November 20, 201510 yr I agree that the sales chart is much more interesting and varied but the official chart isn't made to be interesting, it's made to reflect the most popular songs of the week, and there's no denying that 1D and Justin have dominated this week, so it's only right that the official chart reflects this in my opinion. It's not a farce or a laughing stock, it's just moving with the times. Sales are declining and streams are rapidly becoming the main way of consuming music. I prefer the sales chart really but the official chart is a more accurate representation even if my faves don't always get the best positions :heehee: Basically, my point is that it's absolutely fine to dislike the effect of streaming, but it's definitely not a farce or unjustified as to why it's included. Fair enough points, and I dont have a problem with a chart showing streaming if sales are going the way of the dodo (we did that over a decade ago and that wasn't that accurate either) but the ratio was slotted in when sales were higher and streaming was lower to allow streaming to influence the sales chart, so I just want it to be adjusted to reflect that although sales are still decent, historically, the chart has been completely swamped already by a format that isn't in any way yet the most popular way of consuming music. By the time it does become mainstream and 80% of the population stream, the "sales" figures from streaming will be massive, even though in reality records will be no more popular than they are now or were 50 years ago. Maybe it don't matter, and I'm just an ex-popchartfreak :P
November 20, 201510 yr Streaming really is a joke....... chart should be sales only..... if you not prepared to pay 99p for a song then it shouldn't be charting....and what if you're prepared to pay £9.99 per month for a streaming service? because a lot of people do that (one quarter of Spotify's userbase), are you saying that those people shouldn't have any contribution to the chart? I even agree with non-paying customers having their streams counted too as royalties are still given out by ad-support. In any case it makes the chart more of an indication of what is popular with music consumers which is the purpose of the chart.
November 20, 201510 yr I could tolerate the anti-streaming comments soon after its inclusion in the charts but seriously people need to stop banging on about it now.
November 20, 201510 yr OMG at the image the OCC are using for Justin Bieber's Children  http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mGDufLOfvO7L1_ZsQy5vIyw.jpg
November 20, 201510 yr Someone with a sense of humour at the OCC. I don't have any problem with streaming being included in the singles chart, the album chart I do have a problem with - it's clunky and doesn't quite fit. Just let the album format die a dignified death instead of stringing it out uncecessarily.. Edited November 20, 201510 yr by Doctor Blind
November 20, 201510 yr I don't have a problem with streaming sales neither, its the way forward, and with technology changing every time in obtaining new music, it just shows the true presentation of the actual chart in my opinion, yes we all harp on about it that streaming sales is a joke, its just some people can't grasp it. :P the same thing happened over downloads when it was first introduced.

November 21, 201510 yr Delighted Ben Haenow made the top 10 (just about) looking at sales, Sam Bailey really had impressive first week sales in comparison and she didnt manage to have a hit outside her winners single, o paper you would think Ben would have achieves her sales. I like both but X Factor winners are often a mystery once they leave the show. Kylie has decent sales but i hope she can manage to stay in the chart for a few weeks, i cant see it outselling Kiss Me Once now.
November 21, 201510 yr 30 new entries (and 1 re-entry) in the streaming chart this week, must be a record! :o
November 22, 201510 yr James Masteron made an interesting point in his chart commentary - Beyonce is the only American act in the entire top 20 this week :o The charts are usually so US dominated that this seems highly unusual (quite a few songs from Canadians of course).
