Hi Sam, thank you for all the comments!

79. I honestly didn't expect it to become such a hit but I'm definitely not complaining! Such a fantastic song

91. We definitely agree on the best two Iggy songs, think we're the only two Trouble stans on the site :(

95. I totally agree!!

98. It's a shame, it didn't hold up in my affections at all :( nice song but wasn't really worthy of that week at #1!

103. Oh wow :o It's probably my least fave of the four Revival singles but I love them all, all four are among her very best for me!

107. Definitely wins performance of the year for me, so beautiful and heart-wrenching

139. It should've been a huge winter smash, huge missed opportunity :( think I'm ready for her next era now instead tbh!

69 M.O - Who Do You Think Of? - 6-8-13-21-31-X-36-25-17-23-31-X (10 non-consecutive weeks)

70 5 Seconds of Summer - Girls Talk Boys - 10-2-5-9-16-21-30-X (7 weeks)

5 Seconds of Summer are probably the most notable artist in my chart to have never achieved a number one single so far, their peak being #2 with Amnesia in 2014. All of their singles bar one, however, made my top 10, the one exception being Hey Everybody! which I never fully got into and it only got to #20. Girls Talk Boys was sadly cursed by the #2 spot as well when it got released on one of the most competitive weeks of the year, and it lost out to Britney's Make Me..., which in all fairness, is still to come in the countdown, so the right song won! Girls Talk Boys is fantastic anyway, a great fun single for the Ghostbusters soundtrack, and it's a shame it never blossomed into more of a hit officially.

Surprising us all and finally achieving their breakthrough hit this year was British girl group M.O. Their previous attempts at grabbing a hit never worked out, but all it took was this absolute gem of a song to finally give them not just their first top 40, but their first top 20 hit! Who Do You Think Of? had me on first listen, and it went straight in at #6 in my chart, giving them their first top 10 hit. 2016 has been a fantastic year for girl groups in general, and another one pops up at #66, courtesy of All Saints. This Is a War was the second single from the Red Flag album, and with its fantastic harmonies and on point production, it became a fave of mine quickly. It's their second highest track in the countdown, only One Strike is left!

I briefly considered sending Benjamin Ingrosso's Fall in Love to BJSC, it's one of the many songs I ended up discarding over the year (I believe this one was in favour of In My Mind by Maty Noyes, still to come). It's a great pop song nonetheless and became one of a handful of songs to debut at #1, sneaking a week in-between two weeks for Shawn Mendes' Treat You Better. Sadly it had a quick descent from the #1 spot but I revisit it a lot these days so it would no doubt have big "trickle sales" (if I had such a thing in my chart). I also considered Back On the Wall by Greyson Chance, and was in fact lining it up for the 8th contest of the year before it was stolen out of my thread by someone else, naming no names ^_^ I claim it as an entry of mine anyway :kink: seriously though, it's lower than all of my entries from 2016 so perhaps it's not a bad thing that I didn't end up sending it! It's Greyson's best song in years, a really mature sound and a catchy chorus as well.

The Greyson song was a bit of a slow-burner, peaking on its second run in the top 40, months after its debut! Christopher & Matoma's Take Me Back had a similar fate - I remember downloading it the day before I went on holiday in August, and it didn't take off until October in my chart, when I revisited it due to The Vamps' Matoma collaboration. It's a really joyful little dance song, and Christopher's best song to date for me, meaning he has no more songs to appear in my EOY. Matoma however has one more, the aforementioned All Night! Charlie Puth also has one more song left now, as Dangerously has dropped out at #64. It became his second highest-peaking single earlier this year when it got to #5, after initially making it to #38 after the album's release. He still has #1 hit We Don't Talk Anymore to come!

Tom Odell's had a great year in my chart as we've seen already, but away from the Wrong Crowd album, he delivered a nice cover of Cyndi Lauper's True Colours for a TV ad. Whilst it's not as good as his other advert cover (Real Love), it's still a great listen and gave him his sixth top 3 hit. Just above it is Lukas Graham's monster hit 7 Years, a track I discovered a month or so before it started to take off in the UK, and I always thought it had the potential to be a huge hit. It's divided opinion on the forum but I'm definitely in team love  I got a bit bored of it when it had spent ages in the chart but now I've had a break from it, I'm definitely enjoying it again! Finally, Dua Lipa's Hotter Than Hell is her second highest appearance in this chart. It was her highest peaking track when it debuted at #4 on a pretty competitive week, and it held up very well notching up 10 weeks on the chart in total, although it's been outdone since by her follow-up, still to come...

Recommendation

Who Do You Think Of - This is the first song I heard from them properly and it's very good. It was nice to see it done well in the official charts.

7 Years - I'm pretty in the middle with this one. I liked it for a few weeks but then it got a little dull. Nice to listen too now since I've hardly heard it in ages.

Hotter Than Hell - The follow-up was so much better.

60 Shawn Hook - Sound of Your Heart - 7-7-10-14-18-21-28-36-X (8 weeks)

Last year, the lowest of all my BJSC entries ended up down at #133 in my EOY, and the year before, it was #104. This year, there's a massive leap up, as the lowest of my own entries is at a pretty great #60! Shawn Hook's Sound of Your Heart was my fourth entry this year, and whilst it's the only one of my 2016 entries not to make my top 5, I've got a lot of love for it still. It has a really catchy chorus but also has plenty of emotion, and I love the way it builds throughout, plus it scored me my second best result of the year so no complaints! It's actually joined by two other entries of mine in this section (they're like buses obviously). Catey Shaw's The Ransom is a pretty weak song on its own, and I'm really not fussed with any of her other songs, but it's unbelievable how much of a difference the Tommy Walker Remix makes to the quality of the track. The vocals are elevated and the dance drop is superb, one of my favourites of the year. A really strong track and probably should've been a #1 really, it got blocked by Mollie King's Back to You and Britney's Do You Wanna Come Over?, both of which finish lower in this EOY!

I also sent The Ready Set's Good Enough in the second contest of the year, marking my second time sending him after I sent Freakin' Me Out last year. Good Enough did even better in the contest, and in my chart too, where it peaked at #1 compared to Freakin' Me Out's #5. The song is a change in sound for The Ready Set, moving towards a more dance-pop sound inspired by Justin Bieber's What Do You Mean?, and it works pretty well for him I'd say, although this was by far the best song on the album. Also on the topic of BJSC, Frenship & Emily Warren's Capsize was sent by Liam earlier in the year, and it pretty much passed me by in the contest. I checked it out again when it was doing well on Spotify, with absolutely NO recollection of hearing it before, and I really liked it! It's the highest of anyone else's entries in my EOY chart. Emily's vocals in the chorus are the best part for me, really elevates the song and contrasts really nicely with the singer of Frenship.

Away from BJSC, Emeli Sandé made her return to the charts this year, leading the way with Hurts. I was convinced it would be a big hit, but after a strong opening week, it basically fizzled out :( A huge shame, because for me, it's her best track to date. It's passionate, full of attitude and it's totally different for Emeli. Sadly her album was not this strong and I much prefer her debut but nonetheless, I'm glad we got this track! Selena Gomez also had a strong year, with Hands to Myself becoming the biggest hit from her Revival era. It became the third top 10 of the era earlier this year in my chart, following #2 hit Good For You and #10 hit Same Old Love, and ended up notching up a very good 12 weeks on my chart. It's Selena's highest appearance as a lead artist but she has one more song as a feature still to come!

The Vamps have had another good year in my chart, achieving three further #1s to add to their previous six. Two of those #1s appear here (the third, All Night, will be much later on). Rest Your Love is quite possibly the biggest misfire of their discography so far, considering it was released without their usual physicals and subsequently became the first single of theirs to miss not just the top 40, but the entire top 200. It's a great track but I'd personally have left it as an album track and released the superior Volcano instead - that's still to come in fact. I Found a Girl followed up RYL and managed a better peak of #30 with a new version featuring Omi and three physicals. Sadly it didn't manage much longevity though and plummeted out of the top 40 the week after. Thank god for All Night performing much better for them, eh! Nevertheless, it topped my chart for a couple of weeks, boosted by seeing them live on the day it came out.

The final two songs come from other pop groups. 5 Seconds of Summer make their final appearance at #58 with Jet Black Heart, a track which made barely any impact upon its single release in the chart but I'm just more glad it actually did get a push, it's way too good to stay as an album track. It managed to outpeak its predecessor Hey Everybody! by 11 places in my chart too so pretty good going as far as I'm concerned. Finally, Little Mix make their first appearance of FOUR in my top 60! Hair was never my favourite album track, I found it a bit annoying at first in fact. When it was announced as a single with extra Sean Paul, I was open to being surprised and I really was. Alongside the music video too, the song grew on me massively and peaked at #2 in my chart, blocked by Tom Odell's Magnetised which was out the same week.

And that's the end of the final section of 10! I'll be moving in 5s for the next few sections as we get closer and closer to the top :D

47 Kygo - Stay (feat. Maty Noyes) - 36-27-38-X-4-10-17-22-28-38-X (9 non-consecutive weeks)

48 Isac Elliot - Worth Something - 36-5-11-21-23-33-X-9-6-8-12-22-33-39-X (13 non-consecutive weeks)

49 Delta Goodrem - Dear Life - 10-3-1-3-7-9-11-16-21-23-30-34-38-X (13 weeks)

50 The Vamps - Volcano (feat. Silentó) - 12-9-5-8-10-11-22-30-X-37-21-30-X (11 non-consecutive weeks)

As promised, The Vamps appear again now, this time with album track Volcano! It's my favourite track from the Wake Up album and a surefire smash hit in my eyes, quite why they didn't release it is beyond me and still feels like a stupid decision. I can understand releasing Wake Up first, it's a pretty safe, radio friendly track, and with a better release strategy I think it could've hung around slightly better. Volcano should've followed, with a great video, physical releases as normal, and a place on all the main Spotify playlists. But no, it remains an album track. Such a shame. Silentó actually ADDS to the song too, proving he's actually pretty good as a feature. Let's all forget Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae) ever existed.

Delta Goodrem's always been a huge force in my charts, with a huge EIGHT #1s to her name, and 2016 is responsible for two of those. Dear Life came first, initially charting at #10 just on a low quality radio rip, and jumping to #1 when the full quality version was released. The track is classic Delta, a reflective track with excellent songwriting, and a good contrast sonically from previous hit Wings. It's not her very best song and its follow-up Enough has finished higher, but nevertheless, it's a solid track and is Delta at what she does best - a powerful, emotional track, complete with strings for good measure!

Another BJSC entry of mine now! Isac Elliot first charted in 2013 with his debut single New Way Home, which made #3. He's since outpeaked that with 2014's Just Can't Let Her Go, and achieved three other top 10 hits before Worth Something made #5 earlier this year. It saw something of a revival when Isac's A Little More EP got released too, spending a further three weeks in my top 10! Sadly it was my worst performing BJSC entry of the year, not coming even close to making the final, but hey, what can you do? It's a fantastic song anyway, if you're a fan of Justin Bieber's recent output then this will be right up your street!

Kygo had a great year in 2015, with his breakthrough hit Firestone reaching #2 in my chart, blocked only by featured vocalist Conrad Sewell's own track Hold Me Up. It also managed a very good #15 EOY! He never reached anywhere near those heights with the three tracks that followed, but Stay managed to break the trend and gave Kygo his second top 10 hit, and Maty Noyes her first. Maty's vocals complement the top notch production really well, and it's most definitely a track that's stood the test of time for me, finishing higher than that chart run may suggest. Maty still has her solo track In My Mind to feature, where will it be?

MWAH. Dua Lipa had already perked my interest with the fantastic Be the One and Hotter Than Hell (I was less enthused by Last Dance), so I was pretty hyped for Blow Your Mind (Mwah) when it got released, and when I listened, it was instant LOVE. It was the most personality she'd shown in any track to date, and incredibly catchy. I was sure it would give her a big hit after Hotter Than Hell, but sadly it never really got going :( It became a #2 hit in my chart though, her highest peak to date!

Recommendation

Hair is so fun

I like The Vamps but I prefer them in other ways (although I like more the main singer because of his cuteness  )

Hi Joseph

The Revival era altogether has been so good for Selena I think, so glad she just kept getting smash after smash in the US at least, a shame she isn't a bigger star this side of the pond though although she still did good. Hands to Myself is one of the best tracks of her career I think, in my top three with THWWIW and GFY

I wasn't huge on 5SOS this era and quite a bit of their tracks disappointed me this time round but JBL was a great little track actually, shame it never picked up properly in the charts because I'd have loved that to be a hit. Don't Stop remains their best track though (and video, so much fun!!).

:D

hey Joseph! :D

Awesome to see The Ransom here, that was definitely one of my faves from BJSC 89, and high praise indeed considering 89 was by far and away my favourite contest of the year in terms of song quality.

Blow Your Mind (Mwah!) and Stay are my favourites from your recent batch, the latter deserved to be a larger hit, I hope Maty Noyes can have a big year next year (maybe it's not too late for In My Mind to get a push? :o)

Happy New Year! ^_^

Hurts - The best Emeli song ever.

Hands To Myself - Love the video to this. And of course the 'I mean I could but why would I want to' line is iconic.

Hair - It wasn't until the Sean Paul version was released that I started to like this too.

Stay - Good from Kygo but it doesn't hold up for me.

Blow Your Mind (Mwah) - Such an amazing single. I think it has a cool video and this really should have done better in the charts.

Blow Your Mind (Mwah) is probaly one of the most catchiest songs of the year  Especially the MWAH bits

Stay is for sure the second best Kygo song after Firestone

WHY WASNT VOLCANO A SINGLE :nono:
