Soon as I say that it now appears that the Met police now say they ARE going to investigate as there appears to be evidence of criminality. Previously said they would wait for this Sue Gray report....this should apply more pressure on Johnson,

It doesn't matter. The Tories were always going to bounce back a little bit in the polls and the public have made their mind up already imo. The MPs can wait for the report all they want, I don't think the report is going to make too much difference to the general public. They just end up making themselves look silly a the end of it all. The cost of living crisis is going to be the nail for the Tories when it hits later in the year.

If they do get fined for the events that might actually help the Tories in some ways as a lot of people will feel they're at least being treat the same as the rest of us. That won't of course stop Johnson trying to get Dick out.

Yes it's terrible news as they will be able shut people up by saying "The Met are investigating". So terrible news for those wanting Johnson out, part of me wonders if they have got the Met to investigate themselves so it keeps the heat off. Still think there is more about this to come out which will keep it in the media.

Oon balance I think it's worse for Johnson that the police are brought in rather than any civil service whitewash which was likely to be the case. It's alll in the court of public opinoin anyhow this is set to ceme out anyhow like you say. Hope Cummings produces more smoking guns - he means business that's one thing for sure.

People are ringing into Radio 2 Jeremy Vine saying he's the PM and therefore he doesn't have to abide by the Law because it's not as if anyone died. Except the people he and others killed passing on Covid in hospital to.

Peston reckons the report will be pretty damning to the PM.
