Fin & Rose were about to be executed, then the ship tore the other ship apart, then cut back to Fin & Rose remaining in the centre whilst every single one of the hundreds upon hundreds of foes had pretty much been decimated

all the ships being blown up but the one wih Leia and all the main characters still safe and sound. Was it the only ship that landed onto that planet?? Sure it's technically possible but goddamnit...

 

I feel Star Wars involves a lot of deus ex machina more than most films :lol:

YES!!! It was just entirely unbelievable - albeit within an unbelievable setting in the first place.

It also bugged me that the woman who stayed behind on the ship waited so long watching them all get blown up one by one before finally deciding to do something about it!

 

I don't think anybody should ever try to attach logic or credibility to a Star Wars film as it'll just ruin the fun. That said, there were parts of Last Jedi that really stretched my suspension of disbelief

Having now seen the film again I can definitely say that I found it much more enjoyable second time around. The jokes weren't as annoying and knowing what was coming allowed me to read the clues much better than before. It's certainly not the usual Star Wars fare but within the saga it really works as a study on its central theme of failure, as well as its musings on hope, inspiration and new beginnings.

I really wasn't sure after the first viewing but it's a much deeper film than pretty much all the others in the franchise and handles its' characters internal conflicts and journeys with appropriate consideration. It still has a number of flaws of course but I initially placed it 'down there' with Revenge Of The Sith but it's a much better film than any of the prequels, better than the admittedly, more fun Force Awakens and on a par with Return Of The Jedi.

 

I really like it now.
