According to a source close to the bash, Billboard have been desperate to sign Britney up after she performed at last year's show with Iggy Azalea. "Everyone knows Britney brings in massive ratings, so it was a no-brainer for producers to try and get her on board," the source explained to Daily Star Online. "With her new single dropping a couple of days before the show timing couldn't be more perfect. BRITNEY’S INVITE: Producers of the 2016 Billboard Music Awards are hoping to land Planet Hollywood headliner Britney Spears for their ABC telecast from the new T-Mobile Arena on May 22 so that she can debut her new single, “Make Me (Oooh).” But there are a lot of logistics and times to be resolved before any final decision, so the official status as of today is “nothing can be confirmed or denied at this time.” Producers are trying to adjust telecast plans in an effort to figure out a way for Britney to attend and perform.
May 2, 20169 yr Performance confirmed by Billboard just now. She will be performing a medley of her Greatest Hits and there are rumours of the new single debuting at the awards show. Britney is also being given the Millennium Award.

May 3, 20169 yr Author Do you guys realize this is her first performance at an award show in 5 years? And this is the first time she has premiered a single with a live performance in 15 years?!? With the music video set to be released the same week (or following week, one of those is almost for certain) AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF ITS WITH A MEDLEY AND AN ICON AWARD. If this doesn't send her to the top of the charts I'm not sure WHAT will. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS AS FANS SINCE 2004. My only regret is that Luciano isn't here to witness this with all of us. :(
