To be fair, they've done ok considering the slow charts and plethora of artist licensing issues these days...here are some of the omissions/reasons maybe:

Ed Sheeran - Shape of You (looks like it will be on Now 97 instead and they were given COTH to keep them sweet)

Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl (likewise...or maybe Now 98!)

The Chainsmokers and Coldplay - Something Just Like This (they've got Paris and Hypnotised...so this looks like another for Now 97)

ZAYN and Taylor Swift - I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker) (It's Taylor, enough said)

Steps - Scared Of The Dark (not a big enough hit presumably)

Maroon 5 - Cold [feat. Future] (not sure why this is missing...Now 97?)

Louisa Johnson - Best Behaviour (I'd expect this to take off and surprised to not see it here when they got So Good last time...Now 97?)

James Arthur - Safe Inside (a curious miss, guess they thought it's not a big enough hit to bother with...but there are much smaller hits on the album)

Matt Terry - When Christmas Comes Around (will inevitably end up on the next Now Xmas reboot)

Clean Bandit feat Zara Larsson - Symphony (too new maybe, but I was expecting to see it here, they got Rockabye quite early on for Now 95)

Lady Gaga - Million Reasons (not a big enough hit for them?)

Take That - Giants (one week wonder but surprised this has been missed, the album will do fairly well)

Drake (was half expecting Too Good, seeing as we got Hotline Bling and One Dance so late)

If they wanted to add George Michael as a tribute, they should have added "Careless Whisper" instead of a song of his which appeared on a past volume and as for Ed Sheeran, they should have added his #1 single instead of his #2 single but at least we know now that they have the rights to his music

Wasn't it a dance remix of FastLove on Now 35? At least this is hopefully the first outing for the radio version.

Ed they obviously would have put Shape Of You on if they'd been allowed, his record company have clearly vetoed it for now to maximise its stay at #1 or drive people to Divide instead.

Nice of them to add George. Shape of You must be doing a "Rather Be" situation and might start of Disc 2 of NOW 97. Disappointed about Steps! I'm not surprised Drake's "Too Good" is on there, it's two artists who don't license their songs that often. I've come to realise that the Spring NOWs are nothing compared to the Summer and Winter NOWs.

YES FOR LORDE THOUGH! WOW!

In regards to 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever', was 'Love Me Like You Do' and/or 'Worth It' featured on any of the albums? Maybe they're holding this one off to coincide with the DVD release, so Now 97?

Steps, was Post Malone a hit? :unsure:

Louisa I assumed they were holding off for Now 97, too.

James Arthur, another genuine omission.

Clean Bandit will def be on Now 97, surely? :o

It was the forthright edit. I'll be more annoyed if they include the forthright edit again. They did it before with Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing". The 80s remix appeared on both NOW 9 and NOW 38 whereas the original 70s version never appeared at all. And as for Ed, maybe he's doing what Drake did for NOW 94

Even when it comes to padding it out with smaller hits, could they not have found something better than Post Malone? :lol:

Other possible emissions that haven't already been mentioned:

Drake - Fake Love (although I can see why this wouldn't be on here considering his album/playlist was just released)

Snakehips & MØ - Don't Leave (reached #27 which isn't the best but still a great song and better than many others on here)

I don't actually blame them if they are holding some songs back for Now 97...this is out in April, then it's only three months until Now 97 will be out in July, just about enough time for the UK to have about 25 genuine hit singles :lol:

I do agree that the spring releases are often pretty underwhelming compared to the summer release, which is often packed with big feelgood hits, and the winter release which is full of big Q4 smashes. On the spring edition it seems to be a lot of forgotten Xmas leftovers and midtable hits from early in the year. 2006's Now 63 was a particular abortion, possibly the worst ever Now for me.

Actually, now Steps are on their own record label, they may have even vetoed their inclusion themselves (if they were even asked). Scared of the Dark will be a big album selling point for them, and their album comes out a couple of weeks after Now 96.

It outpeaked "Cruel" and had more chart life so it shouldn't have been omitted. And "Fake Love" has been out for ages

Wow I didn't even realise. Fake Love was released wayyy back in October :o

It's also nice to see Zedd finally on a Now! album as a main artist though after Stay the Night, I Want You To Know, and arguably even Clarity missed out :D

They should cut it back to just 2 a year now, especially as they have so many spin offs (enough to have a "Now That's What I Call Music" CHART in HMV - Yes, seriously :lol:)

I reckon one in May, to capitalise on the Summer/good weather - we usually get sunshine in May and then the other in November, for Christmas sales etc...

Are the Summer and Winter Nows stronger sellers than the Spring ones?

Actually, I have a feeling the spring ones usually sell better than the summer ones for some reason that I've never been sure of (easter gifts? Do people buy CDs for easter? :lol:)

Gosh that tracklist really highlights what an awful time it is for chart music.

Also, I thought that 'Hypnotised' wasn't a single?

My noteworthy omissions (in chart peaking order) are;

Ed Sheeran – Shape Of You {1}

Drake feat. Rihanna – Too Good {3}

Matt Terry – When Christmas Comes Around {3}

The Chainsmokers & Coldplay – Something Just Like This {4}

Zayn & Taylor Swift – I Don't Wanna Live Forever {5}

Drake – Fake Love {10}

Take That – Giants {13}

The Chainsmokers feat. Phoebe Ryan – All We Know {24}

Maroon 5 feat. Future – Cold {24}

Olly Murs – Grow Up {25}

Snakehips feat. MØ – Don't Leave {27}

Nathan Sykes – Famous {28}

Kideko & George Kwali feat. Nadia Rose & Sweetie Irie – Crank It (Woah!) {30}

J Cole – Deja Vu {30}

Migos feat. Lil Uzi Vert – Bad And Boujee {30}

James Arthur – Safe Inside {31}

The xx – On Hold {34}

Steps – Scared Of The Dark {34}

Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall – Juju On That Beat {37}

Lady Gaga – Million Reasons {39}

Adele – Water Under The Bridge {39}

Little Mix feat. Machine Gun Kelly – No More Sad Love Songs {39}

Little Mix feat. Charlie Puth – Oops {41}

Louisa Johnson – Best Behaviour {48}

Yet To Chart:

People Just Do Nothing feat. Ed Sheeran – TBC

Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larsson – Symphony

Olly Murs – Years & Years

All those highlighted in green I feel would make a good claim for Now 97 if they continue to do well or repeak. The rest have all missed their chance, and I am especially gutted for Steps. :(

It annoys me when they put 21 tracks on a disc as they blatantly could've fitted another track onto the disc

Edited by Hadji

Perhaps they don't want 50 shades songs on these albums until it has died down as people who only like a particular song from the soundtrack will just pick up the NOW album instead of the soundtrack!
