After a bit of a delay, the title track is OUT. From the abrasive opening that perfectly opens the album, the song takes a wild turn exploring all of the things that hold back the defiant Madonna in the American Life she inhabits. She sings of the shallowness of the world around her, the modern America and the way it is run. It wasn't a critical success, being totally panned by some music critics but I find that it has aged very well and still seems very relevant and poignant. It also contains the iconic rap in the middle-8 which of course makes it an ICONIC moment of M's career.

'Nothing Fails' to win this, and it'd be a worthy winner!

'Intervention' to win for me so voting 'Nothing Fails'. I am happy with both though - NF used to be my favourite on the album, it's just Intervention overtook it recently. A very strong final <3

The right top 2, but Intervention is my all time fave Madge song.

Unusual for a survivor final not to have any singles but I can't argue at all with that Top 2. The instrumentals to both are perhaps among her very best - both stripped back enough to let Madonna's vocals do the talking, but are present enough to really move you. I'd so love for her to return to this sort of sound.
