February 21, 20169 yr On a slightly different note (but which was raised here in the beginning of this lovely evening drama), I always reshuffle songs in the semi/final so if the order really affects the ranks I give (which I hope it doesn't!) it at least affects in a different way to the others. :magic: (But seriously, I read so much about the orders and how they affect the results that I genuinely do it!)

February 22, 20169 yr I think a laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarge hard dose of perspective here is needed, and by a fair few people at that. BJSC is more than just where you finish. It's a way to discover new music. The whole point of the veto is to pull out tracks that so many people know and love that are entered purely to get a 'hit'. The result, while fun, is completely and utterly secondary to the music. When you start thinking of the result first you lose the connection with the spirit of the contest. Once you get a grip and actually just send something you absolutely LOVE you tend not to give a shit about points and care more about the fact that three people who didn't know this song you bloody love now love it too. If you stop listening to music and thinking 'does this sound like a BJSC entry' or 'will this be a hit in BJSC' then you find yourself sending whatever the f*** you love and you get far more out of this. The reason I'm still here into year 9 is because of the music. Not because I won this one time or because I'm determined to win at any and all cost. Of the past couple of years, the songs I've been proudest of were 5 Fine Frøkner, Envole Moi, Colour Me Dirty, Mitt Liv Är Mitt and Alone. All songs I absolutely adored and entered just because I was head over heels. I never heard MLÄM and thought 'this has BJSC winner stamped ALL over it'. I entered it because I couldn't get it out of my head, the fact that it won was an amazing bonus. With 5FF I entered a track I'd been in love with for a while but was falling in love with all over again and STILL haven't stopped playing on repeat! (It's currently playing as i type this)

It's sad that the contest is so focused on success these days and I can see how it would drive some away, it's a music discovery contest and should be used to discover you wouldn't already know and I always go by that when sending my entries, the contest element makes it fun but it shouldn't take away from that (it's why I prefer Unknown Pleasures and would occasionally like one contest where elements of that are used here, but that's a different discussion~). Hell, DNQing is actually good for you sometimes, it can make you realise that you can't always qualify and thus take a bit more of a laid back approach to selecting entries ie. not selecting them because they're an obvious hit and you need to stick that sound to keep your Q streak up, but selecting them because you love them and want more people to be introduced to it, or because you just wanna take a risk and send something completely left field and out there just to see everyone's responses, f*** it, who cares if it bombs, it's different! I prefer that approach. February 22, 20169 yr I do actually genuinely send stuff that I think will do well but it's stuff that I actually chart and love. I mean my current entry into BJSC has been #1 in my own chart for 3 weeks. I haven't liked a song this much in quite a while so for it to qualify would be good anyway like Silas said. Also while I thought it was a discovery for most people at first about 3 days before the semis open I found out a few people already know the song and it is always a little disappointing if it isn't a new discovery.

February 22, 20169 yr Well this has already been a disaster for me and that would be the perfect way to add insult to injury. I mean, this is my favorite entry in a while and some tagged it as one of my best and it's being set to do the worst for me. I better storm Rejects if so. I honestly feel like I've been sabotaged. I'm set last of the entire thing, I'm in the strongest semi to date, and my entry has basically been ignored. H Kamhla is me fave ever and flopped in a dance semi <_< You have 8 qualifications and loadaa top 10s so you can take risks!
February 22, 20169 yr Yes at some Pagasa love, cool, understated tracks all-too-often get missed in favour of the in-yer-face loudy shouty entries! :cheer: It's all a bit of fun, BJSC, just enjoy, I get loads of great records from it each and every competition and my heart sings with joy and excitement when one goes all the way to top my charts :yahoo: I don't care if I come last (just as well this edition :lol: ) as long as it's different, though I do enjoy being surprised seeing which ones do click and my recent streak on making the finals was great fun!
