Just Stand Up, Mama and Something New are my favourites, and Military Wives. I'm probably one of the few who bought it because I genuinely enjoy listening to the song, I think it was lovely that it was a (very good) original and not an uninspired cover/mash-up fail.

Wasn't there a Christmas single released in the Pop Idol years too that I seem to recall?

Never mind I found it, but I'm unsure if it was used for a charity unless someone can confirm?

The Idols – Happy Xmas (The War Is Over) {#5 in 2003}

Do They Know It's Christmas (original 1984 version) is my favourite, gives me chills every time the 'feed the world' lines start, however cheesy/questionable the lyrics are. You just don't get all star ensemble records like that anymore.

I do love Amarillo too, has so much ingenuity and fun of Comic Relief in there as well as an iconic video (ignoring Jimmy Saville's part in it :x), it's a shame as a lot of what's seen there is gone in official comic relief singles these days and they tend to be very low effort and unmemorable in general.

Special mention for Peter Kay's Animated All Star Band - Children in Need single for 2009 as well, as a song it's not great, but the video is one of the best I've ever seen (somehow not on Youtube anymore).

'Hands' has really come up the rankings in my affections. Quite safely up there with 'Just Stand Up' as my favourite charity single <3

I get a funny feeling that we may be due another "all star" charity single soon...

Who would you like to see feature and what famous song should they murder?

(Also I think this topic should be moved to The Lounge).

I'm not so sure.

Now that streaming is included and songs have to actually be listenable to do well (in the past people just bought charity singles for the cause but didn't listen to them), I can't see charity collectives continuing to be a thing.

Related, I think if they did another Band Aid cover in 2024 it'd miss #1, I think they should wait for 2034 to capitalise on the 50 year anniversary - but by then download sales would be non existent.

Spice Girls - Who Do You Think You Are

Leona Lewis - Footprints In The Sand

Taylor Swift - Ronan

Added to the opening thread, albeit it did not have any chart impact in the UK.

Does anyone know if last years X Factor Winners single sale proceeds went to a charity or have they stopped that tradition now?

They did, and have done since 2012.
