February 2, 20187 yr Do It Again is good enough actually, a bit too indie influenced and cool sounding for me to really like though! That's exactly why I loved it!
February 2, 20187 yr Good to see this thread back by the way! Haha back AGAIN after another break !
February 2, 20187 yr Haha back AGAIN after another break ! It's had more breaks than the queen
February 3, 20187 yr I remember someone saying that it sounded like Timbaland made it and there are a lot of similarities.
February 14, 20187 yr Groove Armada featuring Mutya Buena - Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control) Date: 15 July 2007 Weeks at #1: 3 weeks Official Chart Run: 94-53-16-13-8-9-15-27-37-43-63-74-100 (11 weeks top 75 +2 top 100) FY5NYBRMurk Mutya was the second Sugababe to go solo, and for her 2nd single she teamed up with British duo Groove Armada for the critically acclaimed euphoric summer anthem "Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)" - follow up to the Stush featuring "Get Down" which hit the UK Singles Top 10 for Groove Armada earlier in 2007. The track was somewhat different to other dance hits of the time, with its retro New Wave feel incorporating dance synthesizers; "Song 4 Mutya" would have felt just as much at home in the 1980s, though Mutya's vocals may have been baby babble at the most given she wasn't born until 1985. "Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)" was taken from both Groove Armada's #10 hit album "Soundboy Rock" and also Mutya's debut solo album "Real Girl". It manages 3 weeks as a dance number 1 here - and it wasn't until the third of those weeks that sales included that of a physical CD Single, which is when it peaked at #8 in the UK Singles Chart. It would be Groove Armada's final top 75 hit - let alone top 10 hit - though they have released 3 albums since: "Black Light" which contained singles "Paper Romance" (featuring SaintSaviour and Fenech-Soler) and "History" (featuring Will Young), "White Light" (which was an album containing alternative versions of those on "Black Light") and 2015's "Little Black Book". Mutya Buena also never troubled the top 10 again, having had numerous hits prior with Sugababes plus her Lenny Kravitz sampling #2 hit "Real Girl". Mutya, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy would go on to reform the Sugababes 1.0 but as MKS - however this was surprisingly met with little success, as lead single "Flatline" scraped into the top 50. The music video was festival-themed, featuring Mutya singing and a load of fans jumping around - some were dressed in animal suits just as in the "Get Down" video. Incidentally, this Groove Armada track was initially intended to feature the vocals of Estelle, who of course would go on to have a number 1 hit in 2008 with "American Boy" - you'd assume the track wouldn't have been titled as it was in this instance!
February 14, 20187 yr I barely paid attention to this at the time and only got into it a few years ago - it's basically a love letter to every major 80s genre all at once, especially near the end where you've got what sounds like The Human League and New Order doing a jam session together. That's not the video I remember though, was an animated one I think? I assume the lyrics are basically a Sugababes/Amelle diss track worded to also sound like a lover who's been jilted - presumably all that came after Mutya replaced Estelle on the vocals as it wouldn't have worked otherwise. EDIT: Actually never mind about the video, must be mistaken. Edited February 14, 20187 yr by BillyH
February 14, 20187 yr Its not very dancey imo, I know its supposed to be 80s based but there were more dancey sounding electronic songs in the 80s imo (even before the house era) than this sounds! Anyway, I guess since its Groove Armada producing it and somewhat dancey it can be included! Wasn't a fan of this at the time, but I do like it more now and can appreciate the 80s influences in it now I know more about 80s music! It also has a very summery sound to it! Get Down is still better though imo. Edited February 14, 20187 yr by The Snake
February 14, 20187 yr That's not the video I remember though, was an animated one I think? EDIT: Actually never mind about the video, must be mistaken. Apparently there was actually an alternate video which premiered on Mutya's website.
February 14, 20187 yr Some other dance hits at this time #19 M0zrZSxJNU4 Again do I detect some 80s New Wave influence here too? The vocal is a bit in your face as usual with Luciana but otherwise it sounds like a good tune! may remember it a bit from the time. #38 j1gcmj0qvNg Why did this flop so much? Stunning summery funky house tune, my favourite dance song of 2007! I think the main version played at the time was this Axwell remix. I remember it from the time I think and I liked it. #13 zoMYU_nOGNg This is one of the first dance songs I properly loved, remember it from being on the radio a few times on holiday (I think I was on holiday in Lanzarote or Tenerife where I heard it), presumably around the time it was popular. Pity it didn't become a bigger hit in the UK.
February 14, 20187 yr I love the unoriginality of the name "Sunfreakz", just taking two popular dance act names from 2006 and joining them together :P It's like that infamous shop in Birmingham called Safebury's. Wonder if there's a group called Beatblock? Counting Down The Days got tons of Radio 1 play but it didn't translate into sales for some reason. The Axwell mix samples Nomad's I Wanna Give You Devotion from 1991. Rise Up was a HUGE club anthem, still playing a lot in 2009 when I was clubbing all the time - felt way way bigger than its chart peak! Takes me right back to the late noughties.
February 14, 20187 yr I literally can't remember that Sunfreakz song at all :o It samples "Dirty Sax" though, I notice! That Super Mal ft Luciana song certainly sounded better at the time. The Yves LaRock one is great, very Bob Sinclar at the time. Also, I love the Groove Armada/Mutya Buena track, one of my favourites of 2007 for sure. The next dance number 1 is not only my favourite of 2007 but it is also my favourite song of all time!
February 14, 20187 yr Although I’ve never been a massive fan of Groove Armada, I did really like ‘Song 4 Mutya’. It felt so fresh at the time and was one of my favourites of 2007. I occasionally still listen to it now!
February 16, 20187 yr Robyn with Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat Date: 05 August 2007 Weeks at #1: 8 weeks Official Chart Run: 5-1-2-3-4-7-8-11-19-24-30-38-45-51-47-60-59-76-96-xx-xx-68-46-49-39-39-40-51-66-91 (25 weeks top 75 +3 top 100) -ojHWQrm4UM Time for a monster hit which spent 8 weeks as dance number 1, holding off the likes of Axwell and David Guetta in the process... all the way from Sweden, it's the collaboration of Robyn Carlsson and Andreas Kleerup with "With Every Heartbeat"! Initially, this was billed as Kleerup featuring Robyn - the former's debut single - though also included on Robyn's self-titled album which peaked at number 11 in the UK Albums Chart. "With Every Heartbeat" is an emotional electro-house song, featuring strings arranged by Carl Bagge using Sibelius software. In its full 'album version' form, the track features no distinct chorus: the string-focused section followed by Robyn's "and it hurts with every heartbeat" until the end - however for UK release, the radio edit changed up the structure by cutting the string-focused section, and following "and it hurts with every heartbeat" with what is recognised as the chorus: "we could keep trying but things will never change..." - this gave the song a poppier edge, which may have contributed to its success. The song wasn't actually a huge success in Sweden, peaking at number 23 in the chart there, however BBC Radio 1's Jo Whiley and Scott Mills named it as their records of the week, with the song making it to the A-list. Robyn also performed "With Every Heartbeat" in Jo Whiley's Live Lounge on the week of the CD single release as the song rose to the top of the UK Singles Chart, holding off the close challenge of previous week's number 1 "The Way I Are" by Timbaland featuring Keri Hilson, D.O.E & Sebastian and also Kanye West's "Stronger" which would go on to knock it from the top spot the week after. The track was also used as the theme music for the BBC's coverage of that summer's FIFA Women's World Cup. The music video comprised of Robyn in rewind in a computer-animated setting, with colourful blocks representing the rhythm and sounds surrounding her. Robyn's outfit changes colours as the song progresses. As Robyn sings "and it hurts with every heartbeat", the blocks begin to tumble, with Robyn trying to run away from them, however they eventually crush her. "With Every Heartbeat" was championed by various dance DJs, and contributing to its rise to the top of the UK chart were various remixes of the song including by Dave Spoon, Steve Angello - and Voodoo & Serano (below). 607FQ5vgQAA Robyn's rise to the top of the chart was all the more impressive given she had hit the UK charts a decade prior with top 10 hit "Show Me Love" and 3 more minor hits, and then nothing until this release. She did continue releasing in Sweden, including the single "Keep This Fire Burning" which you may recognise as a Beverley Knight single from 2005, which was actually a cover of Robyn. "With Every Heartbeat" spent over half a year in the UK Singles Chart Top 100 - 7 of those top 10, and 15 of those top 40. Robyn would go on to have further hits including "Handle Me", "Be Mine!", "Who's That Girl", "Hang With Me", "Call Your Girlfriend" - and who could forget the mammoth "Dancing On My Own", later popularised by Britain's Got Talent contestant Calum Scott? Robyn also dabbled further with the dance genre on collaborations with Christian Falk ("Dream On"), Röyksopp ("Do It Again") and La Bagatelle Magique ("Love Is Free"). Kleerup never again graced the UK charts, however "Longing For Lullabies" featuring Titiyo (half sister of Neneh Cherry and step sister of Eagle-Eye Cherry) is worth a mention - this was his follow up to "With Every Heartbeat" and was a top 10 hit in Sweden: Mu_dr9M2vjA
February 16, 20187 yr Author for whatever reason the Vevo version cuts the song off early, I've replaced it with the full length video. now this is one I don't really consider to be dance but rather electronic/synth pop, but nonetheless it's an amazing song and a fully deserved #1 hit.
February 16, 20187 yr I really do love this one, it is my favourite song of all time  I have also regularly played the Voodoo & Serano remix in my DJ sets.
February 16, 20187 yr Love With Every Heartbeat  remember the video so vividly from the time too
February 16, 20187 yr I wouldn't call With Every Heartbeat electro-house tbh. Initially I thought it was ambient trance/progressive house because of its progressiveness, but now I would say it is more its more synthpop and early dance music inspired I think (definitely sounds a bit Giorgio Moroder with the synths) Anyway, it is absolutely stunning as a song, its quite a sad song of course. I liked it at the time I think and rediscovered it a few years ago. I will let danG post the other songs in the chart at the time including a brill tune from Axwell and Max C (which I initially thought you were referring to when you said your favourite song of all time was coming soon Midge).
