August 26, 20159 yr I'm glad to see Godzilla so low, it was unbelievably uneventful and boring. But massive NO at The Lego Movie being so low. That film was absolutely amazing. Definitely top 5 of last year for me. Edited August 26, 20159 yr by RobinJuanPersie
August 27, 20159 yr Author Thanks for all the comments  I actually enjoyed the Lego Movie more than I was expecting, me and my mates all just sort of went for a laugh but it was all so enjoyable and a bit throwback to childhood and playing with Lego and wanting to bring them all to life like they were in this film. One of my favourite things about the Lego games themselves is seeing how different characters are created in Lego form so it was fantastic to see cameos from people like Milhouse, Lincoln and Shakespeare too. I agree the live-action part was awful though and really took me out of the movie. :( My friends literally loved the movie, I was the only one that hated it even though I was like the only one expecting to like it  I quite liked the camoes and definitely agree about the live-action part! I wasn't a fan of 'The Lego Movie' either I'm afraid :nocheer: It was well made, I think it just wasn't for me as such. The climax and ending were extremely well-thought out and enjoyable nevertheless, I loved how they managed to link the Lego world with the real world, I thought it was really clever. It's a pity that I didn't enjoy the first 2/3 of the movie but hopefully the sequel will win me over completely! For me it just didn't work :( I'll probably still watch the sequel though :D Oh no way, Mandela was born on my birthday too, omg! :o Two really good movies going out there imo :( :'( I agree that Divergent could've been slightly better with a few changes to make it more like the book but I think I would enjoy any adaptation of the book at all because the book is so strong, I loved seeing the Abnegation and Dauntless brought to life and I agree Shailene Woodley was very good, same about Miles Teller. Shame that Theo James was cast at all.. I actually though the best parts of Noah was when he went batshit crazy towards the end and and started trying to kill babies and burning the raft so they can't escape. I agree the acting from Russell and Emma was really good, I really like Logan Lerman too, he was the highlight of Fury for me when you get round to watching that. I found that out about Mandela a few years ago! He is literally the only celeb I remember that is born on our birthday (and Kristen Bell now because of Frozen) I think it went too overboard with the ending of Noah :( Logan Lerman got on my nerves in this but I have liked him in the other couple of things I've seen him in! Interesting to see different perspectives from someone who hasn't read the books (myself) and some who has (yourself) as I easily enjoyed Divergent more than Insurgent. Not that Lego Movie drag though, I still think the first three quarters or so are rather excellent but my feelings towards the movie did dampen a little since the first viewing and I continue to maintain that the live action element is awful and ruins it. It does seem to be most people who haven't read the books prefer Divergent, with my friends it was literally half of us that read the books were disappointed and the half that hadn't loved it! The live action definitely ruined it unfortunately :( There were more major changes in Insurgent than there were in Divergent. I'd disagree. And most of the changes in Insurgent were because of what happened in the 1st movie! The only change I was really annoyed about was a few of the characters being removed, especially I think Marlene :( Ah but I quite enjoyed Lego Movie! And Divergent was so low :( Most people seem to enjoy the lego movie! I'm definitely in the minority on that one! I'm glad to see Godzilla so low, it was unbelievably uneventful and boring. But massive NO at The Lego Movie being so low. That film was absolutely amazing. Definitely top 5 of last year for me. Godzilla was easily one of the most boring movies of last year so definitely agree but time to disagree on the lego movie again
August 27, 20159 yr Author http://i59.tinypic.com/6iwnl2.jpg 80. THE CALLING This was good until it went utterly mad with twists which were either stupid or boring. The cast was very good, especially Susan Sarandon who is always great! And it did start intriguingly and had quite an interesting plot so it's a shame it got really bad in the last 30 minutes or so :( 79. NEED FOR SPEED This is the part of the countdown which will go through the movies that were ok, a little bit disappointing or just utterly forgettable. Need For Speed was a quite fun movie with a good cast and cool stunts but was just a little bit boring and lacked something somewhere. 78. MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN I quite like this but there was potential for this to be so so much better. Too many characters were focused on, I'd say get rid of Adam Sandler's family as they were pointless. Focus the movie on Ansel Elgort and his girlfriend as they were by far the most interesting characters and keep in like the friends side stories as they were also good but it just felt a little bit disjointed unfortunately. Also the narration was useless and awful and all of those space or blah blah shots weren't needed. 77. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Due to the glut of superhero movies released each year, I always find that I find some forgetful/ quite boring compared to the others so expect to see quite a few big movies/superhero movies fall out in the next 20 or so. This was a good movie but nothing that was not seen in any of the previous movies and the villains were all awful! Emma Stone was great though as usual so it was a shame she died and it was a bit interesting but didn't stand out at all in the highly competitive superhero genre. 76. 12 YEARS A SLAVE This is a movie that would probably be about 30/40 places higher if I saw it again. However there were major sound problems when I saw this at the cinema so it was very hard to hear a lot of the dialogue in the movie. However the story was interesting and all the actors were excellent, especially Lupita Nyong'o who easily deserved her Oscar win for one of the best performances of 2014 by miles
August 27, 20159 yr The Lego Movie was definitely the best movie I saw last year! So funny, self-aware and an excellently constructed (:magic:) story which reflected them very well, that Oscars snub was still quite bizarre. The Babadook I can kinda understand how some don't find it scary, it's more of a psychological, subtle horror with overtly human themes rather than monsters/ghosts. I found it terrifying myself, but it's not for everyone. Noah/Divergent were pleasant but throwaway, I haven't read the books for the latter, but it still felt very generic and Hunger Games-lite. Godzilla I really liked, but I really didn't like the lead actors and agree that Bryan Cranston's characters shouldn't have been killed off so early. Good stuff so far! August 27, 20159 yr The Calling was such a bizarre film. As you say, it got really silly towards the end. But it was a very interesting concept.
August 27, 20159 yr I agree that the original Spiderman series was better than the 'amazing' ones but I still thought they were pretty good tbh!
August 27, 20159 yr Yeah, I completely agree with your comments it was just not up there with the other superhero films of its time, I really like Electro as a villian though, his power set, his design (even though the original headgear is rad) and Jamie Foxx's portrayal of him. I agree about Emma Stone too and how likeable she was as Gwen too, good job it got rebooted really before we had a Gwen-less ASM movie but I thought Tobey did a better job in the main role than Andrew. Forgot 12YAS was 2014 here, I sort of missed it off my list because I was making my list from the list on Box Office Mojo so it was listed as 2013. That'd definitely be up there, it's not usually my genre of film but it was really heartbreaking for the majority of it, sometimes really hard to watch due to the brutal treatment all the slaves received but knowing it was all based on real-life stuff just made it stick with me even more, really deserved all the awards abd nominations in received, especially Chiwetel and Lupita

Yeah i'm usually half/half with the psychological horrors and unfortunately the babadook fell into the lower half :( And echo your last comment about Godzilla! The Calling was such a bizarre film. As you say, it got really silly towards the end. But it was a very interesting concept. Definitely agree with you! I agree that the original Spiderman series was better than the 'amazing' ones but I still thought they were pretty good tbh! I think Toby was better than Andrew but he still did well and Emma was easily the standout! I also always forget 12YAS is 2014 as well  Aiming to do 15 movies now!
September 3, 20159 yr Author http://i57.tinypic.com/f54rbo.jpg 75. GRUDGE MATCH I really really enjoyed this at the time and it made me laugh and smile but I literally cannot tell you one thing about the movie so unfortunately even though it's good, it's so forgettable :( 74. NIGHTCRAWLER Outside the excellent performances- especially from Jake and Rene- I just found myself getting a bit bored during the movie and it didn't help that i'd only just managed to sneak in the movie which diverted my attention a bit. 73. THE EQUALIZER I think I like was on/off sleep for about half an hour but I found this disappointing. Denzel was great and the story was quite interesting but there was just something lacking. Also I wish Chloe was in it way more as she is always one of the best parts of any film she is in. 72. BRICK MANSIONS A really good action movie with a quite weak plot but was interesting enough to be good. It was also sad to see Paul Walker in one of his last roles and the little tribute at the end made me feel really sad that we had lost such a talent. 71. DEVIL'S KNOT Interesting but not much more than a good drama with good performances, especially by Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth who are great in any movies they are in. It just got a tiny bit boring at times. Should we get rid of three films rated 90%+ on Rotten Tomatoes in the next section?
September 3, 20159 yr Author http://i61.tinypic.com/1oakr7.jpg 70. THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES This was a bit better than the 2nd one but again not very memorable though the action scenes were good and visually it was an absolutely fantastic movie. 69. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST As I said earlier, because of how many superhero movies are made, I find some forgettable and a bit underwhelming and unfortunately this was one of them for me. It probably doesn't help that I've not seen many of the previous X-Men movies but I just got a little bit bored at times. Again the visual effects and the acting was great again! 68. A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES I found this really interesting but the villains at times verged on just too horrid to watch. However it was a bit too predictable at times but however another great action vehicle from Liam Neeson who is easily one of my favourite actors! 67. THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL I liked this but I find this a bit overrated. I love the script and Fiennes and Ronan stole the show easily. It was interesting but I just don't really see in it what most other people see in it. 66. PADDINGTON Another movie I find overrated now, I was really looking forward to this but I just found it a little disappointing. It was a solid family movie and that was it really, I loved Sally Hawkins though *.* It doesn't help that my screening was chaotic though as it was in the biggest screen sold out, someone was filming the movie on their phone, loads of people we're talking and my little cousin kept throwing popcorn at me during the movie!
September 3, 20159 yr DoFP is amazing Celine :( easily one of the best X-Men movies. All down to Shawn Ashmore obv. Have you seen the Rogue cut?
September 3, 20159 yr Author http://i62.tinypic.com/245dcgm.jpg 65. HEAVEN IS FOR REAL This was such an uplifting and beautiful movie with really good performances but it isn't really much more than that to make it into something amazing and rewatchable unfortunately. 64. LIFE AFTER BETH Aubrey Plaza absolutely steals the show here by about a thousand miles with easily one of my favourite performances of 2014, funny and entertaining and so amazing and underrated. The film on the whole is very enjoyable and the acting is great but the plot kind of loses it way towards the end sadly. 63. LABOR DAY Kate Winslet gives another 10/10 performance because when doesn't she and she is probably my favourite actress around. However the story can get a bit boring and I don't remember much about the movie apart from it being good. 62. PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR If this was released in like 2008, it would probably be in my top 15 but however because I have seen so so many animation movies, I need them to have something a bit extra than being just good fun for them to be great nowadays. This starts off quite poor and the last 20 minutes are easily the best part of the movie! I easily prefer Madagascar 1 and 3 and I'd say this is on par with number 2. 61. JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT Was expecting to hate this but I surprisingly enjoyed it as the plot was very fun and the acting on the whole was great, especially Chris Pine and Keira Knightley. A good fun movie to watch if you are feeling a little bored!
September 3, 20159 yr Author http://i61.tinypic.com/11815wn.jpg 60. DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Another blockbuster to go, I liked this but it was a bit boring at times and the 1st one was way better. It didn't help that I was desperate for the toilet most of the movie so I finally decide to go as it seemed like a boring part and it turns out I missed the most important part of the movie which was just typical! 59. TARZAN 3D I was expecting to hate this but I surprisingly enjoyed it as it was fun and interesting with a good plot (very similar to the movie at #58 actually I think) and was enjoyable. 58. RIO 2 This was quite disappointing considering Rio is probably in my top 10 of 2011. Blu just got really annoying in this movie and the villains were so underused it was really annoying but it was still a fun and good movie! 57. A NEW YORK WINTERS TALE Despite this having many many haters from reviewers and cinemagoers, I really enjoyed it and found it interesting with great performances. It was also a nice bit of relief and happiness as we'd been stuck in Wales as my dad got quite badly ill while we were on holiday so we got stuck there for a week so this gave me a bit of happiness when I was feeling down quite a bit. 56. TAMMY Another very good Melissa McCarthy comedy with excellent performances and great characters/script. For Melissa's main outings, I'd rank this way behind Bridesmaids/Spy, a bit behind The Heat and way better than Identity Thief which just got lost half way through that movie.
September 3, 20159 yr Author http://i62.tinypic.com/2h2jhfo.jpg 55. THE MONUMENTS MEN A very interesting movie with a fantastic cast all turning in fantastic performances, my only complaint would be it was a tiny bit boring at times but was very good and deserved to get better reviews imo. 54. NON-STOP Another great action movie with another great performance from Liam Neeson but it completely fell apart in the last 20 minutes as the villains and their motivations for their crimes were just utterly stupendous and ridiculous. Good film otherwise 53. TRANSCENDENCE So underrated, loved all the cast- especially Hall and to a bit lesser extent Depp- and found this enjoyable and exciting even if I didn't know what was going on half the time to be honest! 52. 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE I was expecting to hate this but it was a great action movie with very enjoyable performances and special effects. Eva Green easily stole the show and the plot was fantastic and I also pretty much understood what had happened in the 1st movie despite not seeing it. 51. INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS Great performances again especially with Oscar Issac's lead performance and I loved the music and the story. Another great movie from The Coen Brothers!
September 3, 20159 yr I actually really liked Labour Day, not much of a plot, but it's beautifuly acted. Non-Stop is legit amaze, Julianne Moore was fab in it. Edited September 3, 20159 yr by Regina
September 3, 20159 yr Not Paddington!!! In my top two or three movies of last year, it was brilliant, funny, heart-warming and touching. So cute. Can't believe it's beaten by Tammy and A New York Winter's Tale (quite easily my least favourite movie of those I saw last year, so ludicrous). Non-Stop
September 3, 20159 yr You've knocked both my top 2 movies of last year out now with The Grand Budapest Hotel! :P Loved that film, the visuals, script and characters were perfect, not quite Wes Anderson's best but up there. Paddington was very sweet too, certainly got the characterisations just right! Edited September 3, 20159 yr by Chez Wombat
