Commentary

That massively long song title *.* Anyway this is Oliver Heldens' highest hit this year and it was the one he started the year off with, also re-entering/re-peaking upon UK release. It's everything you come to expect from Oliver Heldens really but it's just so good. Also it gets nostalgia points from me as I remember the original from about 10 years ago from a random dance compilation I got. Ane Brun's vocal is also a nice addition too but the instrumental mix is just as good. All-round banger really. Keep em coming Sir Heldens!

Commentary

After the seriously amazing 'Love Too Deep' (last year's #3) I was of course looking forward to what these guys were gonna do next, and when I realised it would be another collab with each other I knew it was gonna be something amazing. What we got was a really deep and chilled tune, and like the title suggests it really was something else to 'LTD'. Only half as good but to get anywhere near that quality is something to be celebrated, and so they start the final quarter of the Hot 100. I have a big feeling that this will be the only EOY the song charts on though :lol: Don't worry there will be some more well known songs to come.

Commentary

This charting in the UK top 10 was one of the best chart moments of early 2015, as it's a really good future house song and definitely the type of thing we should be encouraging. Also it's the highest future house song in this EOY chart!! The drop is just so banging and I love the soulful vocal of Taylor too. Unfortunately neither have made anything worthy of my top 50 since, but at least Tchami has 'Untrue' from last year to prevent one-hit wonder status.

David Zowie really brought out a perfect deep house banger for the summer with this, and it even made UK chart history by being the first #1 on a Friday *.* I do like the woman's weird vocals on this too. The bassline is just so catchy though that I just had to love it! What I wanna know now is how Zowie is going to follow this up, he seems like an obvious one-hit wonder but hopefully we get at least another good tune from him in 2016.

Promesses was a really cool track to have in top 10 however After Life was even better IMO!

 

Something Else was a bit of a letdown after Love Too Deep.

Commentary

Sometimes all you need is a little guitar riff, a laidback house beat and a few lyrics. Because that's all the song has to it but it's a right grower and it works very well. It was great to see this become a big UK hit as it's a perfect summer tune (the summer bangers always do really well with me so I think that's going to be a bit of a theme throughout the rest of the chart)

Commentary

Armin's year started off with 'Together', which he produced in celebration of making 700 episodes of his radio show 'A State Of Trance' (hence the title). It also marks the third year in a row the trance legend has been in the year's Hot 40, following 'Save My Night' (#28, 2014) and 'This Is What It Feels Like' (#8, 2013). The song is the highest in the trance genre in the countdown (I feel like I may have said that before, but this is actually it), it's just amazingly euphoric and exactly how I love trance music to sound like. Commentary

Sigala started the summer off with the Jacksons inspired 'Easy Love', which eventually both won the BJSC and climbed to the UK #1 position. It's an amazingly fresh tune and definitely the kind of house I really love and can get behind. The sample is great but it's definitely the production that shines here. Sigala would then go on to make multi-week #1 'Sweet Lovin' which is yet to appear, so I'm really looking forward to how his 2016 will look like.

Commentary

Michael Calfan ended last year with this wonderful house anthem. It's got low pitch vocals, tropical vibes and of course piano chords. All of which make for an excellent tune. This making the UK top 20 was really great to see too, any dance song that doesn't follow the typical pop song structure doing that well is a great achievement so yay for good collective music taste.

Commentary

Out of the whole top 20 only two songs don't fall into the 'dance' genre. Both of them are by Fetty Wap, yep he really has owned 2015, and this was the song that started it all. 'Trap Queen' has a great trap beat and is irresistibly catchy and full of hooks. He has an oddly good voice for rap anyway, not your typical "great vocalist" lol but he really keeps you interested especially with the first verse (which is so good it gets repeated later in the song! *.*)

Commentary

We had been waiting a long time but this year they came back with buzz single 'Bang That' which did nothing for me. Thankfully they didn't wait too long afterwards to release their proper comeback, 'Holding On' which was instantly great and just what I expected and wanted from the Disclosure guys! I'm no fan of Porter's solo music but damn his voice is perfect for this song, right from the beginning held-on note (what a good start to a song by the way). Sadly the rest of the album wasn't quite this good but at least they've still got it in them to make Settle-quality tunes, just a shame this song couldn't even make the UK top 40 though.

Are You With Me & Easy Love both among the best #1 of last year :heart:

 

Treasured Soul is amazing, would love more of that type of hit around.

 

And great to see Trap Queen so high up there, around about where it'll be on my chart. Surprised 679 has outperformed that though it's not as good IMO.

City Lights - One of the best on Stories :cheer: it'll be about the same position in my EOY I think.

 

CSP is great and Promesses is quite good, didn't really love it that much though. I heard House Every Weekend on NNE and I think I'm loving it even more now (also forgot to chart it oop)

 

Are You With Me - great start from LF and the Kungs remix is even more lush :music:

 

Easy Love deserved its BJSC slayage amirite? :music:

 

Treasured Soul - This is great, loved it for a while but gone off it a bit quickly, I guess because it's quite repetitive and the deep voice vocals don't always do it for me

 

Trap Queen - I grew to this slightly but the Two Friends remix does it a lot better for me

 

Holding On - great track, prefer Bang That/Magnets and their White Noise era, now THAT was a tune :music:

Commentary

Avicii gave us a few teasers of the album just days before its release, and this was one of them - eventually debuting at #1 based on half a week's sales. Like many Avicii songs it's very instant and it's what I come to expect from him. It does sound like an slower Wake Me Up or Waiting For Love but it has enough identity of its own to be quite amazing in itself. Such a shame this didn't get a proper commercial push even though it got a video and single release :( Avicii has just one more song left, which could potentially be the EOY #1 of the year. Could Avicii do it again? Keep checking this thread to find out. The top 20 will resume tomorrow.

Easy Love, House Every Weekend and Can't Stop Playing (Makes Me High) are all great. Are You With Me and Treasured Soul are both good aswell.

 

Trap Queen is horrific, and Holding On was the start of me losing hope for Disclosure. I can't say I particularly like Broken Arrows either, but the video is one of the best of the year.

Yay at Can't Stop Playing getting some more recognition and someone else who actually likes Ane Brun's addition, the vocals are quirky but it makes the song way more interesting otherwise it would just be another banger but she definitely elevates it.

 

Always forget Promesses was even this year but it was a real banger, shame it wasn't a bigger hit though because it really is forgotten in terms of chart hits. Excited to see what else he has coming out, hope it's just as commercial. I didn't really get Untrue.

Loving Jess, Sigala and Michael Calfan from the last two pages :wub: I wish I'd have kept 'Treasured Soul' in my chart a bit longer as it's a good dance track. Shame about it's Official Run as well :(
