Danaelanda score their third qualification of the year with Maceo Plex's 'Mirror Me' sailing into the final, even being announced very early to give us a tension-free night and some sleep. It is the fifth consecutive time Danaelanda have made the final cut of the BJSC, and the fifteenth non-consecutive since we started our nine-contest Q-streak in BJSC68*, broken up by our single DNQ in BJSC78 by poor brave Christina Novelli.

 

It is the longest song we have sent to a non-spin-off BJSC, and it seems as though the risk has paid off. 'Mirror Me' however is not the longest entry in the final as the Skallii entry beats us by about 15 seconds.

 

*[which really should have started in BJSC67 as our DNQ in that contest would have not applied if the current rules were in place].

Major losses for us are Triangledonia, St. Burbia, Medhelnia, Trifoski and Tartford. The Buzzjack masses didn't get everything right this time (as frequently happens), but at least I and a few others appreciated these entries. ^_^

BJSC 83: Results Commentary

 

 

Danaelanda finish mid-table again; Yehesi score debut victory.

 

Last contest Danaelanda finished 22nd with the wonderful synth-indie-blog-pop 'Get Away'. This time we do one better, with the dark house entry 'Mirror Me' from Maceo Plex and C.A.R. (which fun fact stands for Choosing Acronyms Randomly and her real name is Chloe Battant) finishing in 21st with 173 points (2 more points than 'Get Away' scored, such consistency!!).

 

Yehesi got their first top 3 in the last contest with 'Bonbon', their highest peak to date. They do even better this time round and win for the first time with '10.000 Luchtballonnen' (which annoyingly uses the decimal point instead of the comma to signify 10,000 of something). It adds still to the growing number of foreign language winning entries, following 'Mitt Liv Ar Mitt', 'Derniere Danse', 'Habib Galbi' and last contest's 'Free Tibet'. The winning entry had a total of 350 points, 10 less than last contest's winner.

 

In second place is Cadelicia, the only other country to pass 300 points this contest. It is their highest position to date. Also re-peaking after a break from the contest is Dobago who finish 3rd with our favourite foreign entry of the contest 'Feel'. Ramrynia come back from their shock DNQ in style with a #4 finish for 'Feeling' (lots of Feel-inspired entries this contest) from BB Diamond (famous in Danaelanda for her collabs with EDX and Shift K3Y).

 

Pupok finishes the top 5 for the 2nd time in a row, proving that novelty female rap will always appeal to the Buzzjack masses.

 

Cor Lupus recover from last contest's DNQ also, finishing in 6th with tropical-trap entry 'Bring Back The Summer'. Right now I would love for Summer to be brought back but alas, that will only really happen when July comes.

 

Botanikka and Unovia both took breaks from the contest and come back with #7 and #8 finishes respectively. For Unovia it was their 50th anniversary entry. These types of entries have in the past usually flopped a bit. Though clearly there's enough demand for Australian Idol pop stars even now. Botanikka sent the brilliant Eurodance smash 'This Girl' which got 15 points from ourselves.

 

Hushkanukia and Séyetana finish the top 10. The Séyetanan people are currently partying like it's 1699 after hearing of their finish. The Hushkanukian are also celebrating, for the fact that we don't think their entry is awful for once. Alas, we still didn't give the song any points.

 

Ultraviolenceland finish 11th, their highest position to date - which they note is infamously the peak of Idina Menzel in the UK chart. Sadly the song is terrible, but it got enough pop hoe votes to do well.

 

#00274E were tipped to be an underdog contender with cat alarm anthem 'Now Bad Boy'. They finish in an unlucky 13th. Also notable outside the top 10 are the two autoqualifiers which underperform in 38th and 41st respectively for Ethanola and Vülkyria. The Vülks are saved from last place by Bignia-Zaragovina with their awful entry 'Elektrisk', which received a 15% deduction for late voting. FKA π also receive a deduction of 33% and thus finish in a lowly 40th. The bottom 3 fail to pass the 100-point mark.

Representing Danaelanda this contest is Belgian house producer Mickey with his first Spinnin' release 'It's My Man', which features uncredited female vocals. It is also our first entry of the year to be sourced from Spinnin' Records.

"Grooving to a sweet, 90s tinged house gem as Mickey drops It's My Man. Nice piano chords and exciting, soulful vocals grab most of the attention, while sweet melodics and uplifting drum patterns make sure the energy is always there. Vintage house and an early 2016 classic!"

 

We certainly have to agree!

 

Mickey is probably best known for his 2014 club hit 'Sweet Baby', which has 1.5 million plays on Spotify and is quite a tune too. However 'It's My Man' is even better in my opinion. Take a listen if you're interested.

Mickey gives us another final entry

 

It was recently announced that Mickey with 'It's My Man' has qualified to the final of this contest. The odds and predictions had us down as an easy qualifier and thankfully there was no shocking outcome regarding ourselves. Mickey gives Danaelanda its 6th consecutive qualification, a number only beaten by a handful of countries including the mighty Aeroche who now take the lead after Hushkanukia's first DNQ in over a year.

 

We're hoping that the entry gets many fans and gives us another top 20 after coming painfully close in the last 2 contests (with a #22 and a #21!).

 

Arston finishes 9th in Worldvision II

 

Worldvision II gives Danaelanda yet another 9th-place finisher in the spin-off series as we were given Belarus and thus discovered the great trance tune that is 'Light' from Arston. It is an improvement from when we were given Indonesia last year and couldn't find anything better than 7 minute long techno (that wouldn't get vetoed), although that somehow finished in the top 15.

 

We're on the hunt for a BJSC 85 entry

 

Next contest it will officially be 5 years (and 50 contests) since Danaelanda joined the Buzzjack Song Contest and we are hoping to line up something special for the occasion. This won't be our official 50th contest anniversary entry however as we took a 4-contest break during this period.

 

Pending mod approval we will be sending a 5-year old song that I should've really made my debut with.

'Light' was another great entry from you though! I find that I seem to like your spinoff entries far more consistently than your main contest entries. (With the exception of the Xmas Special and BJ10 things, I think I've voted for all the other ones).

Semi Final: 17th (of 30); 50 points

Final: 24th (of 41); 152 points

 

Danaelanda narrowly miss the top 20 ... again

 

After missing the top 20 with Paperwhite and Maceo Plex we were hoping for a better position with Mickey 'It's My Man'. Sadly that is not the case and we in fact finish in 24th. We also performed poorly in the semi-finals, finishing in just 17th - though still enough tot ake us into the final.

 

I'm not sure how we're meant to go on from here, if a Spinnin' certified jam can't give us a top 20, then maybe nothing will.

 

In other news FARC had a landslide victory scoring 465 points, ten of which were given by us. Yehesi finished in 2nd with our fave 'All Night Long', giving the country their third consecutive top 3 and giving them bronze, silver and gold medals within 3 contests, following in the path of Numayania and Daehun. Vülkyria, Aeroche and FSR Rontvia finish the top 5.

Oh my! This is what I expected at first from you - good to see you sending in the end, so summery/infectious/funky, I really think it could do well here! Surely another top 20 for Danaelanda?

I'm not counting on a top 20 personally considering my entries are destined to finish in the 21-25 region at the moment (my last 3 entries have literally gone 22-21-24 :lol:)
