Who do you think is the best cyclist you've seen?

 

 

Even though he is now 31 and not quite as fast as he used to be, I still am floored by the power of the ‘Manx missile’ Mark Cavendish.. to get those four additional stage wins on the Tour de France this year and the yellow jersey on Stage 1 was incredible. Then to pull out early in order to prepare for the track at Rio (a huge adjustment) and get a silver! Amazing.

Cavendish is the best sprinter I've seen. Really deserved the sliver medal in Rio for sure.

Best cyclist? Chris Froome by quite a long way.

 

Obviously he's trailing a little on the Vuelta, but what do you expect when you've won the Tour de France and ridden at the Olympics?

 

It was also nice to see Adam Yates come out of nowhere and gain that white jersey on the Tour (whilst his brother sat at home being banned for taking an asthma inhaler)

 

I'm also becoming a fan of Dutch rider Tom Dumoulin, his performance on last year's Vuelta was amazing and it was great to see him get a silver in the Olympic time trial

As for sprinters, yes I would agree with Cavendish. Dan McLay looks like a future potential though after his recent Tour de France performances

Who do you think will win?

 

Personally, I think Quintana has it in the bag now. Froome's efforts at the Tour de France & Olympics seem to be showing and I'm not sure he'll even stay in the Top 3. Konig and the rest of the Sky team were pretty unlucky yesterday, all losing an hour :(

 

Also, is anyone following the Tour of Britain?

What do people make of the allegations around Bradley Wiggins?

In my opinion, if it was for medical reasons and they allowed it, I don't really see what the issue is. I hope nothing bad comes of it, Wiggins is a role model for many.

I don't think we've heard the last of these Wiggins allegations.

Yorkshire will host the 2019 World Road Race Championship. Should be a great atmosphere.

Looked a bit odd in the final stage at Abu Dhabi with them doing laps on the motor racing circuit. Good win for Cavendish on the final stage.

 

 

Can't say I've been following it but just seen the highlights now. Great to see Cav win the stage

Bradley Wiggins has announced his retirement from cycling.

He's had his fair share of victory though, I guess it's the right time for him.

An extraordinary incident

 

Dubai Tour leader Marcel Kittel says he will not accept an apology after Ukrainian rider Andriy Grivko punched him on the third stage of the race.

 

Grivko has been disqualified from the race and his Astana team apologised to Kittel and his Quick Step Floors team.

 

German sprinter Kittel posted a picture on Twitter with blood on his face, and wrote: "I won't accept an apology. That has nothing to do with cycling.

 

"What Grivko did is a shame for our beautiful sport."

 

The incident happened early on the 200km stage from Dubai to Al Aqah.

 

"When we passed a construction site, the sand began blowing and as soon as we went into the crosswinds we were fighting for position, which is always stressful, and Andriy Grivko punched me," Kittel said on his team's website.

 

"I get that riding in the crosswinds is always tense, but it gives him no right to act like that. He could have hurt my eye.

 

"In the finale, my mind wasn't 100% on the sprint, but I am happy I have no big injuries and I kept the lead."

 

'I responded with aggressive action to aggressive action'

 

Grivko later posted a statement on his Facebook page, in which he claimed Kittel had first pushed both himself and team-mate Dmitriy Gruzdev.

 

He said that created "a very tense and dangerous situation that could cause not only my fall, but a big crash in the peloton."

 

Grivko, who also accused Kittel of spitting at him, added: "I responded with aggressive action to aggressive action from the other side.

 

"Perhaps I got emotional and it has nothing to do with cycling, but in extreme situations, when exists a question of safety, it is difficult to stay calm."

 

Kittel had won the opening two stages but finished outside the top 10 on day three, as John Degenkolb of Trek-Segafredo took stage honours.

 

Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) also finished outside the top 10 in an untidy sprint finish, with Aqua Blue Sport's Adam Blythe the best-placed Briton in ninth place after his team-mate Mark Christian spent most of the day in the break.

 

Kittel retained the overall race lead by eight seconds from Dylan Groenewegen of Team Lotto NL-Jumbo.

No idea who's telling the truth here, but obviously Kittel's come out the worst. Congrats to Kittel for winning the Dubai Tour though
