Lovely commentary, Umi! I didn't follow charts when 'My Prerogative' came out, but it was huge even though the charts didn't show that. The single wasn't available to buy, along with the charts transitioning to include download sales (hence why Do Somethin' hit the top 100 when in January, even though it wasn't even released here) But, I think it was an infamous moment for her career. It was the kiss off to her peak of not giving a flying f***, especially since she still didn't have kids to account for.

She was still America's sweetheart even up to 'Outrageous'. Her team did a fantastic job of counteracting her private life leaking out the sides of the curtain because of brilliant PR and because she was the hottest shit walking the earth at the time. 'My Prerogative' was the mark of the general public backlash in America. But, what did she do? She took a long break from music (In The Zone - Blackout is still our largest gap in time for her to not release a studio album). It was the PERFECT goodbye even though she went through immense turmoil. She completely left her teen roots behind and came back brilliantly with 'Gimme More'.

Like, you seriously can't write this shit. Her career from 1998 - 2009 is truly iconic to the world in every. single. tiny. step. And 'My Prerogative' was her for the first time telling her haters to shut the f*** up.

Everyone was talking about MP and her greatest hits freaking out about her retiring. God, I kinda miss those days even though I know she doesn't.

Gosh Tyler...i wanna go back that time and live there forever...and i agree with everything you summed up about MP...this bish was so fierce!!!

A lot of people took Britney in her prime for granted. 'Blackout' was a mess technically, but everyone was OBSESSED about everything she was doing. I mean I remember the election in 2004 happening and watching news reports from CNN with my mom and them having a f***ing "Britney watch". Even when she didn't release anything fully between 2005- late 2007. Our generation (at least in America) didn't know how boring pop culture was without her. No one captivated the scene fully until Gaga got big in late 2008 - early 2009. But, Gaga never had that fanbase that grew up with her at 4-6 years old in the Mickey Mouse club. I mean I have prints of her at 9 years old from that show. And TBH, no one transitioned as well as her into an adult career. Justin was successful with N'Sync but he only got noticed as a solo artist by releasing 'Cry Me A River' and by telling the world on Howard Stern that he took her virginity. Like, you can love his music but he used an innocent girl that truly loved him and threw her under the bus to be noticed. Let's all remember that 'Like I Love You' (which did peak at #11, even though his single was available for single purchase for 59 cents on rhapsody in 2002) was just as noticed as his band mate, JC Who had a similar impacting hit with 'Blowin Me Up'. What set them apart and made people focus on Justin? His relationship with Britney. Same thing with Christina who went on a joint tour with Justin that same year after saying Britney was a "fame whore" and that's the only reason she kissed Madonna. Even though we all know that we just didn't care about her being there. She also told her fans when "Stripped" came out on TRL, that you can't like me AND Britney, you have to pick one, and at least I can sing.

Britney Spears is iconic in just that she has never responded to negativity, she's always been such a sweet and self empowering woman, even at times she couldn't empower herself. I think Britney is overly cautious now and it makes sense. She gets shit on no matter what she does. I mean her first live mocked her shaving her head 5 years after they broke up. Christina didn't grow the f*** up until Britney did breakdown, but at least she realized and even took the time to apologize for her actions when younger.

So, I guess with all the great things that were happening for her career wise... I know all that stuff tore her down mentally, especially since she's probably the least dramatic figure in pop royalty besides Michael Jackson. I mean the only friends that she could trust turned on her and dogged her out and really the only person besides her family to care about her well being was Madonna. You have Lance Bass from N'Sync writing about how Justin never loved Britney and used her to catapult himself and JC said similar things. In an interview they showed him the 'Cry Me A River' video and he said "Man, I don't want to see this shit" and after stopping the video he said "Man the terrible things people will do for fame".

Britney lost that true spark after 'My Prerogative' and I think it's because of all listed and then the general public and even fans ripping her apart. She's come a long f***ing way for such a humble person. And the best thing about her... no one can give me a single quote about her being negative towards ANYONE else. And considering everything, that takes a VERY strong person.

Sorry went of the topic kinda. (A lot)

Thank you for the warm reviews guys  I really loved going back through her videography and seeing what all of the videos she made meant for her and how they come together as a whole. I really look forward to seeing yours, Kye! It's really fun and interesting (and cool and funky...) to get different perspectives on something like this.

Umi I loved your rate. In fact, we have very similar highlights in terms of her videos; Toxic, My Preogative, MATM, Work Bitch and I especially agreed with what you said about the Oops video.
Lmao Tyler! Omg. I actually LIVE for those posts. Not even joking. I learn SO MUCH from them.

Also, Umi, I don't see your Make Me rate as an overreaction. The thing that makes, say, Ooh La La better for me is that it at least matches the song they're selling. A kids video for a song for an animated kids film. (She's quite chamney in the video too).

Haha! I'm just glad someone enjoys reading them.

Is anyone busy tomorrow night? Was gonna do a plug sesh dedicated to Britney! In order to help people with rating? Or shall I leave it for sometime during the week? :D

What a f***ing FANTASTIC idea!

I would 100% be down for that!! I am a flop who has not seen a lot of these videos so that would be a huge help :o
I Will Be There

WHEN YOU'RE FEELING LOW, BABAY LET ME KNOOW.

I will be there barring horrible forgetfulness!

I can't make it because I'm off out but enjoy guys. I hope you all pay attention to the My Prerogative video and get on board with its underrated-ness.

I have plans on Sunday! (But obvz feel free to do one without me, I've already rated, was doing this to be with our little community and help those out who might want to adjust scores/rate in general)

I can do it Monday/midweek if it's easier and more convenient for people?

I hope you all pay attention to the My Prerogative video and get on board with its underwear-ness.
