December 20, 20168 yr Author 160. Anne-Marie - Do It Right LOVE MONTH - MARCH - I was a real fan at this near the start of the year, was also pretty sure it'd do something in the charts so it was a shame to see this not even make the iTunes top 30, let alone the official top 40. I preferred this to the follow-up Alarm by far, it deserved to do better than the afforementioned would go on to do! :( 159. Glasperlenspiel - Geiles Leben LOVE MONTH - APRIL - The first song totally in foreign, I think I saw Dan chart this (maybe my mind is playing tricks on me, idk?), but regardless this is still a massive tune, there were so many good German speaking songs this year, this is the first of two to feature in my countdown. I'd listened to a far bit of Glasperlenspiel previous to this track, some of their other songs are great little electro-pop numbers. Definitely a duo I'll be looking out for more in the future  158. The Griswolds - If You Wanna Stay LOVE MONTH - JULY - The Griswolds are a band that I very nearly sent to BJSC! Their other song 16 Years was so close to being sent by me for BJSC 85 (good job I didn't aha.) and I also has this in consideration. I'm pretty sure it would have done decently, maybe a qualifier but I doubt it'd've placed very well in the final. This is a lovely Euphoric indie tune, if you like Parade Of Lights of FMLYBND - you'll love this  LEAVE A COMMENT - What's your opinion on the songs featured above? :D
December 20, 20168 yr Geiles Leben is great :music: so catchy Do It right is good, but I still prefer Alarm. I wonder whether it would have done better had it been released after Alarm though.
December 20, 20168 yr Author Geiles Leben is great :music: so catchy Do It right is good, but I still prefer Alarm. I wonder whether it would have done better had it been released after Alarm though. Yeah, even if it is in a completely different language :heehee: I try and sing along anyway aha. Indeed, it is good, I suppose Alarm was kicked off by Anne-Marie's name power from Do It Right so if it hadn't have been released prior to Alarm, Alarm probably wouldn't have been such a big hit? I'm not sure though, you could be right.
December 20, 20168 yr Author 157. Fais ft Afrojack - Hey LOVE MONTH - APRIL - I love the whistling drop in this - so bloody infectious  This was a relatively unique dance track that I saw in the Spring was making waves in Holland. I gave it a listen and it does scream 'European hit that doesn't cross over' unfortunately, but I enjoyed it a lot anyway and it made my personal chart #1 at the time. Although this is relatively low for a #1, this track is still a banga' 156. AURORA - I Went Too Far (MK Remix) LOVE MONTH - SEPTEMBER - I found this via someone else's chart, it spent something ridiculous like 10 weeks at #1 there. This is the follow up single from AURORA, the girl behind the John Lewis advert last year, and it's far more upbeat and may I add FAR better. The MK remix of this really makes it a nice cheery autumn bop, he sure knows how to make a big tune with female vocals  155. Fitz & The Tantrums - Handclap LOVE MONTH - AUGUST - Here's the first BJSC entry I'm aware of in the countdown, from popchartfreak or Singerpurear. As a lot of you may know, we tend to have a bizarrely similar taste in BJSC entries, I tend to love most of his and vice versa - and this was no buck to the trend. An awesome indie track by the guys who did that Argos advert song that we all know, Spark. This was actually a big hit in America eventually, which was nice to see. December 20, 20168 yr they did the Argos song? :o you learn something new every day. some other great tunes around here too, Geiles Leben was quite high in my chart for a few weeks.
December 20, 20168 yr I Went Too Far is my favourite out of those three, but I like all of them. I think Hey was just a little too fast for me to really enjoy it. Edited December 20, 20168 yr by WiseManFromLeeds
December 20, 20168 yr 'If You Wanna Stay' is fab, a former BJSC potential for me too :o Very catchy but I didn't think it would stand out enough in the contest, oh well.
December 20, 20168 yr yassss at blurryface getting 3rd best album and bastille getting number one spot  and omg love love love the griswolds! i've got one of their songs lined up for the next UP so hopefully nobody submits them before then :kink: also just discovered fitz & the tantrums recently but I've got to say I love roll up much more than handclap. excited to see what else is coming mdh! can't believe we are only figuring out how similar our music tastes are now, would have nominated you for the best music taste BJ award otherwise!
December 21, 20168 yr Do It Right is good but I much prefer Alarm, and Rockabye for that matter! Regardless I think Anne-Marie's one of the most exciting artists around right now, so excited for Breathing Fire when it eventually gets released
December 21, 20168 yr Hiya mdh Sunshine is perfect for summer as you say and the video with all the cute dogs gets me everytime  I wish it was a bigger hit, it sounded massive imo but never got that moment where it shot up in the charts :( I don't know about that particular remix but the original of that Aurora track is great imo. She has a lovely voice and some catchy choruses too so I'm a bit gutted she hasn't caught on after the John Lewis ad exposure, a shame those sleep to be flopping at the moment. Vaults deserves more attention too :( :D
December 22, 20168 yr Author they did the Argos song? :o you learn something new every day. some other great tunes around here too, Geiles Leben was quite high in my chart for a few weeks. Yeah they did, I was surprised by it too, it's good they've been playing it for so long. Ah yes I thought so - good to see you enjoying it! Edited December 22, 20168 yr by christmdhas
December 22, 20168 yr Author I Went Too Far is my favourite out of those three, but I like all of them. I think Hey was just a little too fast for me to really enjoy it. I Went Too Far is sublime  It is a big shame it didn't do enough to hit the mainstream but I was glad it got at least some recognition. Hopefully AURORA continues to go down the remix-able route as she deserves a hit! Hey is a bit quick, I think the fast tempo is what makes me enjoy it so much in places though :heehee:
December 22, 20168 yr Author 'If You Wanna Stay' is fab, a former BJSC potential for me too :o Very catchy but I didn't think it would stand out enough in the contest, oh well. Ooh it is soo lovely, the vocals in the verses especially! I feel as though the song is slightly short to make enough of an impression though, so you're probably right - it wouldn't have done much I guess :(

Both of them are really spectacular albums  Yes  So glad to see that you like them, they deserve more recognition. And ooh, don't give out any more of a spoiler or they won't allow you to enter :heehee: Hyped to see which track you pick because most of theirs are bangers that could do well in UP ^_^ Roll Up is also good, Fitz and the Tantrums are brill in general so it's no surprise you like that  Yay I'm looking forward to the rest of your countdown too ^_^ Unfortunately I didn't nom you for that either, there's always next year though and I shall certainly be nomming you for that and maybe some other awards at this rate :D Thankyou for the detailed comment

Regardless I think Anne-Marie's one of the most exciting artists around right now, so excited for Breathing Fire when it eventually gets released  Really? Alarm was definitely my preference when it was first released but I think its got stale since being a big hit and being hammered by radio. I hope her next single is as good as both though  Breathing Fire sounds like a massive hit and something I'm going to love, really excited for that when the label choose to release it - if they choose to release it that is  Wouldn't surprise me if they just don't bother at this rate lol.

Vaults deserves more attention too :( :D Hey there Josh ^_^ Yeah I love the video, it really improved the song for me, one of the best videos of the year! :D It was a pretty big hit anyway, I don't think we can complain too much tbh ;) Ah I do also like the original, but the remix is by FAR my preference. It is a shame, but at least she didn't flop as much as Vaults have :heehee: I do agree though, Vaults were so much better in All Four Walls tbh :(
December 22, 20168 yr Author 154. The Chainsmokers ft GGFO - Let You Go LOVE MONTH - MARCH - This track briefly hit #1 on my personal chart, its a really underrated jam from the Chainsmokers, featuring indie outfit Great Good Fine Ok, who are massively underrated in themselves. The song has a really different dance drop to most of their other stuff, and the vocals are sing-along and really something special. It was such a shame this has been one of the few tracks to not smash for them! 153. Coldplay ft Beyoncé - Hymn For The Weekend LOVE MONTH - FEBRUARY - Now this one isn't particularly one that has stood the test of time for me but considering I loved it massively back in February I thought it was deserved of a placing in the countdown. :D This is a lovely collaboration, and without a doubt my favourite of this Coldplay era. The great performance at the BRITs swung it for me, they're all so talented and it's nice to see an indie/alternative band get such success in this day and age. 152. NEIKED ft Dyo - Sexual LOVE MONTH - OCTOBER - I first loved this in August where I saw Seven (I think) hyping it up, and I was totally unaware of its hit potential. It was great to see it eventually smash and become such a long runner in the charts - it features the totally different to usual vocals of Dyo, aka Ms D of Wiley fame, who totally MAKES this chorus. I really hope NEIKED isn't a one hit wonder. 151. Lady Gaga - Perfect Illusion LOVE MONTH - SEPTEMBER - Omg for the last time THIS WASN'T A FLOP. She reached #12 in the charts with this, which is a very very impressive placing considering how hard it is to have a new entry in the top 40 these days, let alone as high as #12! This was a really strong comeback after around three years out of the spotlight, the chorus was big and her vocals were infectious, and THAT KEY CHANGE ughugdbsweurhgbf. The Joanne era is my favourite of hers so far  ──────────────────────────────────────────────── COUNTDOWN SO FAR~ 151 Lady Gaga - Perfect Illusion 152 NEIKED ft Dyo - Sexual 153 Coldplay ft Beyoncé - Hymn For The Weekend 154 The Chainsmokers ft GGFO - Let You Go 155 Fitz & The Tantrums - HandClap 156 AURORA - I Went Too Far (MK Remix) 157 Fais ft Afrojack - Hey 158 The Griswolds - If You Wanna Stay 159 Glasperlenspiel - Geiles Leben 160 Anne-Marie - Do It Right 161 TIEKS ft Dan Harkna - Sunshine 162 Hey Violet - Fuqboi 163 C4 - See Me There
December 22, 20168 yr Hymn For the Weekend is nice :D I especially like the pre-chorus part, I find that bit really catchy :D
December 23, 20168 yr Author Hymn For the Weekend is nice :D I especially like the pre-chorus part, I find that bit really catchy :D Yeah, I like the whole song :heehee:
December 23, 20168 yr Hi mdh HFTW has definitely stood the test of time for me, it still sounds really gorgeous but I do love the Beyoncé parts the most, she sounds lovely in it. I can't really split apart that and Adventure of a Lifetime though, both are choons! I liked Perfect Illusion loads for the first couple of weeks but got really bored quite quickly of it. It did kind of flop in relation to her other lead singles which is a shame because it is still a strong track. I do prefer Million Reasons though, shame radio aren't supporting her so much anymore :( Looking forward to more :D
