Olly Murs thought not putting song on youtube will repeat Drakes career.

And I am very glad he has been severely punished as his song is likeable and potential top 3 song but is deep in the basement.Hopefully every artist which wants us to pay to listen to his songs will be heavily punished like Olly from now on as he will surely lose a lot of revenue thnks to this

I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually neared the top 10

Really hope ELO hold on to the number one in the album chart!

Hold on Tight to your dream :musicnote:

what you talking about? of course the new Olly is on Youtube, he has over 2 million views already
Olly will re-bound, his singles usually peak a few weeks after release and usually stick around for a while.
Now 94 is a massive impulse buyer. Shoppers will see it & just buy it on a whim for the most part I reckon!

Just this lunchtime, I saw in a Co-op that Now 94 was on sale on its own at the till, in its own little display case.

If this is replicated at supermarkets across the land, it'll be picking up thousands of impulse buys, as you say.

Yes, it's at most small Coop's and it's at the front of every Tesco I've seen, with it being plaed on loudspeaker across the store. Very impressive for it to still get that amount of support in this day and age although I suppose the UK public love to get a bargain and it's an effective way to get multiple songs for a fraction of the price.

Report from MW

After drawing level with Wet Wet Wet’s 15-week stay at the top it looks like Drake’s One Dance is about to take a tumble, with Major Lazer’s (feat. Justin Bieber) new single Cold Water set to dethrone the Canadian rapper.

According to official charts figures, Cold Water has stopped One Dance in its tracks, flying straight in at No. 1. And, while the midweeks have yet to be updated with Spotify and Apple streaming numbers, Major Lazer’s streams are way ahead of Drake’s numbers from this time last week, making a first new No. 1 in almost four months look very likely.

Last week, Drake dropped the download price of One Dance on iTunes from 99p to 59p in a bid to boost paid-for purchases. And it seemed to work, securing him another week at the top and driving week-on-week download sales up 33%.

However, while this approach may have helped it draw level with Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around, it looks as though it’s not been quite enough to displace Bryan Adams from the UK singles chart throne, whose single (Everything I Do) I Do It For You held on to the top spot for a whopping 16 weeks.

Despite the close-run race between the three singles, a look at official charts sales figures for each makes for interesting reading.

Adams managed to shift enough units of his single to earn it double platinum status, while We Wet Wet notched up over 1.2 million physical sales. Drake’s One Dance, on the other hand, has relied almost entirely on streams to support its stint atop the charts. So far it has accumulated almost 88 million streams, but only a relatively meager 435,00 permanent downloads.

In Drake’s defence, both of his ‘90s rivals were backed by major cinematic releases – Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves and Four Weddings And A Funeral – adding significantly to their widespread appeal.

But who knows? An end of week sales surge for One Dance certainly shouldn’t be ruled out. And who knows what last-minute tactics team Drake may still have up its sleeve?

I might actually tune into the chart on Friday for once seeing as there's going to be a new #1.

I think Bear's Den will most likely fall to #5, ELO looks about safe for a #1 album this week, never really saw that coming.

One Dance could fall to #3 once all the data is collated, soz mis-calculated.

wow Cold Water 20K ahead of One Dance ;)
One Dance is only down to number 5 because if it wasn't for Cold Water then his record company with weaker competition would be fighting tooth and nail to equal Bryan Adams' record.

Yes he put his song on youtube after seeing tragic run on a charts.

Greedy strategy did not work so he desperatly tries to get into the charts pretending he is 'open'

But first idea was to put song only in paid websites and he was severely punished by so poor chart run

People are no fool long term now the song is tooo 'worn out' and he will not have a good chart run at all

so how many months do we reckon major lazer will spend at #1 then? :kink: :heehee:

I'd go with 4 weeks if I'm honest. I can't see it lasting as long as One Dance - something'll surely come along and knock it off. I doubt we'll be seeing too many runs at number one into double figures, not in the near future any way.

It went on YouTube a week after release, which is pretty early actually by most songs' standards in 2016. It's not greedy, it's a smart tactic and one that's clearly working for the likes of Drake. People can hear it on Spotify for free. It's not had any negative impact on his chart run and it will improve as time goes on, cause that's how the 2016 charts work :P

If Olly put his music openly for everyone he could enjoy TOP 3-5 presence, now due too his greeedy strategy he will be nowhere near there

Where do you you see 'smartness' here? He gambled and lost, he can not even manage even top 20 which is shameful performance by not so bad song.

Spotify is a paid service, everyone knows and there are plenty of gimmicks even if it is named 'free' so I and majority not even bother to go there

And now I have a gleee every song trying to follow Drage will be clobbered in the charts

we'll see, but these painfully long running #1's tend to come in clusters~

1952-1955 (beginning of the vinyl era)

1952 Al Martino 9

1953 Frankie Laine 9+6+3=18

1954 Eddie Calvert 9

1954 Doris Day 9

1954 David Whitfield 10

1955 Slim Whitman 11

1991-1994 (beginning of the cd era)

1991 Bryan Adams 16

1992-1993 Whitney Houston 10

1994 Wet Wet Wet 15

2006-2007 (beginning of the download era)

2006 Gnarls Barkley 9

2007 Rihanna 10

so i wouldn’t be at all surprised if at least a couple more #1's reach double figures in the next couple of years~
