A bit of a sad day - I very grudgingly voted Remain - but not very surprising. The middle-class Establishment have spent so long shafting/ignoring the working-class, they can't be surprised when the working-class refuses to come running to save the middle-class's wealth when it's at risk. That's especially in the case when you throw in the element of foreign leaders (Obama especially) being perceived to "bully" the country.

Even if everybody finally realises how badly they've cocked this up, it will be too little, too late.

And Nigel Farage is an insufferable ****. "Victory for ordinary people, for decent people" and "June 23 should be a national holiday". Unspeakable cretin. If that is what being British is, I want nothing to do with it. I can drop my British nationality anyway, since I'm a dual national.

My condolences to you guys and it's a very bitter pill to everyone in the world. This is what you get when you start to follow populist trash. While I was strongly opposing a Scotland referendum before now I'll be for Scotland to leave the UK / Stay in EU.

This is not only could be the end of UK, even within England the nation is basically divided by two more or less equal parts, and there is an abyss between them now. It is extremely damaging for any country and it could face some worst consequences you could imagine. One half of country decided how the destiny of the other half. 52/48 split is very, very destructive in that sense.

I am totally shocked by the result. I had wrongly assumed the stay vote would win. I was so wrong in thinking this. I truly believe this is a disastrous result and will have terrible effects on the country.

The statement in its full glory. An excellent statement that is truly fitting of Scotland as a nation. Strong, measured, unifying, positive, inclusive and just so powerful.

I have to say, that was a refreshing piece to read. The message of inclusion and the sheer lack of a blame game (which feels so ... expected recently) is really wonderful to read. After this referendum campaign, all England and Wales are left with is a population filled with hate and convinced that everyone but themselves is to blame for their problems. Seeing Scotland declare its continued appreciation for its international friends in contrast is a mood-lifter. There's no cowardly scapegoating there, and no hatred.

Scotland comes out of this looking so good. If you ever wanted an international reputation boost it can't get much better than "Our closest neighbours are massive racists, but we're actually not!", and I don't think anyone can begrudge Scottish independence now. So much respect for the Scottish public being smart enough to avoid being manipulated like the English and Welsh were.

I agree with this. I realise it would not seem the most democratic thing ever but I really felt the referendum should have required a much more extreme majority to go through, something like 60/40 at the very least. It's too big a decision to be made without a country being emphatically behind it.

just goes to show lots of people didn't do their research and just went with what the sun/daily mail told them to ://

Yep, and you just can't argue with the figures the financial times have provided here, it's not just some opinion. The frustration continues. I wonder how many leavers already regret their vote?

I feel sad for the "Leave" voters when all the support they can get outside of the UK is from people like Donald Trump and Marine Le Pen.

How are you feeling about a Frexit? Marine scares me.

I'm impressed. Wish Portugal had the balls to do the same.

Why? Do Portugal blame the EU for their irrelevance?
