November 20, 201510 yr Streaming really is a joke....... chart should be sales only..... if you not prepared to pay 99p for a song then it shouldn't be charting....
November 20, 201510 yr what do u mean should not even be in top 10.. streaming is a joke. jb's record is a lie..sorry is not #1 sales wise.
November 20, 201510 yr I'm glad 'Sorry' finally got to the top, I'm bored of 'Hello' now. I genuinely can't believe Bieber has 8 songs in the top 40 though. God, Ellie's fall on albums :o
November 20, 201510 yr Author what do u mean should not even be in top 10.. streaming is a joke. jb's record is a lie..sorry is not #1 sales wise. That's not how the chart works these days lol. Streaming counts, whether you like it or not.
November 20, 201510 yr LMAO @ people crusading against streaming. It's 2015. Streaming is legal, many pay for it and it's the preferable method of consuming music to millions. It is a completely legitimate way of measuring a song's popularity and profitability and it'll only grow bigger and bigger while digital sales will keep falling. Get used to it, accept it and stop moaning.
November 20, 201510 yr good to see the top75 getting a much needed clean out with... Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud Hozier - Take Me To Church James Bay - Hold Back The River Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk ...finally dropping out :cheer:
November 20, 201510 yr Interesting how Justin Bieber dominated on downloads (#1) & streams (#1) but was let down by physicals (#5). One Direction being #2 on all three formats was enough to grab #1 overall. I'm glad they did it, as a final hurrah before their hiatus! Justin's album will "win the war" anyway, as he is bound to have greater sales & longevity overall.

November 20, 201510 yr I suspect Adele will have something to say about that... ;) But if you were to read his post properly, you would see that he's specifically referring to the overall sales of those two albums.

November 20, 201510 yr Brayden's prediction of 1D getting #1 in the UK and Bieber possibly getting #1 in the US coming true :)
November 20, 201510 yr For some reason there doesn't seem to be a sales thread this week, but just if you were wondering Sorry had chart sales of 104,000 (and a 53,500 contribution from streams).
November 20, 201510 yr to add to some of the comments above, yes streaming is a farce, it's made the singles chart a laughing stock and of increasingly irrelevant interest. The complete Bieber domination is not reflected to the same degree in the sales chart, which is much more exciting, varied and interesting. Just because a loyal fanbase (who don't buy albums or singles) choose to listen to an album over and over and over endlessly providing fake sales in a catastrophically weighted combined chart of one tracks, does not give it any sort of credibility, and nor does it reflect overall popularity in music. Frankly Bieber could have included a track comprised of nothing but fart noises (and I like his current singles, so this is no reflection of music quality) it would have charted on the basis of fans playing it. Take a look at this weeks sales charts, some great records have made the top 40 (and failed to chart completely). So rubbish is the current ratio of streams vs sales that the 17th best-selling single is languishing in the 50's. Included is the Oasis 90's B side, the 60's pop track from Dion that is selling thanks to an advert, and other examples of music that don't get streamed by teenagers. Basically, long before sales have reached crisis levels they have been made irrelevant by a terrible decision that 100 streams equals 1 sale. In terms of revenue generated to the music industry and the artists, it doesn't equal one sale in any shape or form. Had there been streaming in the 60's The Beatles would have had the entire top 10 singles for weeks on end (they virtually did anyway in the USA with actual paid-for vinyl singles which cost the equivalent of a tenner these days) because their albums sold over long periods, sold a lot, and individual tracks were covered by myriad other acts, getting hits when the fabs didn't even bother releasing them as singles. The point being, I would have been arguing streaming was destroying the singles chart even if the greatest popular music act in history was getting 20 "singles" in the top 40 week after week and hanging around for years, to the exclusion of all the other brilliant pop acts that were about then.
November 20, 201510 yr Author I agree that the sales chart is much more interesting and varied but the official chart isn't made to be interesting, it's made to reflect the most popular songs of the week, and there's no denying that 1D and Justin have dominated this week, so it's only right that the official chart reflects this in my opinion. It's not a farce or a laughing stock, it's just moving with the times. Sales are declining and streams are rapidly becoming the main way of consuming music. I prefer the sales chart really but the official chart is a more accurate representation even if my faves don't always get the best positions :heehee: Basically, my point is that it's absolutely fine to dislike the effect of streaming, but it's definitely not a farce or unjustified as to why it's included.
