goldsmith's main election theme has been "The Labour candidate is a Muslim".

Confused?

Despite the surname, I don't think Zac Goldsmith is Jewish.

In any case, despicable though his campaign has been, I don't think that *quite* gets Labour off the hook for the last week.

I'm in 2 minds about Goldsmith - on the one hand he is an environmentalist and got chucked out of Eton (both pluses to me), on the other hand he inherited his fathers billion or so, was non-dom before becoming an MP, has very suspect views on Islam (and yes he is of Jewish decent, which if anything else should throw up the phrase "two wrongs do not make a right") and on the whole could do with spending a few weeks in a London bedsit being forced to sign on, and doing his own shopping on that budget. Being filthy rich does not necessarily mean one is a bad person, but those that are born that way tend to have warped views of those that aren't, because of course, being poor is a lifestyle choice or due to being stupid.

He has tried to build a reputation for being "his own man" and willing to stand up to his party. He had the chance to demonstrate that by refusing to have anything to do with Lynton Crosby-style tactics in his mayoral campaign. He failed.

The Labour Party have issued a statement denouncing a critic of Jeremy Corbyn. Now what major, relevant figure have the Labour press team gone out and criticized? David Cameron? Michael Gove? Nigel Farage? Donald Trump?

Answer: Mick Hucknall. Mick bloody Hucknall.

well Mick needs the publicity, so they probably are Simply Red fans doing him a favour. Presumably the name alone would appeal.... :P

Money's Too Tight To Mention, cutbacks. It's like Mick knew 30 years ahead of time.....

Meanwhile, Labour MPs want to respond to a public vote to leave the EU by......replacing Corbyn with a leader who's even more pro-EU.

What could possibly go wrong.

Or at least one who might have a chance at appealing to voters enough to listen to what he says rather than ignore him...?

If there is no election before 2020, it doesn't really make much difference whether their leader is pro- or anti-EU. Labour are hardly likely to contest the 2020 election promising to apply for immediate re-entry.

Nope. They want to replace him with one who's anti-immigration.

The irony of finding myself neutral on him going.
