May 31, 20169 yr I remember White Stripes being number 2 and even getting close to number 1 at first, seems utterly surreal these days and it was post downloads! Taking advantage of a quite woeful sales environment then, not very reflective at all as it's not even close to their other classics. Some faves starting to fall out :( Little By Little is amazing, one of modern Oasis' best and Proper Education is a great remix of a classic song. One Step Closer was one of the defining songs of my childhood too (and is still a tune tbf).

Starting off is Leona Lewis with 'Happy' which was widely tipped on Buzzjack to be a #1 but ultimately missed out thanks to the UK public having taste a performance on X Factor by Black Eyed Peas. I wish I was here at the time to lol at that. Another X Factor contestant just above, Amelia Lily famously was eliminated from The X Factor but then ""surprisingly"" was voted to return when the show announced it was bringing someone back. Her career got off to an okay start with this but everything afterwards was a bit of a flop. Red Hot Chilli Peppers back when they were still cool enough to be supported by Radio 1 had quite a good single in 'Dani California' which went to #2. Probably one of my faves from them actually. Remember when T.I. was actually a relevant rapper? Well this song got him a huge US #1 and was very big in the UK too which is 100% because of the O-Zone (Icons) sample. Jason Derulo had a run of massive hits back in 2010, the biggest of which was probably 'Ridin Solo' although it peaked one place lower than previous single 'Just Dance'. Sonique had one of the biggest singles of 2000 with the brilliant 'It Feels So Good'. The follow-up sadly doesn't live up to the quality of her breakthrough but it got enough people on board to get it to #2. Madonna continued having hits in the 00s despite her age, though some of them were quite forgettable. Such as 'American Life' which just makes the top half of the rundown, perhaps helped by her big fanbase on the site. The Darkness were involved in one big battle for the Christmas number one but lost to the brilliant 'Mad World'. It's still great to hear every Christmas anyway. Fall Out Boy made a song which was far better than anything they had done previously and they were rewarded with a UK #2. Good for them I guess, song isn't bad. Infernal had one of the biggest dance smashes of the mid-00s with the catchy 'From Paris To Berlin'. Whilst its production is far from the best heard in dance music, it is a fairly bangin' song.

In honour of its boringness I will be making the rest of this paragraph of commentary as boring as possible. Coldplay are a band. 'In My Place' is a song. The song charted in the UK at #2. Embrace follow Coldplay, both musically and that they're next in the rundown with the surprisingly good for an indie MoR song 'Nature's Law'. If it was released by Coldplay it would probably be more remembered too. Steps appear twice in the section with two double A-sides (they really loved double A-sides). Neither are brilliant unsurprisingly. Duke Dumont's 'Won't Look Back' was very much at the time mocked for its release date (being ridiculously pushed back) but got a fairly good reaction in terms of song quality. Although his two #1s were a lot lot better. Pussycat Dolls 'Beep' is probably my favourite song by them, I hoped and expected it would do better in this. Charlotte Church 'Crazy Chick' was quite good, I never realised that she actually released follow-ups though (3 of them went top 20). Not that I'm rushing to listen to them. Kevin Lyttle 'Turn Me On' is a proper jam and one of the big urban songs of the early 00s so good to see it get some appreciation here. 'Baby Boy' is one of my faves from early Beyoncé too, of course helped by the presence of Sean de Paul *.* Bastille top this section with Corona cover 'Of The Night'. It actually sounds better than it looks, it's still no 'Pompeii' though which is still to come.
June 1, 20169 yr In My Place is Coldplay's best song by miles (it's between that or Violet Hill). 2 of my 11's in that section! Turn Me On is one the best songs to hear in a club
June 1, 20169 yr 'Won't Look Back' is still for me easily the best thing Duke Dumont has done, and will take a lot to beat it. Charlotte Church's is great, and Kevin Lyttle is a guilty pleasure.
June 1, 20169 yr 150-141 BPj6CMjUrDU 6.42 150 Leona Lewis – Happy I wanted this to win (obviously). :( Take Me to Church to win.
June 1, 20169 yr DAN NO, In My Place is gorgeous  Though their two #2s were definitely the weakest singles from both albums, should've been The Scientist or Clocks instead of this one. Nature's Law is lovely too, should be much higher, though top 150 isn't too bad for a virtually forgotten song.
June 1, 20169 yr In My Place was really good! (Although not as good as Clocks or The Scientist). I'm relieved that Won't Look Back finished in the top half, very underrated song. Edited June 2, 20169 yr by Taylor Jago
June 1, 20169 yr Author 130-121 z5LW07FTJbI 6.69 121 S Club 7 - Two In A Million / You're My Number One 6.68 122 Madonna - Hollywood 6.68 123 Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger 6.67 124 Hozier - Take Me To Church 6.67 125 Busted - Year 3000 6.67 126 Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 6.64 127 Britney Spears feat. Madonna - Me Against The Music 6.60 128 Chris Malinchak – So Good To Me 6.59 129 Coldplay - Speed Of Sound 6.59 130 Zedd feat. Hayley Williams – Stay The Night Zedd for some reason got his #2 with 'Stay The Night' instead of the much better 'Clarity' which missed the top 20. That's always puzzled me. Though I guess that's what held-back releases can do for a song. Coldplay pop their head in again though this time with the better 'Speed Of Sound' which famously lost the #1 to a frog. This is one of the good classic Coldplay tunes anyway. Chris Malinchak gets a decent score although it's still so underrated in this forum. Seriously though it's such a lush song   You'd think a Britney and Madonna collab would be an easy #1 hit but actually it only made #2, proving name power alone can't get you a megasmash if the song is average. Madonna's own 'Hollywood' finishes a few places higher. Zombie Nation had a brilliant trance smash which I'd like to think is well-remembered. I guess it did well with the dance fans at least. It would be their only hit. Busted with what is probably their best song and a bit of a novelty jam in 'Year 3000' here, although sometimes I think it's annoying too so I guess it's done well for a song you'd expect to get a mixed reaction. You already know what I think about the Hozier song. Let's swiftly move on. Maroon 5 had a great song with 'Moves Like Jagger' which unfairly was denied #1, though it was hilarious to watch it get stuck at #2 week after week. It does well considering the hate it gets from many. S Club 7 finish the section with two songs I already forgot how they sounded like.
June 1, 20169 yr Are we going to have any commentary about what songs are getting 11s and -1s at any point? Is that when we get further into the top 100? Curious what songs are getting general love and which are a mixed bag. Great posts so far :D

Not sure what happened to her afterwards though, I never heard her follow-ups and they didn't go top 40. Another one hit wonder next, Lumidee brought a bangin' urban tune to the chart back in '03 and always sounds good in a 00s throwback session. Philip George got 2015 off to a bangin' start with 'Wish You Were Mine' but sadly it misses the top 100 in this rundown. Electric Six... yep that was a thing that actually happened. Jamelia really did have some forgettable songs amongst her decent ones, 'Thank You' falls into the forgettable category. 'Locked Out Of Heaven' has its fans here but I personally find it overrated, like most of Bruno Mars songs. Truesteppers were famously involved in a big chart battle, and one where the best song won too, meaning this is in the rundown of #2 singles. Mary J Bilge got a cover of a U2 hit as her highest charting song, which actually featured U2 themselves as well. It works very well as a duet anyway, I did like this a fair bit at the time. Mis-Teeq have another song much higher but for now they have 'All I Want' which has garage beatz and Alesha Dixon rapping *_* Adele finishes off with 'Skyfall' the theme to James Bond's 'Skyfall' where she famously came back faster, stronger, rollier than ever before. But only made #2.
June 2, 20169 yr danG, are you sure you never heard Mutya's followup with Groove Armada? Was a big hit in 2007 as well! 5xpZw3C1Tb8
June 2, 20169 yr Author I definitely heard that, I count it as a Groove Armada song though rather than a Mutya follow-up.

More electro house here in the form of 'Let Me Think About It', 'Yeah Yeah' and 'Satisfaction' all of which are top top tunes  Urban also very much represented which includes proper jams like 'Gold Digger' and 'Earthquake' which really should be higher. So close to the top 100 too :( Not just those but we also have RnB females Ashanti and Christina Milian. We don't get a lot of those these days. Missing the top 100 by one place is No Doubt. No huge loss there.
June 2, 20169 yr Day n Nite is probably one of my favourite songs of recent years, such a simple yet catchy tune. Earthquake and Gold Digger are both good songs I suppose, however I can't say I have a clue of any of the other songs and what they are, maybe it's me being young.
