Not that. He attacked it and contradicted it on multiple, multiple occasions.

And yet like Iz said, socialism is wildly popular and so are Corbyn's policies when stripped of their names. The only reason why the country is what it is? The extreme right media. They pushed the Overton window AND WILL KEEP PUSHING. What's right now will be left soon.

You're the only person I've ever heard refer to this 'Overton Window' so it is certainly not in mainstream usage. Besides, the political scale always swings back & forth over periods of years & decades. The answer to winning elections when your opponent is perceived to be becoming more extreme, is to move towards the centre ground yourself, *not* try to match them in radicalness. This latter strategy worked very well for Blair in 1997.

As for stripping policies of their names, most people are not going to fall for that - and socialism is 'widely popular' only amongst people who believe they won't be hit hard in the pocket by it. Since the late 70's though, that group has been far too small to win elections. The nly part of the media that could be considered really right-wing is the Mail - even the other Tory supporting ones are no more than centre-right.

In short, your perception of the media is far more skewed than the media actually is.

The Express is FAR more right-wing than the Mail.

The Overton Window has been mainstream political talk since 2016. And it’s been a political science concept since it was identified in the 1990s.

Becoming centrist isn’t the answer for Labour, that’s rhetoric that seeks to eliminate Labour’s differentiation. If they can, the extremes will attempt to ask their opponents to meet in the middle, as that is one way Overton shifts towards their preferred extreme. They, Labour, must offer something different.

Really? Then maybe I should start reading it, too... :teresa:

But what they are offering, just doesn't seem to have sufficient appeal...

Oh reaaaally? And yet in a GE about Brexshit, they got 40% and the biggest increase since Attlee vs the biggest ever concerted media campaign. Oop.

Really? Then maybe I should start reading it, too... :teresa:

You can watch Ch5 too, its the same guy who owns both - Richard Desmond I think his name is?!

Not any more. The Express is owned by the Mirror Group (or whatever they call themselves now) and Desmond doesn't own Channel 5 any more either.

Ah, I thought the quality had slightly improved on ch5 - not as many shows about benefits cheats!
So after screaming with laughter at Corbyn's 10£ an hour proposals, the Tories are back with ... a 10.50£ an hour proposal. Wheey sooo original! The BBTory is not asking them how they would pay for it.
Bet all their right wing think tanks have shit themselves looking through McDonnells radical national pharmacuticsl plan amongst others and plan to counter them.

But now for Labour to credibly attack it, they'll be forced to explain the costing of their own £10/hr proposal...

Which they were forcwd to do many many times. Tories have not been asked the same. Wonder why...

Labour just has to point out it is a false Tory promise from a party with no ideas.

Yeh there's def double standards in the media with the two parties spending promises!

But that's just the point - in doing so, they condemn themselves for the same 'crime'...

Question for AQ...

If, as you claim, socialism is so wonderful, than how come millions of people seek to enter rich/capitalist countries, yet flee poor/socialist ones?

False dichotomy. Not all capitalist governments are rich and not all socialist onrs are poor. There is a global rich and global network where the rich lobby and pressure for late neoliberal capitalism.

Question for Vid, if capitalism is the bees' knees, then why have the socialists saved the Portuguese economy and been returned on a larger majority? And why would the UK economy by all forecasts by 5% larger under a Lab gov? And why do the NHS, fire service and roads all work sp well when properly funded and nor purposefully Tory mismanaged? And why did Iceland recover faster by adopting socialist proposals in the credit crunch vs the capitalist countries?
