UK chart run. 168 in yesterday's midweeks, so could possibly hold one one more week. Great shame it didn't really get any radio airplay in the UK, there was clearly some interest for the song bubbling under.

I find it pretty frustrating how uk radio doesn't support her. I guess I should just get over it - it's been like that for a while. She always does interviews for radio 1 and they don't respect that with even a couple of plays of the song everyday day. The lack of radio support and promotion means a lot of people dot even know there's a new amazing album out. Let's hope some up coming promo in London helps.

The UK chart run makes me sigh. When you see the same old songs clogging up the UK Top 40 for months on end, it's frustrating to see such a great song flounder with a #42 peak and spending the majority of its time in the 101-200 area. It deserved so much more. It's fresh/modern and would fit in well in heavily rotated playlists.

The main problem seems to be the fact it's by Britney Spears. It honestly seems UK radio is refusing to support her on those grounds, which means she can't win, whatever song she comes out with. She was essentially treated as being "past it" around the moment she turned 30, which really is a great shame because... well you've only got to look at Madonna. Imagine if Madonna had been abandoned in her 30s? All those huge hits she achieved at ages older than Britney currently is. Or Jennifer Lopez, whose music career didn't even start until she was 30?

I think Britney's seen as being older than she actually is, because of the length of her music career (18 years since her debut). While I'm tempted to put it down to ageism, particularly with female artists, admittedly there is the odd exception. Sia churning out hits at 40. Although I think the difference here is that Sia's major breakthrough came in 2012 - so she seems like a fresh/current artist, despite her age. If she'd been consistently huge in the early 2000s, perhaps she wouldn't be given the time of day nowadays.

I agree with you Jay, sadly I think it's harder for females to get support as they get older, as they're seen as past it, which is crazy as Britney has proved this era that she's still firmly in her prime. Sia and Beyoncé are examples of "older" (lol at them being seen as old...) women who are getting plenty of support still, so it really irritates me when Britney is considered as "past it". Make Me... wouldn't sound out of place at all on the radio, and if Anne-Marie or Dua Lipa released it, Radio 1 wouldn't be able to get enough of it. Sigh :(
^ So true. :( It just makes me feel a bit deflated about this era, like when we're discussing what the best future single choices would be, because... it just seems that whatever song she chooses at this point, the outcome will be roughly the same regardless (particularly in the UK where I can easily see her picking up a few more "non-Top 200" singles).
I agree and I find that it's just sad that even when an artist adapts their style to something that sounds made for radio, but still fresh radio just can't look past their "nostalgia act" box. The literal only way to get radio to see past this is if a song starts smashing on its own, which is very difficult.
Or if she just aggressively promoted for two weeks in the U.K...

Promo doesn't work as well as it does in the UK without airplay to back it up. If something is already getting airplay, promo helps a lot, but with no airplay, the songs only get very brief boosts.

I'd say her European chart perfomance in general is disheartening, not just the UK. She definitely seems to be over, at least singles wise. Streaming and strict radio playlists arent doing her any favors.

Cant remember the last time I heard a current Britney song on portuguese radio. I'll hear Oops! and Baby from time to time, but its been very quiet. If you exclude Scream & Shout and Til The World Ends that got extensive play, I think I'd have to go back to the ITZ era to find a time she truly ruled the charts and radio over here. Such a shame.

it's actually really sad to see, but at the same time it's completely understandable and unavoidable with the way her last few albums have been handled. i'd love to see her reach the heights she did with ITZ but she seems to be over actually chasing hits these days so i suppose we just go along with that and accept she never will again.

I don't think it's quite at the point where I would give up yet. If it was like Charli XCX or Carly Rae, I'm like YES, release what the fans want. But if she had not released the biggest non-event music video of her career, and the song had stabilised higher on iTunes for a bit longer it would have done better with radio (and it didn't do terribly really, MUCH better than Pretty Girls and more longevity than Work Bitch). Make Me still got much more success than an Xtina or Jlo release would get these days. I do think with a carefully selected second single, that the public can easily get behind, a bit of promo and a video that has some re-watchability value, she can still get a hit.

Z100 played 'Make Me' 3 times yesterday after not playing it for 3 days! Iheart radio performance obviously helping keep the song afloat at the moment. But, at least that's good news!

Z100 have actually been playing it quite a lot all week actually, which surprises me! More than Kiis, who always played it more.

It did! Just. I updated the chart run yesterday. 54k sold lol.
let's hope after Apple festival, she'll be back in top 100...lol who knew that one day we will be asking for Britney single 'only' to be back in top 100!!
Idk why they thought that shitty casting idea was ever good.

It was a bigger mistake than Britney Jean and Pretty Girls.

The way it "still exists" though *.*

Hope we see it at some point!
