Scissor Sisters score chart-topping double

Source: Music Week

The Scissor Sisters knocked Justin Timberlake off the top of the singles chart a fortnight ago, and complete the double this week by replacing him at the album apex, writes Alan Jones.

Their second album Ta-Dah had a superb first week in the shops, selling 288,167 copies - that is the second highest weekly sale so far in 2006, being beaten only by The Arctic Monkeys’ Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, which raced to an opening tally of 363,735 in January.

I Don’t Feel Like Dancing, the first single from Ta-Dah, remains at the top of the singles chart for the third week in a row, with sales of 42,310. The only other act to simultaneously top the singles and albums chart this year is Gnarls Barkley who did so 21 weeks ago, with the single Crazy and the album St. Elsewhere.

Ta-Dah spurred album sales to increase by 10.3% week-on-week to 2,580,556 - their highest level for seven weeks and their 10th best tally in 38 weeks thus far in 2006 but 5% below the same week in 2005, when David Gray’s Life In Slow Motion was number one with sales of 71,599.

Ta-Dah’s first week sales were more than 13 times those of The Scissor Sisters’ self-titled debut album, which debuted at number 11 in 2004 on sales of 21,395.

It also easily eclipses the highest weekly sale of its predecessor - 183,710 when at number three in the last week of 2004 - but it will have to sell long and well to beat the to date sales tally of The Scissor Sisters, which was just 211 sales short of the 2.5m mark at the close of business last Saturday.

Im hopeful, but not 100% confident that it will. I just hope it does better than Keanes follow up!

These are fantastic sales  and I haven't even had a chance to buy my copy yet

although im a big keane fan also i do think the scissors will easily outsell them on the 2nd album,i know it was neck and neck with them on sales of there debuts,

the keane album doesnt have alot of promo going either with the lead singer been in rehab, the scissors are getting great promo etc and look set to be number 1 again next sunday,i hope they sell at least another 100,000 this week

I'm sure they'll sell more than 100k this week :) and well deserved too.

I didn't buy the 1st Keane album - but did buy Under The Iron Sea, which is great. Howevr I don't think it will get close to the sale of TaDah this time.

i have the 2 keane albums plus a live album but there first studio album is far better than the 2nd i think, but yes i agree ta dah will well outsell the 2nd keane album

Have both Keane albums and both Scissors albums. Both groups' first albums are their best.Ta-Dah will wipe the floor with Under The Iron Sea.
