I miss the days when the Sport Relief single would be an event, regardless of whether I like James Bay it's just an old album track.

I feel the same about Children In Need and Comic Relief, I can't remember the last big single for either of these. I hate it when artists just release an album track as the official singles :(

Last years Sam/John was just a lazy effort and as much as I love Jess I was annoyed she just released an album track as the CIN single...

I miss the days of those surprise hits such as the Peter Kay efforts from 2005 and 2007...

The last one was 'Word Up!' wasn't it? :(

It used to bring a bit of fun novelty pop in the charts around this time of year. I miss that.

Both Comic and Sport Relief haven't been making much of an effort these days with choosing a song, even last year with Comic Relief, it was just a new version of a song that already existed with an additional vocalist and nothing much changed. I guess they're most focused on the artists as they figure these will sell/stream better due to the artists and cover versions/'comedy' ones just don't sell that well any more (and would stream even worse).

2016 - ?? - James Bay ~ Running (Acoustic)

hopefully james bay becomes only the 2nd to miss the top10~

yeah, thing about the streaming era is that if a charity single is to have a long chart life it has to actually be something worth listening to. Which is a good thing imo, we don't need songs like JLS 'Proud' or Little Mix 'Word Up' in the chart.

I haven't heard this James Bay song but I can't imagine it'll do that greatly, with it being an album track so far into the era - though it being a new version will help it to at least chart.

Some Girls >>>>> those other ones tbh.

100% agree  Still a massive anthem 12 years on

Only don't really like Proud from the list (not heard James Bay's one though)

it's still going to chart regardless - I hope it charts high just for the sake of shaking up the charts :heehee:
I had no idea most of those had anything to do with Sport Relief - I'm guessing most of them were lined up to be singles anyway and then linked to Sport Relief shortly before release.

I get why they'd want those big new artists for their charity singles, that's a wise move but when Comic Relief/Children In Need just throwing an album track out there with a charity tag is becoming the norm, it's like come on now, lol (at least Word Up!/Proud were 'new' tracks). I suppose on the other hand the more "special"/novelty singles don't sell like they used to, sure you could get Gareth Malone to pull a choir out of his ass and you'd have an easy #1 hit on your hands, but its shelf life would be pretty miniscule. But at least there was some EFFORT there dammit!

There really was no bettering this piece of pop perfection hence why the tedious album tracks and lazy choices!

I remember that chart well as it was The Shapeshifters that stopped her going to number one...
