This is SOMETHING ELSE. I can't even begin to describe it but I'll try.

 

The production is sublime; like a BTW track for sure but more metallic and open than that album. The vocals yes I can see how they might grate on some but for me I find them so intriguing and raw. Is she happy is she distraught is she crying out for pain? I can't even pin point what this song means. It's not LOVE but it's a PERFECT illusion so is she ok with it not being so? SO MANY QUESTIONS is it about Taylor?

 

I'd say she's more passionate than angry. Like the reverse side of TEOG where she was more mournful and sorrowful.. now she's full of EMOTION and letting it all out.

 

All in all I absolutely adore it. Is it a hit? Probably NOT but I can't stop singing the hook and I've only heard it once Lol. So good to have her back <3

The thing that I love about Gaga's artistry is that she always tries to push the boundaries of pop music and actually proves that it's not one restricted genre but many genres that coexist in the same mainframe. She did that in BTW, she sorta touched on that with ARTPOP, and this single is the next step. It's like a BTW track but it seems more organic and raw which is what we've been seeing of Gaga for the past year or so. Sure it's underhwelming compared to her lead singles but is anything gonna touch the first three lead singles? Probably not. Even if it might not be a hit, you can tell she puts her heart and soul into it, especially in how raw her vocals sounded. I don't know, if we get more stuff that blends genres and pushes the boundaries, we might have a cohesive album for LG5.

 

This forum in particular just went OFF on it.

I'm disappointed. Maybe it's meant to be a grower but it already sounds like one of her weakest singles to date, not what I wanted from a GaGa comeback. :(

amazing amazing bassline and so so catchy... my only criticism is the chorus feels like a pre-chorus for a chorus that never happens and u find urself at a middle 8 after 90 seconds which is odd

 

i do find her vocals are a bit too affected and i think this would've been much better wiht a more... neutral singer

The key change is I dunnooo!! But that OPENING ROCK RIFF YES!!! IS ALMOST THE SAME AS THE OPENING ROCK RIFF OF FF8 THE LANDING!! SOMEONE LINK TO ET AM ON BUS!!!

Hmm ok this might well be a grower then as the overall song didn't hit me in a 'this is amazing' sorta thing after the teaser intro sounded like it was looking to sound like a big song. :(

 

Maybe it'll click later but can't say I'm that keen in the end.

Michael I agree. Rihanna and Beyonce changed it up and didn't chase any trends and now she's doing the same. Of course it's going to alienate some/many but it's also going to bring new fans in. It's the reasons I've always loved her: unexpected, in your face music.
