Looks like "Blackstar" could clear 100k by Friday. Very good for a #1 album in January. The last album not Adele related to clear 100k in January was The View's album "Hats Off To The Buskers" when it reached #1 on 28 January 2007

Just for the record, HMV Dundee sold out of Bowie's new album this morning. Some of his previous CD's are on display at the front door. :)
Hadji, why is your username hadji?

Because it's my nickname. It's a shortened version of my last name Hadjilouca

I wonder how well "Labyrinth" is doing in DVD sales.
"Labyrinth" has sold out on Amazon (DVD and Blu-Ray!) as well as its soundtrack!

Seems like Bowie is taking over the chart now!

Sales of 90,000 for Black Star at #1

His 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is currently at 19 while 1971's Hunky Dory is at 20 and 1973's Aladdin Sane is at 32.

There are also three retrospective records climbing up the ranks, with Nothing Has Changed (2014) at seven, The Best of David Bowie 1974/1979 (1998) at 13 and Best of Bowie (2002) at 27.

Just outside the Top 40, there are seven more Bowie records primed to move even higher up the charts.

Low (1977) and The Next Day (2013) are at 42 and 44 respectively while Diamond Dogs (1974) is at 51 and Heroes (1977), Best of 1980/87 (2007), Let's Dance (1983) and Station to Station (1976) complete the Top 100 at 62, 63, 81 and 99.

Bowie's astonishing collection of singles is also making an impact. 'Heroes' (1977) is at 25 and could be about to beat its chart best of 24.

'Life On Mars' is at 34, 'Starman' is at 35, 'Let's Dance' enters at 43 and 'Space Oddity' claims 35.

The domination continues with Blackstar's 'Lazarus' at 86, 'Under Pressure' at 87, 'Ashes to Ashes' at 90 and 'Changes' at 94.

ARE YOU FROM DUNDEE????

OCC article here too:

Many of David Bowie’s classic singles and albums are set to enter this week’s Official Albums Chart, as fans mourn the loss of a music icon this week.

A total of fourteen Bowie albums and nine singles have impacted today’s latest Official Chart sales flash, based on sales up to midnight last night.

Bowie’s latest album Blackstar, which was released last Friday and was already heading for Number 1 this week before news of his death broke, continues to lead the way with just under 90,000 combined sales in today’s sales flash – more than doubling its sales overnight.

The record is well on its way to beating the first week numbers of his last studio album The Next Day, which logged 94,000 sales in its opening week in March 2013.

Meanwhile, a further thirteen of the superstar’s albums are on course to re-enter the Top 100, six of which have broken into the Top 40 already based on sales up to midnight last night. Three are retrospectives: 2014’s Nothing Has Changed is on course to re-enter at Number 7, his 1969/1974 Best Of (released in 1997) is at 13 and 2002’s Best Of Bowie rides at 27.

His 1972 album, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, currently rests at Number 19, 1972’s Hunky Dory is at 20, and 1973’s Aladdin Sane sits at 32.

Another seven Bowie records have landed just outside the Top 40 on today’s latest sales flash: Low and The Next Day are hovering at Numbers 42 and 44 respectively, and 1974’s Diamond Dogs is at 51. The Top 100 as of today is completed by Heroes (62), Best Of 1980/1987 (63), Let’s Dance (81), and Station To Station (99).

Over on the Official Singles Chart, Bowie has nine entries in the Top 100, three which are currently inside the Top 40: 1977’s Heroes is at 25 (and could beat its previous Number 24 peak by Friday), Life On Mars is at 34, and Starman is currently at Number 35.

Another two of his songs are currently just outside the Top 40: Let’s Dance at 43 and Space Oddity at 48.

Further down, Lazarus (86), Under Pressure (87), Ashes To Ashes (90) and Changes (94) are also inside the Top 100.

We’ll be updating Bowie’s progress on the charts throughout the week on OfficialCharts.com. All final positions will be revealed here and on BBC Radio 1 on Friday, January 15 between 4pm and 5.45pm.

Robbie could live another 40-50 years though

His eventual death could see Angels reach No.1 though.

Fantastic to see those 5 Bowie singles as his highest 5, probably my favourite five songs by him as well

Listening to Starman at the moment, incredible track

Elton, definitely. As much as I am not a fan, I could see there being a huge reaction to Robbie Williams.

I imagine Elton would get quite a few songs in the top 40 if he died, with 'Tiny Dancer' probably being the highest actually (even though it originally wasn't even a single!! and only has a #70 peak from the advert last year)

'Tiny Dancer' would definitely re-peak but I'd imagine people would get behind 'Candle in the Wind' for obvious reasons.

If any of the Spice Girls ever die, i'd like it if Viva Forever went back to number one or if Goodbye became a million seller.

He completely ruined that song in 1997. Why he changed it from being a song about Marilyn Monroe to Princess Di I'll never know. I don't think people would go for it again - it's been an elegy twice before, wouldn't need to be again.

(I would guess the charts will have been rendered obsolete by the time he goes anyway)

Bowie catalogue breaks into charts

by Coral Williamson

A huge jump in sales of Bowie albums and singles has pushed the late star's catalogue into the Official Charts.

Latest album Blackstar was already at No.1 in yesterday's midweeks, but sales have more than doubled overnight to 86,687.

Elsewhere in the Albums Chart, The Best Of 1969/1974 sits just outside the Top 10 at No.13, on sales of 6,119. The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust (No.19) and Hunky Dory (No.20) make it into the Top 20, shifting 3,952 and 3,871 copies respectively.

Best Of Bowie and Aladdin Sane are also in the Top 40, while a further seven albums are in the Top 100.

In the Singles Chart, Bowie's Heroes has jumped to No.25, on sales of 8,787, and could beat its previous peak of No.24. Life On Mars (No.34) and Starman (No.35) have broken into the Top 40 on sales of 7,313 and 7,300.

Another two of his songs are just outside the Top 40, with Let’s Dance at No.43 and Space Oddity at No.48.

ARE YOU FROM DUNDEE????

I'm in Dundee. Good to know there are fellow Dundonians here!

Yah I think charts will be irrelevant by then too :/

Tinie Dancer would be biggest. I wonder if it will always be a low-peaking song to get the big boost.

But theese convos are quite morbid haha

There were a few Bowie back catalogue albums still available in my local hmv, but they were stocking up on Blackstar while I was in there so i'm guessing they had sold out
it'll be interesting to see how high these bowie tracks get by friday~
