November 17, 20168 yr Ah, I love pretty much all of these :'( I kinda agree with This Town which is a bit dull although I don't hate it. Also agree TMG isn't half as good as the previous two singles but I still liked it a fair bit, it just took me lots of listens to get properly into it. Hoping for some real bad stuff soon ! Edited November 17, 20168 yr by Josh.
November 18, 20168 yr Author H8TE CH4RT 2OI6 #07. 5 Seconds Of Summer - Girls Talk Boys Oh Fivesos, how great it is to see you here again. Well, not really. Fortunately it was the only thing we heard from them all year but still, it's bad. The Ghostbusters remake was definitely something that caused a fair bit of controversy this year, which I won't go into. All I'll say is based on the trailer it's not something I wanted to see, and I don't care for the original film either. What was undeniably awful about it though was Fall Out Boy's take on the theme, and then of course this song. The whole thing just sounds like it's trying to be DNCE, which isn't a good thing at all. Plus when the concept of the song literally is 'what do you tell your friends behind my back?', it's quite difficult to make something like that work, especially when the lyrics come across as so egotistical. Also, the chorus is annoyingly catchy and has no substance, and I personally can't stand the guy's voice.
November 18, 20168 yr Author H8TE CH4RT 2OI6 #06. One Direction - History One Direction are finally over, but that doesn't stop them from having one last shot at the Hate Chart. In the closing weeks of last year they released 'History' as a single with an X Factor launch and it became their biggest hit of the era. At least now they're on hiatus but expect Harry Styles in next year's hate chart when he releases something (thankfully we were spared from that this year). So what is so bad about 'History'? Firstly the production is really uninteresting, with it being an acoustic-guitar driven song. Which could work if the lyrics were well-written and there was a good singer I guess, but neither of those are the case here. It all just seems a desperate attempt to cash in on the "omgz don't leeve us 1d cry.emoji!!1" crowd (as it was their final single) and I'm not sold.
November 18, 20168 yr This Town [5.0] (Meh! Though it was quite shocking to see it claim the highest jump from No. 100 (100 to 9), beating Keane's Somewhere Only We Know (100 to 26, in 2013 because of a John Lewis advert using Lily Allen's cover) Toothbrush [5.5] [CBTO was quite a guilty pleasure for me since it got played at my prom, but this one not so much] That's My Girl [??] Girls Talk Boys [6.5] (5SOS are not my cup of tea, but this is quite funky) History [5.5] Edited November 22, 20168 yr by DalekTurret32
November 22, 20168 yr Author H8TE CH4RT 2OI6 #05. Charlie Poof - One Call Away I was never a fan of Charlie Puth. 'See You Again' was really boring and overexposed, 'Marvin Gaye' was dull and lyrically poor, but what came next really cemented my dislike for him. 'One Call Away' may have some of the worst lyrics ever - 'I'll be there to save the day/superman got nothing on me' erm no thank u, even the Superman franchise is still a lot better than listening to a Charlie Puth song, and the Batman V Superman film isn't something I plan on watching ever. To add to that his voice is seriously whiny ('We Don't Talk Anymore' could have actually been a good song if he wasn't on it) and the song is just so dull. Nothing interesting about the production. Nothing interesting in anything, Charlie Puth really is the definition of bland male pop singer and it's beyond me how he's sustained a career beyond his SYA feature.
November 22, 20168 yr Author Just don't read what's at number one, or you'll hate me forever :heehee:
November 22, 20168 yr Adore That's My Girl and One Call Away, both two of my favourites this year! <3 Also find Girls Talk Boys to be one of 5SOS' best tracks! The rest I certainly agree with though, all horrendous!
November 22, 20168 yr I like See You Again. Marvin Gaye I liked at the time it got to number one, but then my personal rating got lowered down to a "meh" months afterwards. One Call Away (song featured on hatechart): 5.0 (Meh) We Don't Talk Anymore, kinda dislike [4.5] Dangerously [haven't listened to]
November 24, 20168 yr Author H8TE CH4RT 2OI6 #04. DUNCE - Cake By The Ocean For the first few listens of this, I didn't think it was that bad. Not something I was ever going to really get into, but not awful either. Soon I had made up my mind about it and I was really disliking the song. It's just really annoying and the lyrics are awful. Additionally the overexposure this had this year killed it even further. It's about as needlessly catchy as the flu and definitely something I never want to hear again ever. Especially his falsetto voice and the shouty bit, which is the entire chorus basically. Eurgh.
November 24, 20168 yr Author H8TE CH4RT 2OI6 #03. Meghan Trainor - Me Too If I was Meghan Trainor, I'd want to be me too. No but seriously, who in the world thought this was a good idea of a song? Let's start with the production, which is laughably awful. And this is from the producer (Ricky Reed) that made Jason Derulo's 'Talk Dirty' and 'Wiggle' both of which I liked, so what happened to him? Researching him, it seems he also produced 5SOS 'Girls Talk Boys', so that's two terrible songs he's done this year. It really is such a poor attempt at revitalising the electro-pop sound and sounds like something that should be coming from a Pixie Lott budget comeback, rather than a huge worldwide popstar. FORTUNATELY the UK saw sense with this one and it got no higher than #84 in the charts, but it was a US Billboard top 20 hit. Anyway, onto the vocal and lyrics, which are even worse than the production. It doesn't sound like the self-empowerment anthem it's trying to sell itself as, but more of a "I'm so wonderful look at me" anthem. Some people can pull that off, Kanye has based his whole career on selling his own greatness and he's brilliant, but it just doesn't work coming from Meghan - especially when the delivery of the lyrics are extremely annoying. We have two contenders for the Hatechart #01, and both are by the same artist. What will it be? :o
November 24, 20168 yr Cake By The Ocean [7.0] (Guilty pleasure for me. Didn't like it at first, but I quite enjoyed it when, as I said before when airing my thoughts on Toothbrush, it got played at my prom) Me Too [6.0]
November 24, 20168 yr Coming from a Meghan Trainor fan (loved everything but AATB and this so far), Me Too really is rather dreadful. Like you said the production is terrible, sounds so cheap and messy. Then she just comes across like an utter idiot in the lyrics, glad it did hardly anything in the charts here, sad the US didn't see sense.
November 24, 20168 yr Author I can now reveal that the top two are 'Stitches' and 'Treat You Better' by Shawn Mendes, but which one is at #1? :o keep scrolling :o it's BOTH OF THEM :mansoncheer: ~ H8TE CH4RT 2OI6 #01. Shawn Mendes - 'Stitches' and 'Treat You Better' Urgh where do I start with this??? 'Stitches' started creeping up the chart about this time last year, and eventually hit UK #1 in Jan/Feb to my disappointment. His voice for one is annoying to listen to, although the SeeB remix is bearable and even made my personal chart top 50 for a week. Combined with dull production and with it being an acoustic guitar driven song, all that can sell the original song is his voice and lyrics - and neither are impressive. It's aimed too much at the pre-teen market for me to get into, I know some people here really enjoy it but to me it just feels like another generic cliche heartbreak song. Also the way he sings in the chorus, it is so annoying and painful to listen to - someone tell him to stop trying to hit the high notes. It was seriously overexposed, and if it couldn't get any worse, we had to put up with the song all over again with 'Treat You Better'. The similarities between the two stand out so much that I can't actually decide which song is objectively more awful, which is why both make the #1 on this hate chart. They're both in the same key, both have the same acoustic guitar and drumbeat, and the subject matter of the lyrics is also very similar (if anything, the lyrics on 'Treat You Better' are even worse, but the production is slightly better). It makes me wonder will we actually have a Shawn Mendes hit song where he's happy??? I'm sure there's one somewhere but it hasn't been released as a single yet. Although I'd rather if we just stop letting him have hits, that would be brilliant. And let's not forget BADDER DAN ECAN. Dan Ecan OUT. Hate over for another year. Until Donald Trump does something really stupid as President, it's only a matter of time. FULL CHART =01 Shawn Mendes - Stitches =01 Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better 03 Meghan Trainor - Me Too 04 DNCE - Cake By The Ocean 05 Charlie Puth - One Call Away 06 One Direction - History 07 5 Seconds Of Summer - Girls Talk Boys 08 Fifth Harmony - That’s My Girl 09 DNCE - Toothbrush 10 Niall Horan - This Town
November 24, 20168 yr While there's some i disagree with (Dangerous Woman & Cake By the Ocean ftw!), i have to say a big fat YES at Treat You Better getting the co-#1 :D
November 24, 20168 yr Stitches [6.0] (Kind of a guilty pleasure for me) Treat You Better [5.5] (Don't have anything to say about this. I thought the rhythm of the phrases of the beginning of this track reminded me of the rhythm of the beginning of Don't Let Me Down by The Chainsmokers) I enjoyed your hatechart!
November 24, 20168 yr Joseph abuse ha power and raise Adan's warning level (For "Stitches" obv, idk why but I couldn't seem to get into TYB as much as most of his other songs)
