September 20, 20168 yr Is everyone liking this pace? I can slow down if you guys want No, it's greatl! I need to go to bed before midnight anyway :P
September 20, 20168 yr Author zayMPaJ-2RI 23.) Seyetana Hey, greetings from Buzzjack’s Most Serene Empire of Séyetana, basking in extra serenity after the joyful and somewhat unexpected qualification of the nation’s latest darlings Kalafina. Thank you to anyone who’s considered them worthy of being somewhere away from the bottom of the table (spoiler: they deserve the top but we’ll allow that they probably won’t be anywhere near). Anyway, time to hand out my goodies, congrats if you’re in here. Or not, there were some pretty good songs in this final and I couldn't fit them all in. Commisserations go to Syndare, D’yermak’er, Hendinia, Terra Avium and Persephonia, who I would have loved to fit into my votes but as always I ran out of spaces. Hope none of you needed a couple of measly points. 01 #00274E: Yuri X Seohyun - "Secret" Turns out some members of SNSD are capable of making a good song away from the group. #00274E back to points for the first time in a while. 02 Altyr Muunilinst: SHAED - "Running Through The Fields" I did not SHAED our Qween this time (am the 10th person to make that joke tonight). This is some pretty lovely pop, more of the sort Altyr always used to give me. Which they should do more x 03 Peoples Independent State of Slutland: Ariel Pink - "Not Enough Violence" The sound effects in the second half of this song, my Pavel, that’s incredible. So many little cool things going on here, definitely a great song to see in the final. 04 @Trifoski: La Femme - "Sphynx" Trifoski better strap their seatbelts on because this is going UP. Unknown Pleasures that is. Not to the top, Trifoski are never at the top. Sphynx is very nicely mysterious. 05 Hushkanukia: Emji - "Lost" Hushky are on a rather good run right now, I had to let this grow on me because it took until then to fully appreciate the choral effects in the last half of the song, it was pretty much those that got this into points range, I like that sort of thing a lot especially in a pop song where I don’t expect it. 06 Mulgracia: Monarchy - "Dance Like Hell" I had definitely thought Monarchy were past their best but this infectious bop of a track is very good at doing exactly what it sets out to do, the repetition loops and builds to some great highs (take notes Snakey) 07 Cor_Lupus: Nhato f/Sasi - "Way Of Life" Cody, hearing German lyrics in a Japanese sounding song, you’ve no idea how happy that makes me considering the place Germanic culture has in Japanese culture (short version: Japanese makes use of Germanic elements to signify exoticism/old-world flavour) and my love for both. This is a lovely instrumental regardless, got stuck in my head really quickly, let’s not have the AQs flop. 08 FljótavÃk: Agnes Obel - "Familiar" I think this is very much in what I’d now call a FljótavÃk vibe, it’s kinda close to Olafur and a couple of other recent entries. But I love that because it grows on me so nicely and the reward is that it’s a song that gets better every time. So different to her winner as well, it feels so fresh. Lovely discovery.  09 N_DNTN: Raye - "Shhh" I can definitely see this one doing very well, if I’m right. This is so fast and breakneck and stands out from the pack so much it’s hard to believe I skipped right over it on first listen, I skipped over what will probably be our winner. I have it now. Oh, now I’ve said it’s going to be the winner I’m probably dooming you Chris, sorry. 10 Lomaja: Triple T f/JYP - "Born To Be Wild" What a debut! And a brave one as well, I’m so pleased it’s paid off. I haven’t entered K-Pop for quite a while because most of the ones that stand out to me these days are these sorts of slightly down-and-dirty pop tracks that use pop singing to emphasise it when it does come in. And fill the rest with energetic rap and rough instrumentals. Basically I have a very good soft spot for that when it’s done in Korean, it just works. I’m not sure why. 11 Florina: Foreign Air - "Echo" Reminding me a bit of MONAKR in that it’s some little side bits that are really making it for me but this is a wonderful return for Florina, please stick around if you’re going to provide standouts like this as opposed to sending some featureless indie-pop to the slaughter 12 Pupok: Claudia Kane - "Einstein" Lotti, this is an absolute beauty. Partly because of the lyrics which make this the most respectful song called Einstein (take that with your maths confusion Kelly) to science, but it’s also a really lovely pop ballad, Bre I think said it reminded him of Sabotage (one of my entries) and I can definitely see that, except in English. And this is a song that really benefits from the lyrics so that’s an advantage. 13 Jadakissnia: MssingNo - "Scope" It’s going to be tight but this is probably the song I hope wins, even though I gave it only 4 more points than Shhh and it’ll probably be a close fight. I’m even starting to prefer it to Xe2 and that one’s still a regular on my UP playlists, the instrumentation is so sharp and the lyric ‘you got me stuck on you’ feels so good (and appropriate!) 15 Tinnmark: Wardruna - "Odal" This does not happen often enough. That is, someone enters a dark rocky entry to BJSC and it’s in the other semi and it actually qualifies so I can show my love for it through BJSC points (rip Justice For Saint Mary, Write About Us among others). The choral parts in this give way to an epic folky instrumental that is slightly building off the same vibe as Ilumbarada last month but that’s a GOOD song to get inspired by (and that probably only occurred to me and others because Ilumbarada itself stands apart from the rest of the BJSC crowd). Close to the top, but nothing can match the fury of… 18 Skall: Stupeflip - "Stupeflip Vite !!!" Skall, Skall, Harve, you’ve outdone yourself here. Nothing quite excites me in this contest like ferocious foreign language rap. At times. That the video is delivered through the medium of knights swaggering around in chainmail is perfect. But even just in audio it’s a piece that just keeps going and going in holding the interest and enjoyment by switching the voices, using French in possibly the best way in this contest since De Ceux (which was quite similar now I think about it), and it has that pounding instrumental, I love pretty much everything about this.  May the best track win. Or one of them. 24.) Dobago Dobago checking in tonight how are we all? I'd like to thank the host, The Codemeister for a really fun contest - loved the theme & the concept!
