No new Coldplay album for five years?

DigitalSpy.com

Coldplay may not release a new album for the next five years, the Daily Star claims today.

Chris Martin was overheard discussing the decision with friends after performing with Jay-Z at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday night.

"It's going to be a long, long time before you hear a new album from us," he explained. "We've done a few things, but we're all enjoying having families at the moment. If it takes five years for us to feel ready to record something new, then so be it. We need plenty of time to let it come together organically."

Any Comments?

5 years. :o I don't think it will be that long but I do think it'll be another two years at the least. :(

I don't think the source of the original information though is very reliable. ^_^

if we have to wait 5 years for a new album it would want to be amazing to wait so long, maybe he meant 5 years since time of x and y was released that would leave it about 3 years or so until a new album,if a long gap is coming i would suggest a greatest hits with b sides and rarities with at least 1 new track to keep fans happy
i agree scotty they need at least one more album before attempting a GH...but five years is ever so long

A greatest Hits after only 3 albums is a no no :nono:

I agree, 1 maybe 2 more albums first :D

but to keep th efans happy it might work if they added some bonus material like rare songs and b sides along with there hit singles

I think I can remember reading about this in Q magazine, shortly after 'X & Y' was released. I think Martin said that 'X & Y' would be the last. But then, that was a while ago now, so he may have changed his mind

He'd have been worse than mad to stop releasing albums... especially seeing as how Coldplay have gathered quite a following!

i agree, but i guess if they need a break they will just take it,they have plenty of money now so they can be with there families for a while and probably work slowly on a new 4th studio album

Yeah!

Out of curiosity, have you seen them live? The X & Y tour I went to last Christmas was friggin' awesome... everyone waved their mobile phones during 'Fix You' :D

No GH, please !

maybe 5 years after X&Y release...

btw, I don't believe this...

At early 2006 he said he wanted to release a new album on late 2006/early 2007 and then take a long break.

Then before summer, he said the band wanted to wait a bit longer.

Then on early summer, they said they planned studio session for the new album to be released quite soon.

then they said they had new songs and they wanted to record them.

then the webmatse of Coldplay.com said the new album was posponed to early/mid 2007 and then the break...

And so on...

I really don't know why they not confirm the dvd release, tho' !

Hmmmm, obviously they are fickle. Some new material even next year would be very welcome..

NO to a Greatest Hits <_< They're a serious band, not a manufactured band who need to cash in  They need to be around for at least 10 years before releasing a GH imo.

Coldplay have announced that they are taking a break for recording new material for what could be a long period of time.

The band's frontman Chris Martin has admitted that the members are enjoying time off to spend with their respective families and are not looking to release any new records in the near future.

He said: "It's going to be a long, long time before you hear a new album from us. We've done a few things, but we're all enjoying having families at the moment.
