I have a few amazing songs in mind but it does depend on the veto rules, please make them non-existent? :angel:

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to reveal this yet but the only solid rules are no UK top 10 hits and no artists with a forum on BuzzJack (as far as I'm aware). However, the entries will be assessed for some sort of spookiness by a panel of experts (aka Chez, #psychic7 and myself) to prevent people from getting away with something extremely tenuous like Little Mix's 'Black Magic' for example (which would of course be banned under the first and second rules anyway). We aren't going to be TOO strict as this is subjective to some degree of course, just don't take the piss, try to find something that is at least slightly appropriate for the theme ~

+ It can't have been entered before/a Eurovision entry nor can the artist have a (very) significant following on here even with no AF (this is just to prevent something like Ellie Goulding winning again). I was gonna reveal that in the confirmations thread but now you all know :P

Okay that doesn't rule any of my potentials out I don't think ^_^ , maybe one but that depends on what a significant following on here actually means, like does their album thread need to have below a certain number or replies?

 

Also, on the level of scariness part, does the actual title and lyrics need to be scary or could you get away with a not so spooky sounding song but it has a very halloweeny music video to accompany it? :angel:

Just a quick word about the panel of experts as this hasn't ever been done before. One of the original aims of spin-offs was that hosts would take a lot of the veto responsibility themselves, but I haven't pushed this through the past couple of months as I feel it was unfair and too difficult for one person to take on the entire responsibility of vetos.

 

Therefore, we are trialling a "Host's Veto Panel" so that the host and his/her helpers (Chez, Bre and Seven in this case as mentioned above) can discuss the songlist between themselves and conduct the vetos themselves without having to consult the moderators (only a final list prior to the voting starting will need to be sent to the mods for a final check). This will hopefully also give an insight to non-moderators what goes on behind the scenes of the main contest! If it goes well this contest without too many issues then it's something we can look in carrying on with in the future.

The title doesn't need to be Halloweeny, we will be listening to the songs to assess them so it's all about the actual song (similarly a vaguely Halloweeny title alone doesn't mean it matches the theme, this isn't the X Factor :magic: though of course we won't object to Halloweeny titles). I'm unsure as to whether a Halloweeny music video alone for an otherwise entirely inappropriate song would be acceptable, I guess that would be something for discussion.

For the first point, I haven't actually got an exact definition yet, but I'd say if the thread's got over 100 replies or over say six pages then it's a definite No. Artists I'm thinking of are people like Ellie Goulding, Marina & The Diamonds, Florence & The Machine, Katy B, Rita Ora etc. Basically, I'd avoid big name music acts from the past few years (and especially those that get discussed a lot on here).

 

and yeah that would be fine providing it's not totally inappropriate, I highly welcome most spooky scary videos!

 

(Oops, sorry we've contradicted each other :lol: BASICALLY, we're still discussing this and we will judge them on a case by case basis, we're not being uber strict so if you have something that isn't obviously against the rules, please send it)

Spooky music videos are of course very welcome. Just saying if the song itself isn't appropriate at all then I'm not sure. (TBH if it has a spooky video the song will probably be somewhat spooky as well so this is unlikely to be a problem)

 

But yes as the above post says, we're really not being that strict so I expect you'd have to KNOW you were going to be rejected if you are ;o

i wish i had a similar idea for the last contest, i really wanted to veto Ellie (and MIA) but she fitted in with all the rules of the contest :(

You'd have to be trying to get a veto in order to get vetoed in a spin-off.
