good film 8/10. I rather enjoyed the confused chronology of events and different POV's, and the non-involvement of character/minimal dialogue as it avoided flag-waving in what was a major defeat of the UK (albeit snatching victory of sorts). I can see why Farage wants everyone to see it - as others have already noted - the far-right fascists win the battle. (SPOILER ALERT!) It was also the right length, no padding and a good cast. Oh, and it was filmed locally in Swanage too, enjoyed the classic railway scenes (now connected to the mainline after decades away) :)

What a shame we are both too old to have answered the call for extras

Oh we could have been the old trusty rail guards...B-)

Just got back from this and it's easily Nolan's worst film.

Harsh if you ask me, but given that all his other films are exceptional...

It was just rather basic, a film for the lads. Nothing I'd not seen before, whilst Nolan is usually an innovator. It was shot beautifully, I'll give it that, but the acting and dialogue was...cheesy and none of the characters were developed enough.
That was the point of the movie though, i actually read an article that he actually considered to make Dunkirt scriptless!!!
This was a decent film but I too was left rather underwhelmed considering the high praise/ratings it's been receiving. A few really well shot, tense scenes but in terms of war films Hacksaw Ridge completely blows this out of the water.

This review explains my feelings towards the film better than I could have. Also, my World War II historian parents said it was one of the most manipulatingly inaccurate war films they'd seen, especially the 'little ships', which apparneltly are seen to be mostly a myth these days as their help was very insignificant, they were just used as a ploy for an emotional almost 'feel good' response from the audience.
