Killers go on first-day sales rampage

Source: Music Week

The Killers are a certainty to reach number one with their second album this weekend after retailers report Sam’s Town broke through six figures during its first day on sale.

The Mercury album, which was released yesterday, has already sold more than 100,000 copies to outperform its nearest challenger by around three copies to one. It will be looking to match or even surpass the first-week sales last month of another Universal second album, Scissor Sisters’ Tah-Dah! which opened with 288,167 sales and is now set to be replaced at one by The Killers.

Sam’s Town will be joined in the Top 10 this Sunday by two other new entries, The Open Door by Wind Up/Columbia’s Evanescence who are in a battle with Scissor Sisters for runners-up spot, and Shine On by Atlantic’s Jet.

Rosette-signed Daniel O’Donnell is also pushing for a Top 10 place with new album Until The Next Time, while lower down new entries are expected from Demon-signed Marti Pellow with a new solo set, Relentless’s Kt Tunstall with a new acoustic album and San Remo/Island’s Scott Matthews, with debut offering Passing Stranger.

As Razorlight’s self-titled second album aims to retain its top-five status this week, the Vertigo/Mercury band are on course to score their first-ever number one single with the physical bow of America expected to take it from its debut position of 15 on Sunday to the top of the chart. If it does reach the top, it will put to an end a four-week reign by Polydor’s Scissor Sisters with I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’.

Two other tracks charting on digital-only sales last week are also expected to progress into the top five – Bad Boy/Atlantic’s P Diddy featuring Nicole Scherzinger with Come To Me and Defected-signed Bob Sinclair & Cuttee B with Rock This Party.

Baywatch star David Hasselhoff, whose success on the German music charts is almost legendary, will now have a sizable UK hit on his hands as his single Jump In My Car – released on the Skintight label – is battling with Reprise/Warner Bros’ My Chemical Romance with Welcome To The Black Parade for highest-new-entry honours.

Love thge song and finally a really good video for the Confessions album
PS The Hoff better not overtake Bob Sinclar or there'll be hell to pay.

Someone stop Scott Mills, he seems to be urging people to buy The Hoff's single over Razorlight
I was listening to radio 1 earlier, and some woman who was in on the campaign got some random person from the street to go into HMV and buy 3 copies of the Hoff.

I hope people do buy the Hoff over Razorlight ^_^

Poor Hoff!

Bob Sinclar better be top 3 by Sunday!

Rumour has it that Gina G has jumped into the top 40 now-great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bob Sinclair is just terrible :(

Glad Razorlight are getting thier first number 1, even though its not one of thier best tracks :D

One thing I just noticed is that the Pontiac that is 'KITT' is a right hand drive model for the UK. I don't think that the 80s model was - for roads in the USA.

I'm not sure whether Scott Mills needs shooting?!

I've heard far worse 'novelty' tracks though.

The Hoff could get a #2 placing, he could get further
Is the hoff 16k behind razorlight. That'd mean he was only on 5,000 copies so far. poor sales if true!
