Another single now (and it's not Applause again :nocheer:). The second single from Born This Way, Judas is out. Before the single was released it was described as "a highly evolved, Titanium-plated ‘Bad Romance’ from the year 2511 travelling half a millennium back in time to save music from a tidal wave of ‘in the club’-obsessed pop drivel"... while this might not have been totally accurate, the comparisons to 'Bad Romance' were correct as the song is the closest to that monster hit sonically. It uses the metaphor of Judas to describe a girl in love with someone that has betrayed her and more deeply it refers to negative aspects of one's life that are inescapable. I enjoy the song, but for me it is the video that makes this a classic - one of my favourite Gaga videos through all the lavish costumes, set designs and choreographies. It wasn't the biggest of chart successes but I don't think it was ever going to be given the religious connotations and the fact that radio weren't totally on board. I think it's quite forgotten among her singles now at least for casual listeners but it's done decently(ish) here!

i remember when i first heard it and had such low expectations after 'born this way' and it hit me like a stream-train. i can never understand to this day why it is as under-appreciated as it is.

 

it is everything i want from gaga - it is crazy, brash and brilliant pop; the fact you guys would rather have 'applause' and 'born this way' is entirely alien to me.

Sexxx Dreams, Heavy Metal Lover and especially Judas are all such jams. Judas is definitely up there with her absolute best!

The chorus is indeed the weakest part of the song for me actually. I don't really know why, I still enjoy it, but the other parts are total killer.

Judas should have been about 10 places higher :( Easily one of my favourite Gaga tracks and an epic and incredible pop gem with one of the best videos in recent years :wub:

Agree that Judas is (one of) her best song(s). It's way too low here, what a belter, should at least be top 10.

Yeah, the chorus of 'Judas' is a slight dampener on it but I still love the song. Agreed it's leaps and bounds above 'Applause' and 'Born This Way' at least.

That's exactly the problem with it. Video is great, verses are some of Gaga's best, bridge is fine, chorus is like you've been transported back to Stock Aitken & Waterman and is absolutely awful. It's particularly jarring as the bombast of the production in the verses fades away and just the tinny chorus remains.

The Steps-lite tinny chorus is SO JARRING!! Just like Bloody Mary and a few others on the album which are Steps-lite.

YAAAAS :cheer: Coming in at #15 is another album track from BTW, the absolutely fabulous dance-pop Scheiße! This features some faux-German lyrics (my friends ask if I understand them- no I don't -_- ) and of course is a FEMINIST ANTHEM. Gaga wanted this to be released as a single, but sadly her record company would not let her so this was released an an album track (despite this, it still ended up charting on a few charts :magic: !). A video for this would've been incredible :( Here's a live performance of this from the BTWball (I was at this particular date yaaas)
