At the moment he's dominating the charts and the whole music world.. but when will this domination stop? Will it stop??

 

Imo - he'll have one more big hit in mid 2016 and then die down for a while.

You can't really predict when someone's relevance will end, it just happens naturally. Rihanna seemed unstoppable back in 2010/2011 and I'm sure no one thought anyone could be bigger and now her star's fading slightly, maybe he'll go the same route in about four/five years time. Just have to wait and see, for the next year at least, it'd be hard pressed for him to do much wrong.

I was going to post that if streaming had been as popular / included in the charts in 2010 and 2011 then Rihanna would probably have dominated the charts like Justin Bieber is now doing. Similarly Lady GaGa would have probably done so in 2009 / early 2010.

 

Unfortunately streaming means that the likelihood of one or two acts completely dominating the charts is now more likely, especially as download sales are collapsing fast mainly because younger people are choosing to stream instead. I expect that by this time next year many popular acts (like the Bieber's of this world) will be reaching number 1 on a regular basis with download sales below 20,000 while streaming sales will be getting closer to 100,000 for the big hits, especially if the charts, as seems a high probability, start to include audio streaming data from the likes of YouTube and Vevo.

But he's already been around for almost 6 years but just seems to be peaking now. It looked like his time was up in 2013 but he's come back stronger than ever.

Bieber in the UK is simply benefiting from the streaming rules. His big fan base ensures that his records stay high. If it was just a sales chart he would be able to dominate that charts for a few weeks tops, since the fans have to buy his records, once they have them - end of chart life. Not so with streaming, his fans can ensure that his records stay high, by doing what they like to do anyway just listen to the records. They don't even have to try to keep him top, there at that many of them it just happens.

Oddly the fact that the streaming keeps the records high, people who still buy records then hear about him so the cycle encourages even more popularity for him.

 

Sadly it's turned the UK charts into the Justin Bieber is God Chart. Not that anyone cares about the charts anymore!

The time to make this comment was in 2010, and it's been proven wrong. He has already passed this phase and he's clearly expanded his audience since then. Like him or not, you can't just pass him off as a 'young heartthrob for the teenage girl audience' any more, and he DOES have genuine longevity.

You are aware the sales-only chart is still published right? And, shock horror, Bieber has been dominating that as well for the past few months.

He'll dominate all of next year at least, then presumably have a quieter period before the next album. If he contineus the wide appeal he has right now, he'll dominate with the next album too. He's massively re-invented himself and it's now cool to like Justin Bieber, which is impressive considering just earlier this year, he was probably a guilty pleasure for most!

 

As for me, I never want it to end *.* Waited too long for him to finally smash big time in the UK :kink:

Unfortunately, I think he will continue to dominate the charts next year. His music is very bland and dull so I don't get it personally.

I thought it was already over with his fans growing up and him being a complete brat but then this album happened. I've not quite fathomed why though. He has quite a thin, whiny voice and it's pretty beige but the songs appear to have taken people.

I thought that streams were attributed to the parent album somehow, so how come this extraordinary singles chart domination?

I like "Love Yourself".
