I'm so thankful for the Bake Off final lead for the Doctor Foster finale and getting it over 10m - that's honestly the best rating I've seen for a non-continuous drama (by that I mean something that's no designed to be an ongoing series like Call the Midwife or Downton etc.). It performed spectacularly regardless of that boost though, definitely agree that it was aided by word-of-mouth which is again an incredible achievement to get people talking that much about a drama.

A lowest rating of 6m is very good going for Corrie. Certainly helps that it rarely ever clashes with anything significant and has the highest % of older viewers watching.

Tbf, an average of 7.8m isn't as disastrous for X Factor as I thought, particularly when you look at some of the overnights. Clearly a huge fall from grace though, which is only highlighted further by the fact Strictly is still going strong and the format for that is hardly fresh either.

09 | 11 | The Voice UK - 8.48m | Highest = 10.10m (Ep. 6/15), Lowest = 6.82m (Ep. 13/15)

10 | 14 | Silent Witness - 8.29m | Highest = 8.59m (Ep. 1/10), Lowest = 7.83m (Ep. 8/10)

Silent Witness is still performing extremely well, with its 18th series last year being one of its most successful. It is a crime drama which on a team of forensic pathology experts and their investigations into various crimes and each story is split over two episodes. For what is most likely the first time, The Voice UK manages to beat The X Factor in the overall series ratings. Both featured Rita Ora last year but she only managed to help The Voice to increase its ratings. Stevie McCrorie managed to win, becoming the fourth winner with little success.

07 | 09 | Death in Paradise - 8.60m | Highest = 9.10m (Ep. 7/8), Lowest = 8.30m (Ep. 8/8)

08 | RE | Broadchurch - 8.59m | Highest = 10.40m (Ep. 1/8), Lowest = 7.57m (Ep. 5/8)

Broadchurch is one of ITV's biggest new dramas and, after having viewers hooked on Who Killed Danny Latimer? in 2013, it returned for the middle part of a proposed trilogy. This time it focused on events of the trial for Danny Latimer's killer as well as focusing on an unresolved case of DI Alex Hardy's past. Death in Paradise continued to give more of the same, with a new murder on a Carribean island taking place in each episode which results in an Agatha Christie reveal each time. The show continues to increase in popularity though.

Ah so Broadchurch didn't really perform as disastrously as made out then!

I've never watched Death in Paradise but am I right in saying it's like a comedy drama? Always performs extremely well for what I perceive it to be.

Ha at The Voice doing better than The X Factor, really puts it into perspective!

Silent Witness is like Doctor Who in the sense it has been on for years but still pulls in similar ratings throughout the years.

Britain's Got Talent is still going strong as it increased its series average last year where it gave us the latest winner, Jules and Matisse, and, most importantly, Lorraine Bowen. I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! is another long running ITV reality show that shows no signs of holding up. Last year saw its FIFTEENTH series on air, giving us a new reality TV icon in Lady Colin Campbell. The series also helped advance the careers of Vicky Pattison, Ferne McCann and George Shelley, causing the latter to leave Union J.

04 | 06 | Downton Abbey - 9.67m | Highest = 10.49m (Ep. 9/9), Lowest = 9.03m (Ep. 3/9)

Downton Abbey aired its final series last year to increased ratings. The period drama has been a phenomenon across the world since it debuted in 2010 and it became ITV's highest rated series last year. It aired its final episode on Christmas Day. Call the Midwife is another hugely successful drama, the highest on this year's list. It focuses on a group of midwives in the early 1960s, exploring a wide range of social and political issues.

02 | 03 | Strictly Come Dancing - 10.52m | Highest = 12.47m (Ep. 27/27), Lowest = 8.48m (Ep. 5/27)

Strictly Come Dancing is still the giant of Saturday night TV, standing strong after 13 series on air. This year saw Aliona Vilani win the show for a second time (the only professional to do so) with another boyband member. It also saw Anton Du Beke in the final for the first time, after competing in every series. The Great British Bake Off continued to increase its ratings with its sixth series, marking it the first to make the programme the highest rated series of the year. There was no competition in the end, with it being nearly 2m higher than second place, helped by the finale being the most watched event last year with 15m viewers! We cannot get enough of the Bake Off and last year, the nation all got behind the eventual winner, Nadiya as her unique facial reactions and modesty as well as her excellent baking charmed us all. It was all topped off by a inspirational winners speech.

Thanks for doing this over the last couple weeks. Maybe the BBC's critics should look at that top two. What other broadcaster would have taken the risk with two such unlikely programme ideas?

Just seeing this now - the best thing on TV in 2015 was 8 Out of 10 Cat's Does Countdown.
