June 20, 20169 yr When I saw Sturridge and Vardy in the starting lineup, I thought we went on a mission to score goals tonight, unfortunately they didn't perform, Sturridge came close at times, Vardy had a chance in the first half, but nothing came of. It was a game of pure frustration at times.
June 20, 20169 yr Jack Wilshire was SHOCKING. The #ITVcurse strikes again I notice... (we hardly ever win when the game is broadcast on ITV) Were they not unbeaten in qualifying and that was on ITV lol!
June 20, 20169 yr Strange that England bring 5 strikers dominate possession but have scored very little - have to find the right combination quickly - still more questions than answers for them but if they can solve that they can go as far as they want in my opinion - Def the most improved national side since the World Cup.
June 20, 20169 yr The one England game I'm around for and we're rubbish :( Hard to know what else we could've done as a lot of our usual go-to players like Sturridge, Vardy underperformed and all the chances were just thrown away by...clumsiness really. I'd give man of the match to the Slovakian goalkeeper, I agree. On another note, that bloody chant that the England fans were doing that lasted about twenty minutes was excruciating, I certainly wouldn't have been encouraged by that! :kink: Edited June 20, 20169 yr by Chez Wombat

Strikers are all good, and well, but if you don't create chances you don't score goals. Our midfield is way too slow in build-up play, and we don't have the technical caliber of Spain to play like this. Teams will let us dominate the ball because we don't create chances. I'm honestly miffed why we play 4-3-3 and then decide to have Kane as a wide forward... doesn't make any sense!!! Think it's obvious we want to play that system, but we don't have the right personnel.
June 21, 20169 yr I honestly have no idea where half of the players were meant to be playing last night. Bertrand was immensely disappointing on the left, can't wait for Shaw to be fit again. Henderson did his shuttling role well but offered little passing quality. Wilshere didn't look match fit. Vardy was almost anonymous once Slovakia dropped deep. Sturridge had a couple of bright moments but gave the ball away too often given how deep he was playing. On the other hand, it's a credit to Eric Dier that two of the best attacking midfielders in the competition have now both had very quiet games against us. I wouldn't be particularly worried about any of the teams we might play from Group F, the annoyance is now that we'll play France in the QFs.

June 21, 20169 yr Unless it's Portugal. Then I'd be worried. It wouldn't worry me much, already played them in a friendly match before the tournament, and at the moment Ronaldo is shooting blanks :D missed penalty and a disallowed goal. :D  My main worry will be playing France, Italy or Spain if we get through to the last eight, just fell in the wrong draw now as runners up of the group.
June 21, 20169 yr I would be less worried about Portugal compared to the team they had in 2004 + 2006.
June 23, 20169 yr Strikers are all good, and well, but if you don't create chances you don't score goals. Think it's obvious we want to play that system, but we don't have the right personnel. I know - Dier is englands best player this tournament imo defensive midfielder but is very technical and shows great incisiveness on the ball at the same time. Think England just just stick with Kane and Rooney upfront and have faith in them - Sturridge and Vardy can be lethal off the bench. and keep Delli Ali close to the front two as him and Kane know each others game so well.
