January 18, 20169 yr Great stuff in here since I last commented~ I'd completely forgotten about 'Stronger' until seeing it on people's EOYs as it didn't make a big impression on me at the time. Clean Bandit's songs often come off as overly cheesy to me, but this one gets the balance right and definitely seems underrated in general. Excellent to see triple Years & Years in your top 20. I find it very difficult to decide on which of the big three singles I prefer overall, and I agree with you about the updated version of 'Eyes Shut' being superior and much more polished than the original, though I'll always have a soft spot for that too as I think the vocals really sell it. <3 Yesss @ MOR with a hat slaying :cheer: and 'WILD' is gorgeous too. I'm quietly confident Troye will take off properly in time - he's too good at what he does to remain unappreciated by the mainstream.
January 18, 20169 yr Author Trouble is absolutely incredible   Think we're practically the only 2 who like it on Buzzjack though :kink: :( ikr :( It's so underrated, I'm glad Iggy was able to put out a fun song like this where it's not all about the rap etc! Such a brilliant song  Thanks Sam :D Some great songs here. Glad Sorry has done well. I liked What Do You Mean at first but upon getting Sorry I never go back to it, because I feel it's just so inferior to it. Wild is amazing of course. I remember us listening to the album first time through the critic stream and I instantly loved it. I also remember discussing Trouble's incredible Carpool boost as it was happening ! Thanks Joe  I actually split my affection quite equally between the two Justin songs, they're so close together for me, I love them both lots though! WILD  That was such a great moment, hearing the album 3 weeks early! The song has always been a huge standout for me and it's yet to get old. I remember talking to you on FB while I was in my IT lesson about its iTunes progress! Oh fun times  Great stuff in here since I last commented~ I'd completely forgotten about 'Stronger' until seeing it on people's EOYs as it didn't make a big impression on me at the time. It had a spark to it that their previous singles didn't I think. I totally see what you mean about them being quite cheesy generally, but I liked Rather Be to an extent and Extraordinary was good too. This was the first one I loved though  Years & Years have been quite the surprise breakthrough of the year for me I think! I didn't expect them to do quite so well come EOY time, but all three are completely worthy of their top 20 positions. I've only heard the original and it didn't do much for me sadly :( MOR with a hat :cheer: Troye really MUST take off soon, he's incredibly talented and he's getting so much hype. I really do with Blue Neighbourhood had the chart success to match the critical acclaim though :( 'Young & Restless' *.* Easily his best song. Correct (although I am loving Unbreakable loooots) *.* Thanks Adam
January 18, 20169 yr Author Artists http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Troye%20Sivan.png 1 Troye Sivan So here we are, my #1 artist of 2015! And boy, what a winner we have here. Following in the footsteps of The Vamps last year and Ulrik Munther the year before, Troye becomes the third male winner out of three. This #1 changed numerous times when I started arranging this countdown but I settled on Troye a while ago, because he's really impacted me in a way no other artist has in the past year. Troye's music first became known to me in late 2014 with his debut single Happy Little Pill. I liked it but didn't love it, and kinda forgot about him until he was entered to BJSC with Touch last February. I really liked that and downloaded the TRXYE EP to listen through, it sounded pretty nice but again, I wasn't bowled over. It wasn't until his next release, WILD, when I fell in love. I detailed my thoughts on WILD not that long ago in the countdown but it really is such a perfect song, and one that really opened me up to Troye's music. The WILD EP kept growing too, and I booked tickets to see Troye live with Jáhq in November last year. It was a fantastic night, he performed five of the six songs on the WILD EP, plus TALK ME DOWN, YOUTH and SUBURBIA from the album, and Happy Little Pill (bearing in mind the album wasn't out at this stage so he didn't perform the entire thing). Troye came across so well, and I think that's what makes me such a huge fan alongside the incredible music - how down to earth he is. He seems like someone I'd want to hang out with, and he seems so humbled by having the following he does, it's really sweet and endearing. Then came Blue Neighbourhood. A critically acclaimed album featuring the six WILD EP songs and 9 new tracks. Each and every song is incredible in its own way I think, and I say this after it's grown beyond my expectations, even after it was my #1 album of 2015. Some songs were instant (WILD, TALK ME DOWN, YOUTH, for him.), and others took more growing (FOOLS, HEAVEN, BLUE), but I strongly believe that there is no weak link. Themes include falling in love, dealing with sexuality and even an experience in a gay club. Troye's music is honest and incredibly open for someone who's just released their debut album, and it's the kinda thing that I can see sticking with me for years to come. I can relate to a lot of it and it just never gets old, and I honestly think it will contend for an all-time favourite album of mine in the future. I've got tickets to see Troye again with Jack in April this year and I am beyond excited, hopefully he'll perform the entire album so I can experience Blue Neighbourhood in a live setting. Troye has more than delivered this year and is completely worthy of this #1 spot, what a revelation  SONG TO CHECK OUT DT5jp0kpr9A
January 18, 20169 yr Author Also, all that's left now is my top 2 songs! It is between: CONRAD SEWELL - HOLD ME UP and ONE DIRECTION - DRAG ME DOWN Which will win?? HYPE PLS
January 18, 20169 yr Oh gosh Jseoph :snif: That write up for Troye was so from the heart and only music that has properly affected you in such a wonderful way can spark that level of passion  Firstly~ how down to earth he is. He seems like someone I'd want to hang out with, and he seems so humbled by having the following he does, it's really sweet and endearing. ^ this makes me very happy to read. I haven't seem him live, but I get the fact he seems quite humbled by his fame and it's a brilliant quality to have. He is so likeable and really speaks to you from the music. Then came Blue Neighbourhood. A critically acclaimed album featuring the six WILD EP songs and 9 new tracks. Each and every song is incredible in its own way I think, and I say this after it's grown beyond my expectations, even after it was my #1 album of 2015. You know I love the album too so I share a lot of these thoughts. It will definitely stick with me for a long, long time - so raw, open and honest as you say and so relatable. Gosh, I struggle to find a weak link too (and even my #1 album of the past year had a few tracks that I *could* skip! :o). I fully get him and whether he becomes the next BIG THING to the general public or not, i'm glad at least the two of us can share in that together :snif: GAH I love the album so much ~~~
January 18, 20169 yr Nice top 10! Love the Bieber tracks and big fan of Hold In My Heart too, great that it managed to hold on for a top 40 place just about. I'd prefer Drag Me Down to win of the 2, turned into a big grower like most of their song actually.
January 18, 20169 yr Troye really is a amazing artist  So raw and not afraid of being something different in terms of pop  Also relativly great top 10 Joseph :cheer:
January 19, 20169 yr HYPE HOLD ME UP and DRAG ME DOWNThis is actually quite amusing! (Conrad surely?)
January 19, 20169 yr Author Those two titled songs in the top 2  >>>>>>>>>>> tbh :cheer: Tell me about it! Oh gosh Jseoph :snif: That write up for Troye was so from the heart and only music that has properly affected you in such a wonderful way can spark that level of passion  Firstly~ how down to earth he is. Troye really is such a special artist and you're right, even if he doesn't break through properly, we still have this album between us with loads of good memories attached already  Nice top 10! Love the Bieber tracks and big fan of Hold In My Heart too, great that it managed to hold on for a top 40 place just about. I'd prefer Drag Me Down to win of the 2, turned into a big grower like most of their song actually. Thanks Dobbo  Glad you're liking the top 10! Cheers Jordan *.* I only noticed it when I typed up the subtitle for the thread (not even intentionally putting the top 2 there) I'm just typing up commentary for the top 2 now but its reveal is IMMINENT
January 19, 20169 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/One%20Direction%20-%20Drag%20Me%20Down.png 2 One Direction - Drag Me Down - 1-1-2-2-3-3-3-4-2-5-6-10-11-16-20-16-21-26-... (18+ weeks) So here we are! Before we get to the winner, here's the runner-up. Drag Me Down was the first single from One Direction's fifth album, and final pre-break album, Made In the A.M., and it was given a surprise release in August, when it was put onto iTunes without any prior announcement. I remember being on holiday in Cornwall and intending to have a lie-in that day, but I woke up at around 8am (fully intending to go back to sleep), checked my phone and saw that there was a new 1D single. I was beyond excited of course so I had to turn the laptop on. It went on repeat and I definitely didn't end up going back to sleep! I find Drag Me Down quite underrated in the grand scheme of things actually. Of course, it went to #1 in the UK and was well deserving of that, but from some 1D fans on Buzzjack, it's not really as well loved as I feel it should be. I find it incredibly anthemic, I cannot resist singing along and the vocals of all four guys are on top form. I guess I'm biased in saying Harry's vocals really take centre stage, as he takes the adlibs role from Zayn (but, well, Harry is my fave for more than just aesthetic reasons). Niall also really shines as he leads the chorus for the first time in a 1D single, and I love Louis' NOBODEH NOBODEHs too  Liam's fairly underused on this but he does well with what he has of course. Zayn isn't even missed as far as I'm concerned (don't shoot me Adam and Calum). Drag Me Down is the most successful 1D single in my chart by a mile, surprisingly becoming their first song to get over 20 weeks in my chart (previous high was 18 weeks with Best Song Ever). It also got a new record for number of top 10 weeks for a 1D single, with 12 (again, Best Song Ever had the highest with 10 beforehand). Of course, it's worth bearing in mind that What Makes You Beautiful and Gotta Be You were released before my chart actually began, so aren't included in records. WMYB is my favourite 1D song, and would be my #1 song of 2011 too so I expect that would have the record if I did my chart then, but Drag Me Down is my 2nd fave 1D song so it's a more than worthy record holder. This is the highest 1D have been in any of my EOY charts to date (2012 to 2015), with previous yearly highs being #15 in 2012 (Kiss You), #9 in 2013 (Best Song Ever) and #24 in 2014 (Night Changes), although Night Changes only impacted at the very end of 2014 so would've been MUCH higher with an extended period of time. As said before, they'd have topped the 2011 EOY had I done one, with What Makes You Beautiful. What an incredible way to go out though, with one of their best songs to date. I'd say that this is the end for 1D in my EOY chart for now, due to the break, but History will of course be eligible for 2016! :cheer: Jwgf3wmiA04
January 19, 20169 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Conrad%20Sewell%20-%20Hold%20Me%20Up.png 1 Conrad Sewell - Hold Me Up - 28-X-4-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-4-5-4-5-8-8-13-15-21-20-21-13-14-17-21-29-33-36-39-X (29 non-consecutive weeks) I imagine the reaction of some of you to this #1 is "wtf?", as this song wasn't even close to becoming a UK hit, but I hope you can all still read the commentary here and take a listen to the song below, because I really cannot recommend it enough. Conrad Sewell first became known to me via Firestone in the chart, like for many of you I imagine. I've said this already but Firestone wasn't at all instant and Conrad's voice didn't do much for me at first. It grew though and I began to appreciate Conrad's excellent voice, so I checked out some solo material out of interest. I listened to a preview of Hold Me Up and it impressed me, much more pop and uptempo than I expected. I was enjoying it for a couple of days but it kinda got overshadowed after that and entered at #28 in my chart that week, before falling out the week after. I rediscovered the song when browsing for new music and gave the video a watch (nothing too exciting I must admit lol), but the song totally re-clicked with me and I re-added it to my playlist, and I really did fall in love. The infectious chorus mixed with Conrad's sublime vocals make for a really incredible pop track, not too dissimilar to that of John Newman but without sounding like a goat of course. Hold Me Up is probably the most pop song Conrad's done so far and he admits that himself, and sadly it was a bit of a flop in Australia, peaking at #39, but that was before the smash hit duo of Firestone and Start Again made him a big deal out there. It was however left off his EP there. It got a push in the UK and Radio 1 put it as the Track of the Day but didn't go on to playlist it :drama: and it got a US push too, making the Bubbing Under top 25 (which is a result I guess) but again, nothing much, which baffles me as it's always screamed huge hit. I entered the song into BJSC in July, thinking it would likely be vetoed due to Firestone but thankfully, it got let through and finished at a respectable 14th place there. At least it's getting recognition somewhere  It's most definitely up there with my all-time favourite BJSC entries of mine. The song itself is just so joyous and uplifting, and I really couldn't get enough of it for a period of time, when it broke the record for consecutive weeks at #1 in my chart, getting 6 in a row before being knocked off by Sarah Harding's Threads (!). Conrad is a huge rising star and one of the best discoveries of the year for me. When I first heard this, I never expected it to contend for my EOY #1, but there really was no competition as much as I love Drag Me Down. This song defines 2015 for me and it just proves that there's more great music beyond the chart. hHGsHPzrfE4

January 19, 20169 yr Author Finally, a HUGE thank you to everyone who read and commented on this!! I've thoroughly enjoyed it and I really hope you all did too :D
January 19, 20169 yr Great #1 :cheer: glad it went past the veto (not as glad as you obv :heehee:) Drag Me Down is far from 1D's best for me though :nocheer:
January 19, 20169 yr I really enjoyed reading this. I love your broad-ranged and unpretentious passion for music and we have so many similarities running through our charts (well, my imaginary charts). This was also beautifully laid out, so if I didn't like one of the songs I can just marvel at your layout skills... In terms of your top 2, I really enjoyed that Conrad song and wish it had had some attention, commercially, here. Drag Me Down is one of 1D's weaker moments for me, but I've started to enjoy it quite a bit more very recently.
January 19, 20169 yr Well your #1 album and artist make up for the singles chart at least -_- :kink: JOKE i like the #1 and the #2 but haven't really connected with them a whole lot like you have. Still this has been a very good thread to follow and i'm looking forward to any artists/songs/albums that we can both share in throughout 2016 too! http://www.skype-emoticons.com/images/emoticon-00157-sun.gif
January 20, 20169 yr Very good countdown. My favourites in your top 20 being Do It Again, Doing It & Sorry.
